    Environmental toxins, such as PFAs present in nonstick cookware, pose significant health risks, including increased risk of chronic diseases, fertility issues, hypertension, and thyroid complications. These kitchen toxins are particularly concerning as they can infiltrate our bodies through the food we consume, food preparation surfaces, and even our drinking water. By understanding the impact of these hidden chemicals and their common sources, we empower ourselves to make informed consumer choices, minimize exposure, and foster better health outcomes for ourselves and our families.
    Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru sits down with environmental educator Lara Adler to discuss environmental toxins in our home. Lara presents the latest research to empower us to make the best decisions for our lifestyles, budgets, and circumstances. She shares the top sources of plastic and toxic cookware in our kitchens and how we can reduce our daily exposure without feeling overwhelmed. She also shares tips on making easy swaps in the kitchen and what to look for when choosing appropriate cleaning products.
    Lara Adler is an Environmental Health Educator and Science Communicator who teaches health professionals and individuals with health-based businesses to better understand the role of environmental chemical exposures in causing or contributing to chronic health issues so they can more comprehensively support the clients/patients they serve. Lara is a member of the National Association of Environmental Medicine and the American Holistic Health Association.
    In this episode, Dhru and Lara dive into:
    -What cookware we should absolutely avoid
    -What the PFA’s in nonstick cookware are linked to
    -Particles released by nonstick cookware and what we should focus on
    -What should we move towards in cookware
    -Top sources of plastic in our homes and how to reduce our exposure
    -Preventing cancer through lifestyle practices
    -Cocktail effect
    -Easy swaps at home
    -What to do about plastics we can’t avoid
    -What to look for in cleaning products
    -The impact of toxins on sperm
    -Food, water, and plastics as priorities to focus on
    -Toxins in ultra-processed foods

    Great advice on what to buy, but what about the plastics I already have? Some are recyclable, but not all. Do I donate them to Goodwill and keep them in circulation? That would defeat the purpose. The advice needs to be more thorough, more 360, to cover all that’s involved in replacing our plastics, room to room.

      @environmentaltoxinsnerd 2 місяці тому

      Most plastics aren't recyclable sadly - even the ones with those chasing arrow symbols. Since there's nothing to be done about plastics that already exist, the best thing is to re-purpose them for non-food contact uses: use old food containers to store nails, nuts, bolts, etc in the garage, for eg. There is no such this as "away", so donating just passes the buck, and putting them in the trash just moves them to a different location.

    What’s the difference between iron pots with inside coating and the the
    Ceramic pots?

    • @martinlang9615
      @martinlang9615 2 місяці тому +1

      Heat dissipation is much more evenly distributed, however that comes at a cost of speed. Otherwise it’s the same.
      I like cast iron, but it’s a massive pain to clean, ceramic is easy as.

    PFOA free cookware is available in non stick pans/sandwich presses etc
    If you use stainless steel you're absorbing nickel, which for me being highly allergic to nickel, is one more extremely dangerous thing!!!

    • @environmentaltoxinsnerd
      @environmentaltoxinsnerd 2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, PFOA and PFOS-free cookware have been available since the early 2000s - the problem is that PFOA (and PFOS the other chemical that was long used in the manufacture of non-stick cookware) are only 2 chemicals in a class of over 14,000 chemicals. Some of the newer PFAS chemicals that replaced PFOA & PFOS are similarly problematic and can actually break down into PFOA or PFOS. It's best to just avoid non-stick altogether.
      And yes, folks with severe nickel allergy can either avoid stainless steel, or look for 18/0 stainless, which has no nickel. Or just use cast iron, which has no nickel

      @@environmentaltoxinsnerdLara thank you for the very informative reply. I shouldn't be surprised that 'they' lie about everything, including alternatives supposed to be 'safe'. I do know the agenda though, including how 'they' cover up their endless poisons... it's very disappointing though. It oftens feels like nothing is safe: certaintly not the air or water which means our food is heavily contaminated as well, not just from the thousands of pesticides. So many landmines!!!

    Thank you for this. I have been cooking with stainless and cast iron for thirty some years. If done properly, they are non-stick as well.
    My BS meter did go off when she talked about affluence and food availability. That argument is so tired and wrong. An example: go to McDonalds for breakfast and order an Egg McMuffin, and it will cost you $5.00 for one person to eat one breakfast. Go to a grocery store and buy one dozen eggs for $2.99 and that one person can eat for 6 DAYS!! This comparison works for every meal! It is MUCH cheaper to eat at home.
    Stop the exposure to WOKE.

    • @DesArtandInk
      @DesArtandInk 2 місяці тому +7

      Your comment is only true if you do not take into account that many of the poorest neighborhoods in America *don't have grocery stores* within any reasonable traveling distance. This is why they are called food deserts. But they are populated with these fast food chains with the pricing geared to the neighborhood as well as other prepackaged processed foods at convenience stores. So please understand that what you say is true only in your own neighborhood and not in the poorest neighborhoods. Please have enough reasonability and rationality to understand that not every person on the planet experiences the same environment that you do. It is very well documented before "woke" ever became a buzzword. Thank you.

      The grocery stores were never there in the first place, they didn't leave. That's the whole point. Food insecurity is real even if it doesn't yet affect you personally.

    • @grochef
      @grochef 2 місяці тому +2

      @@DesArtandInk So right. But the issue is the same. It is just made more obvious by the defund movement. If neighborhoods were not riddled with crime, grocery stores would not leave. I think Thomas Sowell, Jason Riley, and others articulate this beautifully.
