    I started this video thinking I should just go ahead and swap mine out with a fresh one. After the first couple minutes I decided this was NOT a job for me. Props to you for showing the step by step instructions!

    This video saved me $550!!!!!!
    I called a repair shop, they quoted me $680, a brand new washer was $800!! So I ordered the boot seal off of Amazon for $130 and attempted it to do it myself (worse case I can't fix it, return the boot seal and get a brand new washer for $800)
    But since this video was so detailed, I got it done in 2 hours.
    Thank you guys so much!!!!

    Thanks for posting this video. I replaced the boot on our LG washer yesterday and it was a breeze with this video. It only took roughly 1.5 hours from start to finish with me taking my time and reviewing your video during the repair. No telling how much money this saved me. The boot seal was $57 and the spring expansion tool was $11 on Amazon.

    Instructions worked great! Inner spring can be pain but it is important to unhook, put in groove completely and then rehook just outside of tub lip. I then used a small pry tool to push it into the groove.

    Absolutely beautiful demonstration! Although my LG was slightly different, this ALL MADE sense. I ended up changing out the old boot due to a radical smell I could not get rid out. Turns out the the drain on the old boot was clogged helping keep all the bacteria REAL HAPPY when the water did not fully drain out. Got this project done right the 1st time with your help!

    • @GpaWestCoast2022
      @GpaWestCoast2022 8 місяців тому

      Nope. Assuming you are talking about the small drain hose at the bottom of the boot…. I simply removed the clamps on both sides and pulled the small dain hose off. Took the dain hose over to my wash sink and removed the sludge with a screw driver… put the hose back on. Ironically the smell seemed to have returned today after a week. Going to use AFFESH tablets and see what happens @@wiskers69

    Great video, with professional quality work! This video saved us while on vacation in an Airbnb. My wife put some of my son's hockey gear in the washer and it somehow destroyed the rubber boot. No local stores had the part. Thankfully, an online retailer came through with expedited shipping. Amazon next day delivery for the spring tool, and Harbor Freight for the socket set, pliers, and screwdriver. Got it done in about 90 minutes. This video saved us a lot of money and headaches! Thank you very much.

    Tip for easy installation of springs. This tip makes putting the inner and outer spring on super easy. It is a two person operation and you will need four butter knives. Begin putting the spring on from the bottom. Both people work their way up on each side placing the spring in the groove. When it becomes difficult about half way up that is when you begin using the butter knives. Prop one knife under the spring holding it in place. with the other knife, move a little further up - only about an inch - and use the the other butter knife to pry the spring on. leave that knife in place to keep the spring locked in at that position. then proceed to remove the lower knife and use it to pry the spring on another inch up. The key is for each person to do this equally until your reach the top. Then it is a simple task to pry the final bit at the top. This worked on both springs and took very little effort.

    I have worked on about 5 or these over the years, and every time i try using the "spring expansion tool", to re-install the inner clamp wire, and every time i give up and use either a couple of cords or a couple of dulled flat blade screw drivers. The issue is the tool is poorly made / a bit too small in its expansion range, and/or the spring is missing a second loop for the tool or cord to get out of the way of the far end of the wire loop. Notice how far open the tool is in the video, as it is about to slip off the ends. It needs another inch of expansion with shallower arms. The tool seems to work fine at removal, but that part is easy.

      Use 2 vise-grip and lock the wire from 2 side then use something flat to slie the sproung back. Easiest way

      Exactly, very good point!! But you never hear the "pros" tell you of any of these problems. It's like they go by the LG playbook and edit out those times when they use methods that don't toe that line, very frustrating. And it seems the only comments they respond to are those that are just simple praise of their work. Comments like yours or the one above this one get nothing, not even a thank you.

    • @tamotit

      For anyone curious, the expansion tool worked just fine with one modification. For the plier end requiring the “slip off maneuver”, file a notch closer to the tip so there is more gap on the spring loop when you thread the hook into the loop.

    I’m no professional but I was able to do this job. It’s 100% because this video helped immensely. The spring was definitely the hardest part. I bought a version of the spring tool but it was too small and didn’t work. So I ended up muscling it with a pair of regular pliers and a pair of needle nose. Still very tough. The outer spring I just used my hands but that inner one sucked. I didn’t need to take off the weights either. Great video though. Thank you.

  • @rgilgen
    @rgilgen 6 місяців тому +2

    Two days later and still not finished. Not the fault of the video, but I stupidly bought an "equivalent" gasket from e-bay, AppliancePartsFinder, that was anything but equivalent. The who thing was too small... not by much, but enough to make it a real pain to put into place.
    Update: My bad. Somehow the part number I found wasn't correct. Ordering the correct one and hopefully it will be as easy as this video shows!
    Final update: Much easier with the correct part. Still not quite as easy as the video implies, but it's now done and done right.
    One caution... the last segment of the video makes connecting the front of the gasket with the tub a matter of draping it over the rim. Not so. There's actually a small folded lip on the backside of the gasket the doesn't look it's separate from the gasket. You need to lift that open and put *that* over the steel rim. Otherwise, the whole gasket diameter appears to be too small.
    Lessons learned: Buy the genuine LG part (only $25 more than the "equivalent" part made in Turkey!). Be sure the model number fits your machine. Do get the spring stretching tool. Be prepare to learn lots!! Review the video often. Even with all my mistakes I saved several hundred $$.

    Great demonstration.. our washer has leaked on and off for so long. Some times it wont at all.. well, i pulled the outer tension ring of the seal today just to investigate as its been neglected long enough.. (lol) well.. im kind of upset. The way the little clamp is that holds on the drain hose had been rubbing on the seal since day one and eventually wore through it.. not too impressed by such a little overlooked assembly design. If it were 45 degrees in another direction it wouldn’t have been an issue..

    It makes no sense that these boot seals grow so much mold and are so hard to replace. I think a lot of people would happily replace this thing each year if it was fairly easy to do. “Washing” clothes in a mold trap is ridiculous. The companies are leaving a lot of money and illness on the table with this bad design.
    Thanks for this video.

    • @repairclinic

      Mold and mildew is around us all the time. They thrive in dark, damp environments. This is why it is very common to find mold and mildew in bathrooms when they do not have proper ventilation or are not regularly cleaned. Mold and mildew spread spores and when we wash our clothes in the washer we are removing the dirt, bacteria, viruses, and spores from our clothing, but it is getting trapped in the washing machine. Regular cleaning and certain practices can help combat mold and mildew buildup.
      We recommend the following to help reduce mold and mildew build up. Reminder: Washer door boot seals are porous and using harsh cleaning agents too frequently can damage the door boot seal. These items need to be porous so that the moisture can be released.
      First, make sure to wear cleaning gloves and a mask, you don't want to breath in any spores while cleaning. Once a month before running a self clean cycle, use affresh wipes or use vinegar and baking soda, to clean the door boot seal. Make sure to use non-abrasive brushes and washcloths when cleaning. If you notice a funky smell in your washer affresh or vinegar will kill that smell. After you are done cleaning the door boot seal, use affresh washer cleaner or vinegar or bleach and run a self-clean cycle. Once the self-clean cycle has ended, open the washer door, and take a dry, clean cloth to dry off the door boot seal and the glass.
      Anytime you are done with a load of laundry, you should leave the door open after you have removed the clothes and use a dry, clean cloth to dry off the door boot seal and door glass. This will help reduce the moisture being trapped and left behind. Do not leave damp clothes in the washer for long periods of time. If the location of the washer is very humid, you might want to consider getting a dehumidifier for that room.
      Hope that helps!

      Did you get this resolved? If not, I'm wondering if you got your weights on correctly. I know that, with mine, it would have been easy to not have them fully seated on their mounts; I used a rubber mallet to make sure mine were seated before I re-attached the screws.

    After 4.5 hours of work, I've completed the task! 🎉 I'm genuinely proud of my achievement. Dealing with the inner and outer rims, which were different sizes, required a unique approach. To tackle the larger ring, I utilized the spring removal tool less and resorted to using both my feet while pulling with my arms to loosen the spring. The majority of my time was dedicated to handling the inner spring. Additionally, I removed the door and hood of the washer to make accessing everything easier.🫡
