    Been there done that, in that very block. My treat of the week on a Sunday evening was visiting the co-op up at the roundabout, using a lovely warm toilet. Absolute heaven having a warm toilet block to do me business in.

    Hi guys, great vlog!
    Just a quick hint.
    Always run fresh water through your water-filling hose before putting the end into your water tank. The water left in the hose from the previous filling will be stagnant and may hold some very nasty bacterial infections. There may also be an abundance of insects which have made the hosepipe home. You may be washing them into your water tank.

    Hi both. Dried pine cones make good fire starters, also save your cardboard from toilet rolls, stuff with strips of news paper. I definately wouldn't fancy a pump out loo, just the thought of a huge tank of waste slushing around, usually housed under the bed area yuk. 🤢

    May I give you some kindling-making tips. Never, ever, hold the wood by hand when you make that initial hit with the axe to split it. Use another couple of sticks to hold it upright, or wear strong gloves. There are a couple of things that can happen; the axe bounces off then slices into your hand/finger, or it goes straight through the wood and slices into your hand or finger. Ask me how I know - I made that mistake after a couple of beers when camping in the woods once, glad I had a first aid kit. Keep safe!

    With a compost loo the emptying of the wee holder is the only thing you need to do regularly (every couple of days) but if used properly the poo compartment should only need to be emptied once a month. Coir is the best option we found but you have to remember to 'crank the handle' to mix it after every poo - and never put toilet paper down! A bag of scented 'doggy poo bags' to hand sorts that problem. A useful thing we found that meant only lady wee went into the loo was my man bought a portable wee container (Danni as a nurse knows how they work!) which are readily available from chemists. Emptied and rinsed out daily they do ensure the loo wee container doesn't fill so quickly!! What a lovely post 😉🙄😅. Take care you lovely pair.

      I am confused by the compost toilet as this would be my choice. However, I read that you have to compost for up to two years and CRT won't take it. So where do you store all the waste whilst it's breaking down?

    Your loo vent will work if you find a way to keep it negatively pressurised relative to the cabin. A fan forcing air into it somewhere at the smelly end is what you want. Probably some crappy (sorry) old PC fan will work.

Here’s a lot of the stuff we have - www.amazon.co.uk/shop/danniandjoe/list/1RKMWXETX8D7A?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m - batteries wise, lithium is a lot more affordable now, for the van I’ve just picked up a 100ah LiFePo4 battery for around £360, you’d need two 100ah standard leisure batteries for the same usable capacity & they’d likely cost £200 anyway, plus a few more benefits like saving space & weight so that’s something to consider!

    Call me paranoid because I wouldn't want to use them, but you can get those water systems that take water out the canal.
    Also, I have never seen one on a narrow boat, but you can get black waste incinerators.

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  Рік тому

      We spoke with a company that make the systems. They don’t advice drinking the water as yet but are developing an extra filter that would allow it. System is expensive but would save a lot of hassle - at the moment it’s ideal off showers, washing machine etc

    • @Falney
      @Falney Рік тому

      @@DanniandJoe the problem I have with it is that it doesn't matter how often you filter, it won't remove things dissolved into the water. So it could still have chemicals in it if there was some in there.
      With all the junk idiots throw into the canal, it wouldn't surprise me if there were contaminants in there though.

    What happens to the 'grey' water on a narrow boat, i.e. waste from the bath, shower, sink, etc? (Not toilet!) Does that go into a tank that gets emptied or does it go overboard?

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  Рік тому

      As Jill said it goes overboard. It’s an unwritten rule that you buy as eco a product as you can but it’s not guaranteed. We were surprised to hear it when we first bought the boat. Hence why you don’t want to go swimming in canals! 😫😂

    • @dallassukerkin6878

      @@DanniandJoe My guess as too why that is permitted is because the water of the canals does not go to the treatment plants that create potable water for households. I'm no expert on the subject tho'; my only contact with the subject is that I create SCADA control systems to run those plants.
