This is part 4 of an Ariens snowblower crankcase repair. The original crankcase had been leaking oil at the oil seals, so the auger crankcase was rebuilt Disclaimer:

We can get a lot of snow, sometimes a few feet at a time. So we got an Ariens track drive snowblower and it works well. But its so heavy we can't lift it 8 inches to get it on to our deck. So I was browsing craigslist and came upon an ad for this snowblower. The seller's wife told him it had to be gone before she returned from vacation. So he listed it for $10 with this description "Does not run. Needs tuneup and 2 tires." Looked to have been used little so I bought it thinking it was around 15 years old, not from the early 1980s as I have discovered. It started on the third pull and runs great. The seller said a friend gave it to him. Maybe he didn't know to turn the fuel value under the gas tank? Filled the tires with air. Cleaned it up and it looks like new. Removed the old gas and changed the oil so it is now ready for winter deck duty. I will be viewing doublewide6's useful maintenance and repair videos as needed.

Video definitely was not useless, actually it was very helpful and informative. In fact her comment was the only thing useless in the video. If anything she sounds spoiled because she’s not the one shoveling the snow because he’s maintaining his equipment. She doesn’t know how good she has it.

I have oil (brown liquid) appearing in the snow when using my Ariens, I assume it is the crank case leaking, wasn't sure if you've seen something similar, thanks

Figure out where it is leaking from by cleaning it and watching closely. You may be able to get away with just replacing the seals that the shafts run through. Or in a pinch you could probably find a tube of grease (like toothpaste) and heat it up to soften it and squeeze it in. Some units use grease some use gear oil. But the grease won't leak out. Or tear it down and rebuild with new gaskets.

Almost all GL-5 oil has Molybdenum disulfide or some other sulfur compound that will corrode your brass/bronze gear. I see you did this 5 years ago. I wonder how much corrosion damage you have to the brass/bronze gear.

13:18 -- You weren't making "useless videos". You were repairing a snow blower. You would done the same work regardless of whether a camera was present. Add your business's name and address to the ends of the videos, and your "useless videos" become free commercials -- a source of income.
