+mary stone Well done Mary, sorry you found it more difficult than expected. An experienced engineer would normally take ten minutes or more depending on the model and we would normally expect it to take maybe up to an hour. What part did you struggle with as it may be useful to explain in more detail in our future videos?.
This video really helped us despite not being able to take the front off our washer/dryer. Useful tip.. Put washing up liquid on the new seal when pushing it on. Worked a treat!
This worked perfectly for our Smeg washer (WMI12C7) although the video is quite quick I managed to get the entire thing replaced perfectly without any issue! Cheers!
Rory - Thank you for this video. You helped me replace my seal. Without it i would not have had a clue. Very helpful video with clear instructions. Well done guys.
Thanks for this, made the job much easier. As others have posted the top is held on with lugs at the front, a gentle tap with a rubber mallet pushes them back to remove the top. WD420 has a couple of extra screws on the top holding the control panel on and a couple of fiddly clips on the bottom, need to push the clips and push control panel up at the same time. All in about 45 minutes start to finish.
Well done Richard, if a little water appears at the end of the cycle near the front of the machine check the dispenser for mould as shown on this video: ua-cam.com/video/L7ku5kHflvE/v-deo.html
Thanks espares, used this video and ordered the part from you, fixed our machine tonight at a fraction of the price of and engineer call out I'm sure! Great content marketing!
Thanks for the video, the worst part was getting the top of the machine, I had to whack it, wiggle it and pull with all my strength. Once that was off the rest was straight forward.
Thanks for the comments Catherine, perfectly timed for International Women's Day. eSpares try to empower everyone to be able to repair their appliances. 😊
Thanks, I found this video helpful to replace the door seal I bought from you. A few comments that would help....you could mention that after removing the two back screws, you need to give the top cover a bit of a thump backwards to release it. And the front panel needs to lift up after removing the 4 screws. And some feedback for your sales department, it would be great if this item included a replacement door seal retaining spring as they can lose their ability to retain tension if badly corroded, which can happen if they get wet due to seal problem. If not, at least recommend it to anyone who buys the seal, as I imagine it only costs a couple of pounds. I'm just hoping mine is sealing OK (currently sitting and watching first wash since replacing the seal).
Hi B G, thank you for your comments and we are sure they will help other people, regarding the retaining spring it will be available as a separate part as that is how the manufacturer supplies it.
The Espares videos are the best on the net, very professional and always full of useful tips. I do have one question though regarding door seals. I have head that Zanussi ones are really hard to fit, unless you have been show before - what is the reason for this please?
So I have done this twice now, once on my WML540G and once on my mother in laws WML540 G UK (C) ECO TECH. Both were slightly different from the video, but you'll get there in the end. The Mother in laws had the front-door welded on unlike my own which had the screws as shown in the video to remove. So, access to the drum area to fit the new door seal was real awkward, however, I leaned the machine back onto the kitchen cabinet and it gives you a bit more access as the weight pushes the drum back, you just have to be extra cautious that the seal and the retaining bands are on well, whereas when you can take the door off, you can tell a lot easier. I did find getting the top off really difficult. Use a flat head screwdriver to prise the top off and it should just slide off the lugs much easier (prise from the front of the unit so the lid slides back away from the front of the unit). With the WML540G UK C, once the front panel is off (with the buttons) and the top lid, that's all you need to dismantle to get the job done (replace inner door seal) - if the door is NOT welded on, then you'll definitely need to take the door off. I am an IT geek not a not a hands on kinda guy, but if I can do it (i cant even put up a shelf), I am sure you can!
Well done Nova Don, FYI we do have another video: How to Replace an Indesit Washing Machine Door Seal That shows us replacing a door seal through the porthole and will link this with an annotation shortly
Thanks for sharing this video this as been very helpful, is this the Hotpoint WD440 model if so do you have a video on how to change the front outer drum.
Hi Peter, thanks for your comment. Nice to hear that you found our video helpful, and we hope you have been able to repair your washing machine with our help!
Thanks Espares. I just needed to know how to remove the top of the machine.. did it go forward or backward...easy answer.. mine popped off without much effort..no sign of a freshwater leak though, except some rust...I suspect one of the "O" ring seals at the valve end of the fill box..
Thanks for this helpful video, just managed to change the door seal on my Hotpoint but the front panel doesn't remove on my model. I used some fairy liquid on the rubber seal to help slide the new one into place. It was tricky having to do it all through the door of the machine but maybe having smaller girly hands helped!!
Carole Spratt Well done, we are glad you managed to replace your seal. We have a number of 'door seal' videos including one on an Indesit (from the same company) that shows replacing the seal through the door (see: ua-cam.com/video/3IqArUKDLYE/v-deo.html). In future it is worth remembering to check some of our other videos as a different branded machine may be more similar. :-)
Hi helpful video!i need to change my seal on a hotpoint aqualtis.however I need to remove the front and I can't find any screws do you know how to remove it?
Hi Mike, thanks for your comment here. Well done for thinking about fixing your washing machine yourself! You'll have this eSpares video on hand with you to guide you through it all!
@@eSparesthanks! I actually managed to do it this afternoon. I think I fitted it all properly but it’s still leaking (no longer from the door) any ideas what this might be? I checked the drum and that looks fine and checked the white plug at the bottom so not sure now. It’s not coming out the back either- it seems like it’s the front bottom
Excellent. Thank you SO much. I found putting the seal back on was a lot harder than it looked on the video and was starting to lose my temper! It's hard to get your hand in at the bottom. But it's on now and no leaks so far. Although the door doesn't close as easily as it did before. Any tips?
Hi Bull Winkle, well done fitting the seal. Do not worry about the door being difficult to close as this is normal for a new seal, this will 'reshape' over time.
I replaced the seal on our Hotpoint WMF 740P with a seal ordered from your website. However, it is now very difficult to close the door. The stock number of the replacement part is ES187254. Do you know what the problem may be?
Hi Raihan Noor, There may be a number of reasons but the seal is unlikely to be one of them. Check you have not cancelled the spin and make sure the load is balanced as if it cannot balance it will not allow it to spin. See our video: How to Prevent a Washing Machines Spinning Noisily for more information.
Hi Paul, its difficult to make out from the exploded diagram but the seal should be a lot simpler than this one. It appears your seal simply pushes onto the outer cabinet in the same way as this one, but there is no inner connection to make to the drum itself.
+Scott Chae This will depend on which variant of WML560 you have. If the front does not come off then see another one of our videos that will show how to replace the seal without removing the front panel: ua-cam.com/video/3IqArUKDLYE/v-deo.html
Very useful video but like others found the top did not come off as easily as Rory!! There are lugs at the front of the top lid which mean the front must be hit strongly to get the lugs to separate. It was not simple on my machine!! Great video though
I have an integrated BHWM129 , I need to replace the Seal but since it is integrated I don't think I can remove the front of the door since I cannot access the back of the machine. Is it possible to replace the seal just through the door with this model?
Hi Fabien, did you manage to replace the seals on your Hotpoint washing machine? I have an older Hotpoint model (BWM129 - integrated) and need to change the seals but can't lay the machine on its back without help.
Hi I did without puting it on the back, but we needed to be 3 to keep the rubber in place, it was really hard. I reckon now that putting the machine on the back would have helped.
Try rubbing a bit of cooking oil round the inner part of the new seal , makes it slide on a lot easier . Especially if you have a machine that you can not remove the front panel .
Superfast service from eSpares, but if you have a machine (WDD960 in my case) with the front welded on (why?) then this is impossible. Firstly getting the seal on right the way round without it popping off elsewhere is a mammoth task (the video conveniently misses how hard this is) - g-clamps are your friend here. Secondly the retaining spring loop on later models is one spring in a continuous loop. You can't wrap it round then tighten it as in the video. As soon as you stretch it, it pulls the seal off the lip. Going to have to give up and get an engineer out :(
brilliant how to video. . much appreciated. . Question... If the door seal is detached from the drum slightly.. which mines is.. is that dangerous? im half way through a wash and thought it wouldnt matter to much because its all apart of the drum but watchimg your vid makes me feel it could flood the inside of the machine and then my house.. is it too late to salvage this potential catastrophic situation ..😥😥😣😣🤔
HI, thanks for the comments. If the seal does come off the tub then the water will leak and the machine may try to continue filling and cause a flood. If stopped reset and turn to a drain or spin function to empty any water and when empty disconnect and check the seal. If it is undamaged just come off use this video to refit the old seal or replace if required. If this may have been caused by a 'shaky spin' see another video: ua-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/v-deo.html
eSpares Hiya.. its me again ...ive taken of the top and the panel at the top and bottom of the machine to get to the screws or bolts holding the front so i can rehook it ip tohether but theres no sign of bolts or screws...🤔🤔.. not only that.. but it also seems to be welded to the casing that surrounds the machine.. fuming.. its already flooded all my kitchen.. 😠😠.. what do i do now mate? i feel frustrated and a bit disappointed as i wanted to get this fixed tonight and now it looks like i cant get into the front of it to reseal the damn thing.!!
Many modern machines now have welded cabinets so do not allow the front to be removed. We have a number of door seal videos that show replacing (or fitting) door seals through the door opening like these: ua-cam.com/video/3IqArUKDLYE/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/nDvASsHsLA4/v-deo.html It is a bit more difficult through the opening but with patience most can do this.
Sometimes, too much water pressure from the mains going into the washing machine can cause leakage. If this is the case, just turn the mains tap down a bit to reduce the water pressure!
Where can I buy a new door seal for Hotpoint WF321? The link you have provided here doesn't work and I have no idea where to buy these parts. I'm in Newcastle upon Tyne. Thanks
I have this exact washer dryer, and albeit it is not leaking, I believe there is mould we cant clean off and it is starting to stink. Can you link me to the replacement as when I went there is asked me to choose eithe WD440G or WD440P but mine only has WD440. Thanks
Hi Justin, always check the label under the door surround for the full model info as the front may not show all the detail. In this case the P stands for Polar (white case) and the G stands for Graphite (grey case) so both use part: www.espares.co.uk/product/es800521/washing-machine-door-seal To prevent smells and mould see another video: ua-cam.com/video/ifWK9df1qgg/v-deo.html
On your model it is likely that the front cannot be removed as on later Hotpoint models the cabinets are welded together. It's more likely that you will need to change the seal through the door.
Can you tell me the best way to get access in a hotpoint Ultima wdd960 washer dryer to the broken counter weight concrete block at the front under the door, the front panel doesn't seem to have anyway to come off ?
If the concrete has broken it is likely to have damaged the weight mounting pillars. To get to it effectively you may need to remove the motor, disconnect hoses and electrical connections and dampers from the tub. And then lift the whole tub out of the cabinet (will be easier if you remove as much as possible and have another to lift with you. May be worth watching our bearing video to see what is needing to be disconnected: ua-cam.com/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/v-deo.html&lc
eSpares what is the best way to really get some torque on tightening the bolts after changing the concrete block so they don't come loose again as i cant get the front panel off ?
Do not over tighten as the pillars can break off. Remove the weight and pack up the pillars and use a thread lock paint to help prevent the bolts loosening. The main cause of the problem is likely to be an unbalanced load causing shaking usually when left unattended. Watch this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/v-deo.html
+Tony b Many new seals are so 'tight' that the door will need an extra push to close before it operates. Check the door is closed by pushing hard near the lock. Te seal will soften (especially if you run a couple of boil washes) and soon operate correctly. If this is not the fault check the lock connections have not been disturbed.
+Tony b That's a good lesson in life many already know, 'don't upset the wife or you will get bashed'. Sounds like the washing machine has learnt that now. :-)
A reply to both Karena K and davbay100: Please take look at our leaky washing machine Video. See if its any use, could be coming from elsewhere. Thanks
Check the drum mounting springs as shown in this video clip: ua-cam.com/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/v-deo.htmlm41s The end can break of these springs if you have a very shaky spin caused by unbalanced loads. For information on balance see another video: ua-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/v-deo.html
thanks, do the seals determin the 'door closed' led light? if the seal is all wonky etc will it casuse the machine to think the door is not closed even if is?
Hi Hywel 4, as long as the door close and the door latch makes contact with the door lock the door light would indicate, the door seal would not normally cause a problem unless the seal was out of shape as stopping the door from closing correctly.
Tip: on my machine, the top was stuck at the front, and I was worried about forcing it unless I broke it. Unfortunately, in this video after he removes the screws at the back, the clip cuts quickly to a shot of the top being lifted off effortlessly. This is misleading. There are actually a couple of hooks at the front, and you need to SLIDE the top BACKWARDS while lifting. This was not obvious, because as is the case with appliances which have sat there for years, it was stuck tight. This video (ua-cam.com/video/LB9--AvSvZg/v-deo.html) shows the top being slid off towards the back. Tip for future instruction videos: please don't cut out any steps - no matter if you think they are unimportant. You may have done this a thousand times, but it's little details like this that can be frustrating to someone who doesn't know which way to apply force - and is hesitant to do so in the wrong direction for fear of breaking it.
Hi Chriseurosong, thank you for your comment and you are correct that you have to tap the top to release it, this was one of our earlier videos which did not contain that information.
+Geoffrey Llewellyn The door seal clamp on the drum is shown here: www.espares.co.uk/product/es657529 If you require the clip on the outside use this link: www.espares.co.uk/product/es831870

Hi Justin, always check the label under the door surround for the full model info as the front may not show all the detail. In this case the P stands for Polar (white case) and the G stands for Graphite (grey case) so both use part: www.espares.co.uk/product/es800521/washing-machine-door-seal
To prevent smells and mould see another video:

Hi
Check out our "Do you have a leaky washing machine?" video.
Should answer your question.
Thanks
thanks
Hi, thanks for your comment...hopefully our video will help you to replace the seal on your washing machine yourself!
On your model it is likely that the front cannot be removed as on later Hotpoint models the cabinets are welded together. It's more likely that you will need to change the seal through the door.
I can't take the front of mine off it looks like it's spot-welded on. The bottom concrete block is loose and making a tremendous recket🙄
May be worth watching our bearing video to see what is needing to be disconnected: ua-cam.com/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/v-deo.html&lc
eSpares the problem is, with the hotpoint wdd960 washer/dryer it doesn't seem as if the front panel come off, it seems welded to the side's
You are right, many machines are like yours where the front panel is welded on and cannot be removed. 😐
eSpares what is the best way to really get some torque on tightening the bolts after changing the concrete block so they don't come loose again as i cant get the front panel off ?
Do not over tighten as the pillars can break off. Remove the weight and pack up the pillars and use a thread lock paint to help prevent the bolts loosening. The main cause of the problem is likely to be an unbalanced load causing shaking usually when left unattended.

Thank you
You are very welcome Ant.
We have removed the screws to the front panel, but it is also attached by pastic clips so we can't get it off. Any idea how to remove them?
What is the model number?, we may be able to help.
+eSpares my husband managed to replace it without taking the front panel off!
Glad to hear all is sorted. :-)
I Have a wmf720 the front panel doesnt come off, what am i to do?
+Graham Balfour You can replace the seal through the door. This is shown in our video: ua-cam.com/video/3IqArUKDLYE/v-deo.html
I cannot find the outer seal ,is it possible that there isn't one.
+Geoffrey Llewellyn What is your make and model Geoffrey?.
Just changed seal, no problem but machine now doesnt work, put program in and press start and it just bleeps?
+Tony b Many new seals are so 'tight' that the door will need an extra push to close before it operates. Check the door is closed by pushing hard near the lock. Te seal will soften (especially if you run a couple of boil washes) and soon operate correctly. If this is not the fault check the lock connections have not been disturbed.
+Tony b No luck, not sure why but program set and just bleeps, oh well
+Tony b Check you have turned the water on and see if there is something you have disturbed as fitting a seal should not cause this problem.
+eSpares My wife came in bashed the door a number of times and it worked, wow, who needs an engineer just ask you wife. Thanks for help
+Tony b That's a good lesson in life many already know, 'don't upset the wife or you will get bashed'. Sounds like the washing machine has learnt that now. :-)
Very welcome @Marc1998Scotland
A reply to both Karena K and davbay100: Please take look at our leaky washing machine Video. See if its any use, could be coming from elsewhere.
Thanks
my hotpoint drum seems to have dropped and front rubber seal seems unattached?
Check the drum mounting springs as shown in this video clip:
ua-cam.com/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/v-deo.htmlm41s The end can break of these springs if you have a very shaky spin caused by unbalanced loads.
For information on balance see another video: ua-cam.com/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/v-deo.html
@frankbing1 Check out our "How to replace washing machine bearings" video - it should be helpful. (can't link in UA-cam comments)
are seals all the same size?
Hi Hywel 4, the door seals are not all the same and may fit slightly differently depending on the model details.
thanks, do the seals determin the 'door closed' led light? if the seal is all wonky etc will it casuse the machine to think the door is not closed even if is?
Cool
its called the retaining clip.
+Geoffrey Llewellyn The door seal clamp on the drum is shown here: www.espares.co.uk/product/es657529
