I’m no longer applying to college I got into SVA and I’m currently a student there but I like looking at peoples portfolio work anyway just for art inspo (I think of it along the same lines as sketchbook videos.)
Just wanted to say your art and range of styles is amazing keep up the good work.
Also wanted to add it’s kind bittersweet to hear you recommend scholastic art and writing awards bc in highschool almost ever year of high school I submitted multiple pieces yearly to the scholastic art awards and got rejected each and every time. No matter what I drew. (Only year I didn’t submit was senior year bc after 3 years of rejections for a contest I was PAYING to enter I gave up.)
So to anyone in the comments hoping to submit there don’t feel bad if you get rejected from the awards! It’s not a reflection on if your skill level is good enough for art collage! Honestly I 100% think they just pick whatever fits their image best (which is usually whatever they can spin off as something relating to current events or hot button issues to show their politically correct and showcase artists doing stuff like that judging by entries I’ve Seen win….that and savant skill? I really don’t know seeing as I’ve seen technically a range of everything get accepted at one point or another yet nothing I ever submitted did, I never even won an honorable mention.)
And just adding to this, I ddi get into a decent art collage, SVA in their comics program and I received a 4 in junior year on my ap drawing portfolio so I 100% don’t think a rejection from scholastic art programs if anyone receives one is a valid indication of art skill or worth.
This makes me scared to apply to those schools 😳 You are extremely skilled congrats on the acceptances!

I really wanted to go to risd, but as you know the tuition is insane, so i decided to go to Emily carr which is right next to where I live. Plus, the tuition is the cheapest. 😉lol
Is there any other awards you recommend? Cuz I think the scholastic art n writing one is only for us citizens 😢 international student needs some help 🙋🏻♂️
I’d recommend doing your own research cuz some awards might be specific to your living area which would give you more chances to win! Also, research call for artists in your local area. It’s all about the experience! You don’t need to fixate on getting an award. If you can’t find any available for you, think of somethings you can start on your own that could impress the colleges! Think of ways you could share your artwork with your community. For example, my school was collecting agenda book cover designs and i submitted mine, although my design didn’t get picked, it’s something to write in your application.
your art is beautiful, how do you deal with the money if you don’t have a scholarship?
Well that's why I didn't go to RISD despite it being my dream school. lol. Also, even outside of scholarships that the schools give out, there are other scholarships options that you could research :)

Absolutely! Check the university’s websites for when the application season starts. I believe it opens around September and October!

What do you mean?
For a high school art portfolio done in an ap art class that is submitted to college board, you must have a question that your pieces investigate and try to answer or portray. Along with that is a paragraph explaining each piece, my question is what was your question or concept that you were exploring while creating your portfolio
That is if you had to do that. I’m from California so it is possible that other states don’t require that
@@oniks385 to put it simply, it was about myself. Through my portfolio I’m exploring who i am, and through that process i establish my identity. Thats why most of my artworks comes from personal experiences.
