On reassembly, note that the driving shaft has a bushing at each end of the casing. The bushings have a flat on one side. You must align the flats with the correct side of the casing, or the shaft will bind up tight.
Fantastic video! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. I just bought on like it for $100 with a leaky gearbox.
Very good instructional video ! One of the better ones on youtube. I am having the same problem, mine is leaking from the " drive" shaft. This vid will really help, thank you much.
I have the 24" version. Those gearboxes suck. I used your video as a guide- well done. Note that if your blower is older you will have a hard time getting the impeller off. You might need a shop press. If it leaks again I'll go with 00 grease and not bother replacing the seals again.
Great suggestion on the grease. That’s exactly what I did last year. 👍👍
Came here to see how to dismantle the gear box (which I thought was my problem) until it hit me when you said you needed to remove the shear pin! That was i fact my issue (it was broken). Nevertheless that had me drain and replace the oil anyways.. Thank you!
I am glad it helped. Ready for the snow now👍
A 3/8 bolt with a proper sized washer makes putting on those seals as easy as tightening it down.
7:24 In addition, pack some grease on the back side the seal where the circular spring is. This will help keep the spring in place when you bang on the seal from the front with the hammer during install.
Great idea 👍
polishing the shaft where the seals ride with scotch brite will make the seals last longer.
Hello, how much do you think this procedure would have cost at the fix it shop?
Very informative video, you've got some real skills and patience. I have a small leak, not sure if i need to do that fix yet. How long did the repair take ? I'm worried I might forget some detail about how to put it all back together...
I would just remove the oil and replace it with grease. This will solve all your problems.
Hahaha that tapping at 7:30
My seals aren't leaking, just the gasket around the gearbox. Do i have to replace the seals?
I would just remove the oil and put grease in instead. Works like a charm. No leaking any more.
show me how to replace the ignition coil PLEASE
Do you make house calls for beer?
Nice work, what gear oil did you use
80W 90
I talk to the mechanics and they it is big problem with these gears leaking over and over again.
The following year I ended up putting grease inside and you can screw in a grease nipple also and then you’ll never have to worry about a leak ever again.
Hope it all works for you
What type of gear oil did you use ?
89w 90 gear oil
Leek?
Nice video, but not something I care to repair. Off to the dealer for me.
Is there a particular reason you didn't put a regular gasket on it? Plus wouldn't that be better then gasket maker. Possibly both. Idk
They didn’t have any gaskets available.
Aw I understand. Can't remember if you mentioned that or not but great video very informative. Good day.
@@baddad5781You could always try and make one from gasket material. Pretty tedious work though.
F the POS gearbox, drain the oil and pack it with grease! Not worth your time and aggravation to disassemble when you can put grease in the box.
