I do live in Croatia on the small peninsula Istria. Flos Olei, the bible of all premium olive oil producers around the world, declared actually Istria as the best olive oil region in Europe for eight times in a row. 😊 Among the best/top 100 olive oil prucucers, almost half of them are from Croatia. Bought directly from the producer, one pays between 20 and 50 €/liter. We two need 30 l per year at least. We are in the sixties and totally healthy. Come and see.

Heat always does some damage, is why people are concerned about damaging olive oils , but yes in the end there will be more benefits frying with olive oils because they are sturdy, but there are limits to abuses ❤❤

Where I live half of the year on Crete, they make olive oil and they say that the best oil is one year old. We get it straight from the factory on the day the olives are picked.To begin with it is very bitter and over a few months it matures, and becomes darker at the bottom. The lighter oil at the top is the best and this is what the Greeks pour on their salads and use for cooking. And believe me this is the creme de la creme of olive oil.

1 liter a month is not really a backbone of a diet. You need some 200ml a day for just a basal metabolism. Most of their calories comes from wheat. With some meat, fish, cheese and fruit
The host seems to understand something that the interviewee doesn't seem to grasp. And that is that MOST consumers are NOT going to take the time or put forth the effort to become an expert on olives, as their busy lives don't allow it. So the one bit of information that would be the most important to the greatest number of people is absolutely deflected by the interviewee, and that is how do we know which oil is actually extra virgin olive oil, so we aren't getting canola oil mixed in. The lack of a good answer to this single question sort of ruins and devalues this podcast. It's not the fault of Dhru, as he tried several times to extract the answer, but was never given it.
I think the taste had a lot to do with it. If it tastes good (according to what we have learnt in this interview) I think it is unlikely to be cut with seed oils. Would a company cut a good quality coffee or wine with poor quality? I don't think so.

Do not know the purity of the olive oil in market. There no garrentee that the oil I purchase is 100% pured. The one that is known to be pure is so expensive!!!!! if olive oil is touted as being so good like its got some health halo around it and no one is allowed to dis or challenge then why not consume it whole in it's original natural unadulterated form straight off an olive tree? why bother squeezing it just for the oil? is concentrating the oil automatically makes it better from a nutrition perspective? I order oil from Crete. Local farmers produce early harvest virgin oil. They harvest when olives are green. Oil is a bit bitter and smells grass. Big companies mix different type and age of olive oils. Their purpose is to sell oil which is the same from the beginning to the end. Local farmers grow olives, but early harvest is not very big quantities. I pay around 75$ for 3 liters (0,8 gallons).
Was super excited for this guy but after watching left extremely disappointed, he is an EVOO tasting expert at his local country fair not a doctor or nutritionist, we all came for the effects and science on how this can help us, only thing I got from this is to be aware of timing of areas for harvesting, we wanted more info on what this does for us once inside the body. Note he down played the polyphenols BUT note he is no doctor or nutritionist so take his opinion on polyphenols with a grain of salt.
One does not have to be a "Doctor" or "Nutritionist" to be knowledgeable on a health-related topic ... actually it's more likely to be the opposite. Conventional doctors are taught very little (if any) nutrition in their education, and conventional nutritionists are taught to follow guidelines of BIG Food and government agencies such as USDA and FDA; who in turn work in compliance with BIG Pharma. This is precisely why optimal health in this country is rare.

@dhru - you bring such extraordinary people to your interviews. some of them have changed my entire thinking with respect to the stuff they talk about. Lustig, Panda, Stefano to name a few. But Lustig (as an example) is also very clear on certain principles - on disclosures, on not getting paid by Big Food etc. You are an influential figure on health discourse - it is time you start laying out some principles as well. Nicolas didn't disclose, neither did you that he was a OO salesman. When you said "buy small bottles to presrve freshness", he said "no, buy big bottles and drink more". That is when I googled on who he was. And stopped watching this video. Credentializing and disclosing is key to meaningful conversations. I am sorry, I hope you are not lowering your bar in a hunt for content.

I order oil from Crete. Local farmers produce early harvest virgin oil. They harvest when olives are green. Oil is a bit bitter and smells grass.
Big companies mix different type and age of olive oils. Their purpose is to sell oil which is the same from the beginning to the end. Local farmers grow olives, but early harvest is not very big quantities. I pay around 75$ for 3 liters (0,8 gallons).
Was super excited for this guy but after watching left extremely disappointed, he is an EVOO tasting expert at his local country fair not a doctor or nutritionist, we all came for the effects and science on how this can help us, only thing I got from this is to be aware of timing of areas for harvesting, we wanted more info on what this does for us once inside the body.
Note he down played the polyphenols BUT note he is no doctor or nutritionist so take his opinion on polyphenols with a grain of salt.
One does not have to be a "Doctor" or "Nutritionist" to be knowledgeable on a health-related topic ... actually it's more likely to be the opposite. Conventional doctors are taught very little (if any) nutrition in their education, and conventional nutritionists are taught to follow guidelines of BIG Food and government agencies such as USDA and FDA; who in turn work in compliance with BIG Pharma. This is precisely why optimal health in this country is rare.
@@bchristine58 I agree with you and much prefer a functional doctor to conventional, however my point still stands with this video, the guy seems to lack or didn't know how to share what I feel like most of us came here for, example it's protective against the damage caused by eating food in general, he glanced over how it amplifys eating other foods with it etc... should have went deeper with what it can do for us instead of talking about what color the olive is which we cannot see when buying the product 😂.
Personally I can do my own diligence on finding a source and his info on that ate up way to much of this podcast and it was dummed down to check harvest date and one source 😂, the basics, should have taken 30 seconds of the episode.
Not trying to be rude hopefully he sees my comment and if he gets on another podcast hopefully he can focus on what we are interested in.
@dhru - you bring such extraordinary people to your interviews. some of them have changed my entire thinking with respect to the stuff they talk about. Lustig, Panda, Stefano to name a few. But Lustig (as an example) is also very clear on certain principles - on disclosures, on not getting paid by Big Food etc. You are an influential figure on health discourse - it is time you start laying out some principles as well. Nicolas didn't disclose, neither did you that he was a OO salesman. When you said "buy small bottles to presrve freshness", he said "no, buy big bottles and drink more". That is when I googled on who he was. And stopped watching this video. Credentializing and disclosing is key to meaningful conversations. I am sorry, I hope you are not lowering your bar in a hunt for content.

Isn't it better to eat the WHOLE OLIVES, where you also get the fiber, rather than just the oil by itself - because it's 14% SATURATED FAT?
I wonder the same. ESPECIALLY due to the apparent difficulty in ensuring that oil is not adulterated.

This guy is VERY frustrating. Clearly he could name some reputable growers and brands and he is just freaking refusing to. The rest of us DO NOT know how to tell by taste. I do not like this guy.
The guy is mixing true and false information and making only advertising for him. Nobody can select a good olive oil by the smell and the taste. Chemical mixing makes all good 😊
I studied nutrition the last four years only through independent studies and most of the food offered to us is nocive to our health. Unfortunately.!

@@diogenebladi4469 It's possible I've been unlucky and tasted only bad olive oils. Or I just don't like the taste of olives. I do my best to steer clear of the whole fruit as well.
