  • Miguel is a 26 year old autistic man that is diagnosed with schizophrenia. He refers to his hallucinations as “friends” and struggles to understand that they are not real. Miguel’s biggest hope is that others won’t give up on him while he works to understand his own mind.

What most neurodivergent people (I'm one of them!) really need is actually just a simple clarification. That's why when the interviewer explained that they wanted to understand, he felt like something is finally cleared. So whenever we encounter a neurodivergent person, it's very needed for us to explain our reasoning or intention :) I'm glad that the interviewer understood this. Most of the time, for those who don't know about this, tend to make neurodivergent people uncomfortable in the middle of conversation. But hey, we learn something with an open mind every day.

yes! when he says, “Ohhh, okay!” it melted my heart ♥️ it really did seem like he opened up way more & was more willing to participate & engage in the conversation & explain things. but what hurts is when he talks about his fear of being abandoned & expresses how much of a fight every moment is for him. may God be with him, & i truly pray that he gets at least some moments of rest from the chaos in his head 🙏🏼

Mine, too. God placed us here to perform a work only through him. Each of us have different gifts. This is why one reason anyway, it is so important not to make snap judgments, particularly for the purpose of criticizing someone. There’s more light in the boys and some of the most “heralded“ people in this increasingly darkening backwards world.
But there are lights that God has placed in the world. Ultimately the light is him, & He calls us to be His instruments to build each other up; all for His glory.
We were simply not created to be rejected and that is why it is so very painful, and whatever form & on whatever level it comes in.
I can tell his mother has been through some wearying battles. His sister, too. God bless them all in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Yeah you can tell he is very mentally strong. Fighting those distractions and the fear of being in between two different worlds you can’t tell which one is real must be so exhausting and disorienting. I think many people can’t fathom that reality and would not be able to keep it together and use coping skills so well like this. Chris, your interview skills are absolutely phenomenal. You have a real talent to interview people tactfully and with a genuine connection to their feelings and state of being. This was brilliant to watch and I feel like I learn each and every time how to show people how valued they are when they do not necessarily communicate or function as I do. Thank you for teaching the world how to love people better.
