Wow! I never knew that decoupage was that easy! Such a great idea for keeping old furniture. With your ingenious idea you can bring them to life instead of throwing them out. I can't wait to give it a try!
I love how in her videos if she makes a mistake she WILL tell you and show you. That's the fun part of DIYs. Trying something new, learning from your mistakes, and end up with an amazing customized item.
What I love most about this video is that she has the humility and authenticity to show her mistakes on camera. So many times, you watch these DIY projects on TV shows or online and they make you fearful of trying it yourself. You think, "Well, yeah, if I had a five person team of ex Martha Stewart staffers, I could do this! Otherwise, I doubt it!" But, you're shown here than you can make a mistake and recover from it with beautiful results. So, I really appreciate this video.
I absolutely love this. PPL who don't do crafts or don't have a creative bone in their body do not realize the beauty of trial and error. You demonstrate just that and patience. Thank you for such a great video, you were a joy to watch!
I think it worked out that your first attempt didn't go quite as planned, because cutting her silhouette out of the poster instead of having the background with it looks even more amazing. Great job!
Thanks for all the great tips on modge podge. I have done many modge podge projects always had bubble problems. Definitely need the squeezee tool. My daughter and I love your personality and presentation and of course your talent! Your dances make me smile!
I am new to the world of chalk and furniture painting and I was in your store on Saturday in Pembroke Pines. I bought 2 cans of CeCe paint to makeover an old secretary desk into a sewing/craft table. I will post my results when I finish but I just want to say the Marilyn dresser is absolutely awesome!! Kudos!!!
I love the fact that in your video you show the parts that don't work well and then going back to show your changes. This is ideal and wonderful with DIY projects! Thanks!
Hi everyone, trying to respond to some of your comments but the new google+ thing is making the process very confusing and difficult. Please bare with me and thank you for all the kind words! It looks like I can only reply to the newer comments and the ones that came in yesterday have no reply option. there's supposed to be a way to get around this, hopefully I will figure it out and be able to reply to you soon :)
Wow!!! You are amazing 👍👍why can't u just be my neighbor so I can go get u when I need to redecorate ...lol I love this Marilyn Monroe idea my room is actually all of her ...Well keep it up I don't get bored watching your videos your awesome..😍😍😍😍
One method of pasting paper to another surface is to apply paste to the paper and also to the surface you are applying it to. This equalizes the shrinkage on the applique and the surface. It was something I learned in creative process when taking art classes and it works nicely.
I forgot to mention that when you get the applique on take a clean piece of paper and place it on top of the applique and smooth it out, but always use a clean piece each time you are done with each section so that you are not contaminating untouched surface with glue from another section. Its a little time consuming but it will look good and clean, if that is what you want, and nothing from the ink or poster will lift up or shift around.
I admire you and your work much! I have done so many project since watching this. I am a mom to an autistic child and your project gave me life and income! My next project is a kitchen table with a giant knife fork and spoon!
Ew, no way! Taylor is a horrible person, taking her fans for court, and threatening to sue the man who taught her how to play guitar, for stating that he was her teacher. Debi gives off good vibes!!
This is totally what was looking for!! I love that you included the first attempt and how it didn't work, so you tried something else. You're an inspiration!!! Thank you for sharing your art!!
Debi...The Girl's got talent and she's doing what you love!!!! I want to be like you Debi when I grow up. You're an inspiration for me. I am now a subscriber!!
I love this. I am new to your channel and enjoy diy just about anything. I love that you show the whole process. The good, the bad, the sad and the happy success. This dresser was awesome. I tried doing this with wooden folding tables and pages from a kitchy calendar and had the same problem. The little tool and letting the glue dry in sections was brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Debbie I really enjoy your decoupage makeovers and your very happy spirit. Thanks for sharing. I've been hearing about decoupage but never investigated till now. So I will be trying it on some the items that I've been collecting. I am a hobbyist designer & decorator always looking for new ideas as sometimes I can't sleep for being creative in my mind so I've learned to get up out of bed type it up or write it down cause if I don't get up out of that good rest I'll lose the idea the next day lol. Thanks again keep up the good work
You are a breath of fresh air to the Internet and You Tube. And so creative. I just discovered you and I'm so happy. Thank you for all the hard work you do to entertain and teach us. I love it.
I agree with Rhonda Gray, it's so helpful to see you learn, sometimes by error. It takes the need to be perfect before attempting out of the equation, making it all possible! TY TY
That is amazing. Thank you for showing a failed idea, which is so reassuring for those of us who feel a little green about DIY. It's great to know that a seasoned pro sometimes changes direction. :)
Loved the finished results...I have had much success with decopage by relaxing the paper first in a bath of water. Put glue on surface...drip off excess water and then place it on furniture. Brayer or sqeegy works well to smooth out, just be careful because the paper is more fragile when it is relaxed.
Hello! This is a awesome tutorial. I used this idea to revamp a boring plywood dresser with a Iron Maiden "Eddy "poster, because I'm doing our bedroom in a rock/heavy metal theme. It turned out so amazing!! Thanks for the inspiration, I will post a picture later today or tomorrow.
I love you Debi! you rock and love that you show people how you work through problems. so many people think we just magically have it easy. They don't realize how much work it actually is!!!
I love the end result! So glad you stuck with it to come up with such a cool item! I know about Mod Podge and the way it works on large surfaces. The same 'bubbling' thing happened to me. There is a product out now that is supposed to not do that called Glue and Seal by Ranger, it comes in matte and gloss. It is on my list for this weeks' purchases too. I want that squeegy tool you used too. TFS!
Debi!! I wish I could just come visit inside your brain and see how these ideas come to be. I would have never thought of any of this in a million years. You are so awesome!! Just when I think I have my favorite project you did, you do one I like even more!
WOW!!!! THAT IS BEAUTIFUL!! I am trying to come up with ideas to decorate my bedroom with Marilyn Monroe. Everything so expensive so it's a slow process but your giving me some great ideas!! Love your channel.
Awesome video! Luv how the first attempt didn't work out and you showed how you went about it from a different angle....very helpful! Luv the final result. Very cool.
I am glad you posted this, I bought a Paris themed poster a month or so ago with the intention of doing this. Now thanks to your video, I know how, wish me luck!!!
Debbie...I learned to first brush a light coat of mod podge to the paper, front and back, before decoupaging to the surface. Let the mod podge dry completely then apply to your surface. This keeps your paper from getting wrinkled.
Love that you shared even the mess-up and how you creatively problem-solved! Mod Podge is far from easy to work with, but once you get it, it's fantastic! And you most definitely "got it" her. Well done, Debi!
My daughter is going to want this. I already know. I can't wait for her to get home so I can show it to her. All I need now is to find the dresser. Marilyn Monroe posters are everywhere! Thanks for sharing!
You are just so cute and creative! I love to watch your videos, such a great teacher, plus you are a great story teller and down to earth. Thank you for sharing your ideas!
I'm new at distressing & repurposed furniture. I recently moved to Florida & people leave stuff out WEEKLY so I go around grab what I like & I'm ADDICTED!! LOL I absolutely LOVE your stuff & ideas your BRILLIANT!! So your my second addiction... Now I'm switching to chalk cause I just used a primer & I'm not liking that it's to long & I want my stuff posted & sold quickly!!
I absolutely love watching all your fabulous videos! I'm a HUGE Marilyn fan so this video really inspired me! I'm going to be attempting a Marilyn project now as well! Will post pics once done, either way!
I love it and I love the fact that you just went w it you know 😀you kept it real w us knowing that not everything will come out perfectly right (but you know try again) makes me want to give this project a try .
You had me rolling when you made Marilyn cry! I’m glad that you messed up the first one because it looked way better the second time around!! AND… I can’t even be mad at you for painting that nice piece of furniture because you turned it into a piece of pop art! Nicely done 💕🖤
Wow!! I am so excited to try this! I have a spare room that is also my sewing room and I've made it into an Elvis theme so I'm gonna try it with an Elvis poster. When I'm finished, I will post it. Yours turned out amazing!!
Thank you for adding your mistakes in this video. It helps me know what not to try, and also teaches me how to fix it if I screw up. Most videos get it perfect in one shot because they've done it a million times before, and I'm a first timer. So your mistake give me more confidences that I can do it. Thank you!
Beautiful!!! I am going to do this!!!! I have been wanting to for a while and you have done it again and inspired me!!! I have a dresser that was my grandmothers...nothing fancy, but with a picture of my grandmother would be so cool and a family heirloom!!! Thanks again Debi for a great video!!!
There should be a LOVE rating because this tutorial is fantastic. I know I can do this. I'm going to send this to a couple friends. One will probably do a Coco Chanel one and the other one an Audrey Hepburn! Thanks Debi!
Wow! Debbie that is so cool! I think I will do one of me with my mermaid tail. That might come out awesome. Thanks for sharing that idea. And "Happy Valentine's Day!".
I'm looking for ideas for a project I'm working on, and stumbled onto your channel. You are talented. Great story teller, and your videos are easy to watch. Believe me, I"m very picky about youtube videos. Most are just unwatchable. Thanks for sharing!

I LOVE IT!! i will make my daughter drawers to her favorite characters. she will love. thank you for teaching us newbies. i rate you 2 thumbs up and a 5 gold star
this is great! I saw a post somewhere where a lady had done something very similar with a picture of her father as a child on a dresser for her son that she named him after and I thought I'd like to try that with a picture of my grandparents and an old dresser I've been trying to figure out how to fix up...I'm so excited to try this! thank you for sharing!
You are great, I think so!! Cuz you shared the failed one and showed how you fixed. And great job, of course! I hope I can buy cece in Japan where I am too.
I just found your videos and I love your energy!!You expained everything so clearly and I like the way you showed the mistakes and then how to rectify them. Awesome bureau! My neice is a huge Marilyn fan and I am going to make this for her. Thanx for the inspiration!
Wowza!!! I discovered you in the "Where Women Create" magazine!!! And I'm so excited to follow you! To read your story was amazing!!! Thank you for the inspiration! My daughter loves Marilyn Monroe
This is still one of my favourite vids, all these years later❤️
That is SUCH a great way to distress!!!!!!!!!!!!! No sanding! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks for showing the "fail" portion too - it's important! Love how it turned out and now I have inspiration to make my own. :D
Oh my gosh, your creativity is genius! Adding the rhinestones...YES!
Thanks for hanging in there. It turned out great!
I love that you showed your "oops" moments along the way. Thanks for letting us learn from your mistakes. This dresser is awesome!
Wow! I never knew that decoupage was that easy! Such a great idea for keeping old furniture. With your ingenious idea you can bring them to life instead of throwing them out. I can't wait to give it a try!

I love that you had a little trouble but worked thru out and showed us the process
This dresser was absolutely EVERYTHING!!!
I think it worked out that your first attempt didn't go quite as planned, because cutting her silhouette out of the poster instead of having the background with it looks even more amazing. Great job!
This is awesome! I'm thinking there might be a "Starry Night" dresser in my future.
Thanks for all the great tips on modge podge. I have done many modge podge projects always had bubble problems. Definitely need the squeezee tool. My daughter and I love your personality and presentation and of course your talent! Your dances make me smile!
Lookin good!!!!! I decoupaged a bathroom sink, and a ceiling one time...loved your enthusiasm too!!!!

Debi's Design Diary I think you look and sound like Taylor Swift now, never mind 20 years. great video by the way!

How can a person dislike this? Well done. Quick and to the point.

I like that you show that you mess up sometimes too , some videos never show mess ups!

Yes! Perfect! This is more along the lines of what I've been thinking of doing. Debi is right on the money. Nobody does it better! Yaaay!!!
