I love how your art really gives me an idea of your interests and passion. Your advice was simple yet very helpful. Thank you so much ☺️.
Listening to your journey really reassured me that I'm doing the right thing. Just like you, I always loved art and wanted to be an artist. And my mom was fine with that until I got to highschool and she realized I *actually* to go into art and that it wasn't just a little kid's dream. She convinced me that I was too smart to not go into a STEM field (engineering), that artists are doomed to poverty, and that I would start enjoying engineering because I would be good at it. In my senior year, I did a dual enrollment program at a community college where I took the first year courses required for an engineering associate's and I did the worst I've ever done in school for a variety of reasons. But I think the biggest reason was that my heart wasn't in it. Even so, I kept telling myself "just a couple more years," "you'll make lots of money," "you like math, so you'll like engineering." It wasn't until recently, when I had the worst suicidal thoughts I've ever had that I realized *something* had to change. I felt that I had nothing to look forward to in life and that I would never be happy. But then I remembered... I'm an artist. And as soon as I entertained the idea of dropping everything I was doing and going back to art, I started feeling a prickle of hope again. And I want to chase that feeling to wherever it will take me. And if that's a dumb decision, so be it. I'm tired of feeling apathetic about my life. I'm terrified and ecstatic at the same time. I'm not sure what I should do next, but I think that art school is probably a good place to start. I didn't mean to share my whole life story, but I saw a lot of myself in you and that felt so comforting. Thank you.
It's been three months, I hope u r doing well. I was so happy reading this. Because I'm in the initial stage of this story of yours. I don't know what's awaiting me. I'm afraid. But I hv hope.

Gurl, this video is singlehandedly the reason I got into RISD. I was in a similar spot as you - halfway through high school with nothing to show for it art-wise. But knowing someone else was in a similar spot yet still managed to get there was really inspiring !! So thanks so much for making this video
I’m a senior currently creating my portfolio to submit to various different art schools, I was feeling very unmotivated and unsure of the strength of my skill compared to others my age. However I fail to realize the beauty and creativity that comes with genuine enjoyment of creation rather than photo realism. Seeing this portfolio full of gorgeous abstract pieces helped me tons.
I have to say, I am going through almost the same exact thing you went through. I suddenly fell in love with art again during my sophomore year, but I had done so much for academics and other areas that I felt obliged to not completely switch what I want to do. I want to start saying thank you. This video was SO inspiring. I’m aiming to pursuit a master degree in Fine Art since art has always been something important on my life but never something that o believed I could do. My graduation is fairly unrelated to art so I’m scared of not been “good enough” to enter the school that I want. Thank you for doing this, I’m sure many others are inspired by that like me 💖
Omg I have never related more to someone. I also got into RISD but for the year of 2021 and I also dropped everything I was doing Junior year of highschool in order to pursue my art. I had been doing the IB program for three years at that point and I dropped it. Similar to what you said everyone advised against it but I knew what was right for me. Also, I went through a really traumatic mental breakdown between 8th grade to 10th grade and it was hell to get through. I didn't enjoy art for so long and I lost myself in the process. There are still remnants that effect me to this day. I am really happy to see that I am not the only one that experienced this journey!! Thank you for this!

That is easily one of the most interesting and inspiring portfolio i've seen in a while. Love your use of colour. I'm amazed by the way you did your assignment.
This video was so motivating for me. The story you told in the beginning of the video is exactly what I’m going through, like to a T. I got in touch with my art side during the lockdown without knowing how to draw a straight line on my screen and a year later I’m working on 3D designs and animations. Visual arts is my safe place where I can create and in creating is my self identify so it feels SO GREAT omg I’m ranting rn but I just wanted to leave a comment 🥺💞 you’re precious thank you got sharing, was initially going to skip to the time stamps but girl thank you, love your video editing and everything!!! 💞💞💞

I am so glad you are finding a balance between your medical career and creative endeavors. Everything you have been doing sounds amazing! Omg, I litterly watch porfolio videos, because after highschool I want to apply to Art University, but I haven't gone to any art schools ect. Altho some say that Im skillful in art, thats not enough, I applied to some courses that that University organizes, but still I was scared how can I make my pirfolio in 2 years and make it stand out between all those pro artist kids who have been drawing from an early age. You gave me hope, thank you really much!
At first i was surprised that ur video already have ads considering ur channel only have almost 400 subs. And then i was hooked by how u tell ur story on the artworld. So inspiring for me, by the way, i am a very very very late bloomer in art(i'm an accounting graduate and also had religious education, i don't have any art school education, already 61 yrs old, i love art but experienced much procrastination). Thank you so much for this video, now i know why youtube decided to put ads on this inspite of 300+ subs. I definitely subscribed on your channel, again thank u for the inspirations. 😊👍 (I am not sure if I'm your 399th or 400th subscriber bec. when i viewed this video i checked that ur channel has 398subs but with ads at the start of the vid already)
I thought I still had two weeks for my portfolio so I had time to do like one or two more paintings... But I have to hand it in tomorrow. I literally have no time :') and i technically have enough time to paint at least one thing but I'm just so blocked rn I can't even create a single thing rn because I'm so nervous
Hey, I think I had similar experience, I used to love art until I got into highschool. I was really pre occupied into school organizations, school works and others that I made very little progress on my art (I did made art but most of them are a collaboration project I directed). Now I really want to get into art school to persue product design but barely had and art suppliment to submit this december. Should I rush making my art porto or just not submit any?
hello, thanks for great informative video. i just want to ask a few questions: 1. How did you come up with these ideas, where did you take inspiration from? 2. what we need in a good portfolio? 3. can i prepare portfolios in 3 months for foundation programs, what are your recommendations for applying foundation programms? 4. Can we also show them our works that we did in our sketchbooks? should i go over the requirements when it comes to number of portfolios? should i submit as much as i want if they are so beautiful? Thanks in advance...
Do you think colleges look for someone who knows what they have planned for each page of their sketchbook because that is definitely not me also how do you take your photos of your art
i think sketchbooks definitely do not have to be planned but are meant for more informal experimentation, and honestly an iphone takes great quality photos! just have good, natural lighting if possible. some basic photoshop can also come in handy but it’s not necessary - hope this helps!
your portfolio is amazing, but I still want to ask that it seems that you draw most of your illustrations on procreate. Is it okay to draw on pad instead of real paper for RISD application?
from what I've seen, RISD likes to see a lot of different mediums. You can probably put digital art in your portfolio, but don't just do one thing. I would try to contact someone at RISD or look at their website to make sure.

I relate so much to you, except that I’ve chosen my major and am currently in med school, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I definitely enjoy it but I don’t think I was given this life for ONE THING, I can’t be my degree or my job I’m more than that, and I’m still on that self discovery path this video touched me in ways I can’t explain. 💞💞💞
Jessica - thank you so much for such a kind and insightful message. I totally agree that our lives are so abundant with various avenues and experiences that fulfill us in different ways! I am so glad you are finding a balance between your medical career and creative endeavors. Everything you have been doing sounds amazing! Lately I have been enjoying studying lots of non-artistic subjects while pursuing art because the world is too vast for us to limit ourselves to a single thing. Best wishes in everything you do! 🙌🏼💕
@@aerthnaut that’s true and that’s so nice to hearrr omg, best wishes in everything you do too!!! Love your artwork, love your editing you are literally perfection! thank you and I hope for the best in everything you do too!!! 💞✨

thank you for uploading, love your portfolio!! your art is really inspiring, do you think you'll use youtube for more process/art videos in the future? i'd love to see it!
thank you i really appreciate the support! i am definitely considering making more videos but for now i am more active on my instagram account where i post illustrations and such ☺️👍🏼
Omg, I litterly watch porfolio videos, because after highschool I want to apply to Art University, but I haven't gone to any art schools ect.
(I am not sure if I'm your 399th or 400th subscriber bec. when i viewed this video i checked that ur channel has 398subs but with ads at the start of the vid already)
Awwww I love this
aaahh thanks girl 🥺💜
Just started working on my portfolio the other day, so nervous

I plan on studying architecture and this video has really given me inspiration for my portfolio, I love your art style and aesthetic!
thanks so much jasmine! i actually have a friend in architecture. good luck with everything :)
I thought I still had two weeks for my portfolio so I had time to do like one or two more paintings... But I have to hand it in tomorrow. I literally have no time :') and i technically have enough time to paint at least one thing but I'm just so blocked rn I can't even create a single thing rn because I'm so nervous
i hope everything went well ♡
Wow this is amazing!
brainstorm is wonderful
Hey, I think I had similar experience, I used to love art until I got into highschool. I was really pre occupied into school organizations, school works and others that I made very little progress on my art (I did made art but most of them are a collaboration project I directed). Now I really want to get into art school to persue product design but barely had and art suppliment to submit this december. Should I rush making my art porto or just not submit any?
I love this video thank u
glad you enjoyed :))

AAAHH thank you for always hyping me up 😆😆🙌🏼💜
20k viewss as she SHOULD👏🏼
hello, thanks for great informative video. i just want to ask a few questions:
Thanks in advance...
as a young artist, thank you.
💜💜💜
I'm about to enter this school ( 8ty year) and I'm trying to get a scholarship 😣😣 hope I get it
ooh so exciting! best wishes :)
I loved your video
I would try to contact someone at RISD or look at their website to make sure.
i’ve never related more
