    Helpful video. I used a NICE 1635 bearing .75 id x 1.75 of x .5" on an Ariens 924028. I've seen some parts say 1.625 OD but I believe that is incorrect

    Awesome breakdown of this potentially annoying task (I am not much of a mechanic!). Thanks for an excellent video!
    My *only* snowblower is an ST824 (bought in 1980) which I just recently discovered has this same problem. The bearing is on its way, so I'll be doing this very soon. This will make it a lot easier. I owe you a beer, man!!

    Easy video to follow. I need to do this to my 1032 and hope the procedure is similar, thanks. 😎

    Never seize that is stiff and seemingly dried out, just add some light engine oil and stir it up with a screwdriver it will become thin and useful again, in fact a little extra oil you can make it into any consistency that works best for your project, such as flange applications that a thick film is not desired. Good execution of that job, you make it look easy, well it is always easier after watching someone else actually do the job.

    It's interesting to see how other folks work and use tools. The new woodruff key should have been lightly sanded on each side to enable it to fit freely, otherwise good job.

    I have a really old Ariens (1966). I got it running about five years ago. Luckily it didn't need too many parts.

    The thing I like most about that Ariens design is it's easy to modify a generic pulley to fit there and you can have an overdrive with very little work. :)
    I put a 50% overdrive on my old blower and it really threw the snow after that, lol.

    I wondered how to put that bearing back into place. I've spent days searching for the answer! Thank you so much!. Mine is incredibly tight, I think i'll sand the auger piece a little.

    Nice work bud. I did a bunch of thees bearings last fall. I find that the drive belt tensioner pivot shaft tends to get all worn out causing the pulley to turn sideways. Ended up welding and re-drilling the pivot hole.

    What were the symptoms that caused you to replace this bearing? I just picked up a used 824 and while everything works, the impeller rattles like crazy when the auger is not engaged. I'm guessing this is the most likely culprit but not certain.

      @@Titliest07 Yes, I did that. I don't think the bearing is bad. However, I wonder if those 2 set screws are loose? I guess I won't know until I split it. Machine is practically new. I purchased it in 2013 but I only use it 6-8 times a year so it has low hours.

    The issue I'm having is the pulley assembly you attached keeps sliding to close to the blower and the belt keeps falling off. I've tried to tighten those two grub screws as best I can but it keeps sliding in. Should I use some washers as spacers to keep it from sliding in?

    • @Titliest07
      @Titliest07  5 років тому

      Never heard of that happening. Maybe the key is bad. Pull it all apart and find out

      @@Titliest07 My key was shot so I had to get a new one. That might be it then. I'm working on a spacer to help keep the mount in place and maybe even drill some notches for the grub nuts in the shaft to keep everything in place. You thoughts?

    • @floobertuber
      @floobertuber 5 років тому

      I've always heard it called an auger bearing, but it IS right behind the impeller, so who knows. I reckon most guys would know what bearing you meant, regardless of which term was used.

    Well, came across this video hopefully I can get an answer on an old video. Tried to replace the bearing on my 824 but the drive hub will not come off. I ended up breaking one of the tabs off that holds one of the three bolts with a 3 jaw puller. So now I've heated it, tapped on it with a socket to try and break it free more pb blaster but having an issue getting back on it. Bout ready to heat it red hot a drive something between the shaft and hub. But before I do that anyone have an idea to best go at this?

    • @Titliest07

      Use Emory cloth and fluid film to clean the shaft. Or just cut the bearing off with a cutting disc

      @@Titliest07 found a 2 jaw gear puller, I'm going to try that if that doesnt do it probably go with and angle grinder. I cant sand the shaft its flush with the bearing, pain in the ass. Damn part is expensive too!
