People are always talking about how we need more overtakes. Back in the 90's there were less overtakes and tactics were more basic and less discussed about. But on the other hand, just watching the cars being driven around the track was much more entertaining, so that kind of made up for it. Personally, I think overtakes are a bit overrated anyway. When it comes to racing, I care more about the battles - one driver is defending, the other is looking for a way to get past. Sometimes the overtake happens, but that's not as important as the battle itself. DRS allows faster cars to overtake and build gap to slower cars more quickly, which reduces the time drivers are actually fighting for positions. I think the one thing which DRS genuinely improves are those rare situations when cars with evenly matched pace race against each other.

i would say the 1996 Ferrari he was driving, was not the car he liked. It probably was naturally oversteering more than he liked, yet he controlled it, pushing it beyond its normal limits.

Micheal driving with an over steering style is actually really smart. Think about it if he is getting as much power down as he can without slipping, he is putting the car to the absolute limit and leaving each corner as fast as the tires allow him. Very smart
Even though Alesi was one of my favorite drivers... he had nothing on Schumacher. Jean was overdriving his cars. Constantly. Schumacher always knew about his and the cars limits. The way he played with this terrible 96 Ferrari in the rain... man, this guy must be an alien.

There was one video on Driver61's channel about driving on the limit does not mean sliding constantly and he explained pretty well why Jean's style was ineffective. Besides, the V12 made the car really unstable during deceleration which was not liked by neither Berger or Alesi. However, this did work with MS's driving style and he really liked the V12 and preferred over the new V10. Unfortunately making the car instable wasn't the only issue withe V12. It was heavy, drank a lot and lost quite a bit of its power during a race.
Shame that brilliant Alesi never became World champion. He was one who had it in him. But damn, I miss the late 80's/ beginning 90's F1. (Mansell, Alesi, Berger, and of course Ayrton Senna!!) That kind of F1 is never to be seen again, cars of today do not tolerate that aggressive style.

His own fault. He had an offer from Williams but went to the mess that was Ferrari instead. That was a mistake which destroyed his career. I don't really understand that decision. Brilliant driver, but his passion betrayed him. It's a crying shame we never got to see him in a dominant Williams, just imagine...

Everything is relative. People were then comparing to 60s/70s. The same is true today, they over steer even less today than in 90s and 2000s. You kind of have to watch with much more sensitive eyes and process with higher speed/time.
A lot of this no longer happens after the 'big cars' came in 2017. Shame! The big tires, aero and whatnot somehow make it impossible to have actual slides without nearly loosing it or loosing a bunch of time!

It surprised me a bit not see more Senna footage. Because he was the master of drifting, power slides, and nobody could touch him in the wet.
