    Things I forgot to mention in the video. It has 980cc MPI kit. Boost was at 40-41psi on the ethanol runs.

      Really on 980’s? I’m surprised it managed 650whp on those.

      Will upgrading the MPI injectors to like 1300cc give even more power? or is it limited by the pump?

      @@gerardocampos3875 This is about the right power for the setup. Upgraded intake manifold and some porting on the head will net about another 50-60whp, but it would definitely need 1300’s for that.

    Nice results. I daily drive a 620whp Golf R in Alberta. Year round and it's made 2 trips to Vancouver in December as well through the Rocky Mountains. It's crazy that you can daily drive a 10 second car year round in Canada. And it's been reliable. 2 water pumps and 2 oil control valves is all that's been done to it for mechanical failures.

    It breaks 300 hp at ~4100 rpm. For a race car the spool is fine but driving around town the turbo would never spool in normal circumstances. That's the problem with big turbo small motor lol. Even my is38 feels laggy at 6000+ elevation where i live. Have to drive in sport mode to get anything out of the turbo light to light. But the is38 is also heavily limited at this elevation, cant work it too hard due to wheel speed and pressure ratio. Im pretty set on a 3071R, i think its a good balance between output and spool. Vortex standard probably spools quicker but is limited to ~370 wheel uncorrected on 91 which is still a bit soft.

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Місяць тому

      It's the nature of turbochargers and small engines. You want big power, there is a sacrifice to be made. You want 1500rpm spool, and no power... buy a TDI.

    I had this turbo on my Audi TTS, full forged engine with 95oct and WMI. I was pushing 2.8bar(40-41psi) and it lasted 2 weeks. My 100-200kph time was 6.1secs. I assume around 600hp bc now I'm on a different turbo setup pushing 575hp on the dyno with the same boost resulting 100-200kph time of 6.5sec. Based on my observation Typhoon looks like a garrett 3076 core with custom housings and hybridised? turbine. I dont get how people manage to be so happy with the product. I also managed to destroy the vortex xl with the same setup after 4-5 months at 34-35psi. Dyno result was 508hp 612tq with vortex xl

    • @eqtuning
      @eqtuning 4 місяці тому

      That’s a very unusual result… these turbos have proven to withstand a ton of abuse at 40-45psi. But as with anything, you have to make sure the rest of the setup and the tune are done properly.
      For reference, the Typhoon uses a G30 turbine wheel with a custom compressor designed specifically to be efficient at these boost levels while keeping the shaft speeds reasonable.
      The fact you were only doing a 6.1 100-200 at over 40psi signals an issue with your setup or tune. You either had a major restriction or were pushing things too hard for your octane levels. Both of these variables can quickly over stress any turbo.

      kinda slow eh? My best dragy on a 34-36psi psi Audi TT with a stock engine never been opened has been 6.4s 100-200 E50 fuel, my 6.8s 100-200 is on my youtube channel which is 32psi and only E30 12* timing. It's a GTX3076, another friend did a 5.8s 100-200 with the same turbo and TTS which is on Dragy with 36psi and all the timing.

    I know its a long shot but have you guys even had the GTI/R have issues around 3k rpm? Have a 2016 GTI that was stage 2 Unitronic and the EPC light came on but no check engine light, once I got the chance to scan it with an OBD11 it was showing a cylinder 3 pressure too high and a hide cylinder also an evap code for incorrect purge flow. I have checked the gap on my NGK plugs, swapped coil packs for new Eldor packs, for a bit it cleared up but when I go hard on it there is a power cut around 3k rpm, had a buddy drive it and the Epc light came back on. I will be replacing the injectors soon; from what I’ve found that could be my issue. Anyways I appreciate it! (Epc light came on first after a valve cover reseal and an upper timing cover replacement, the guy had crossed the brass fitting to the HPFP and the fuel rail line even after replacing the HPFP have been having those issues intermittently, went from uni stage 2 ecu/tcu with the overrun file back down to stock, low to medium load the cars fine but go hard it sputters a bit then the Epc light comes on)

    As a purely personal interest. I’m in Australia. I have a 2016 Golf Alltrack and yes I know they have been done to death elsewhere. My car has an IS38 with a Golf R downpipe and full Golf R wagon exhaust. Other than an inlet elbow and a K&N panel filter it just has a tune from an Australian crowd called Underground Performance based in Melbourne. It hasn’t been on a dyno. It feels reasonably quick but am I expecting too much for it to be as good as a standard Golf R wagon? Also do you think I would get a noticeable bump by upgrading the intercooler and getting a tune on a dyno? I live in Queensland which generally is hotter than Victoria. Final question. Would I gain much by going to a larger downpipe?
    Maybe you don’t have to address my specific issues but perhaps a general discussion on this platform would interest others. I’ve been following you guys for years and I recall the first video that I watched was the one where you upgraded the turbo on a Mk7 Golf 1.8t.

    I have a question:
    Did I notice on this specific Golf R, in a previous video, that you guys installed the Clutch Masters hydraulic tob/slave? If so, do you think this is a worthy piece of equipment to install over the OEM style tob/slave?
    I’m asking because I will be building the motor in my MK7 GTI 6spd in the future to make more power, and I’ve been through 5 aftermarket clutches on my car (I am IS38 WMI). 4 had to be replaced from premature tob/slave failures (all using SMF). So now I’m running a Sachs Performance clutch kit w/DMF, which I’m hoping lasts a lot longer as this car is my daily. I have wondered if I should get the Clutch Masters hydraulic tob/slave, but nobody has written anything or made any videos regarding it. I’m wondering if it will be a part that will be reliable for many miles. I’m hesitant to go back to a SMF setup because of the weak design of the OEM tob/slave.

As for the fuel system my only mod is a HPFP. With pump gas is it important to do a LPFP as well? Any info on that subject helps. Thanks.

    Calling a golf R a sleeper is hilarious. 90% of the golf R's on the road are modified to sole degree or another and everyone knows they're quick anyway. A sleeper is a car that doesn't look fast, is pretty much stock except the engine but goes like a stuck pig.
