Tell your Dad Im over 60 never owned a car bicycle everywhere 70k round trip to the shops If he sends me his car I will send him my bike :) On a more serious note at least youve got the nouse to do an ad thats a bit different.
@@1mmickk Fait play to you mate! I bet you have to take a shopping list each time you go, you wouldn’t want to forget the milk now would you? 👍🏻
@@Sifinds Just one of the many reasons why I love you Si youre a classic mate how did you know I bought a Cow?
That looks like Caversham Bridge and I was born a mile from there and we swam in the river a little upstream. The HQ of the Thames Conservancy was in Reading just upstream from Reading Bridge and the successor disorganisation is based in more or less the same spot- Thames Water. I did work for the Thames Conservancy for a while by which time it was a division of Thames Water and found numerous bottles- most I gave away. Reading Corporation trolleybuses used to come up to the Caversham Bridge Hotel until 1965 - they turned around in the forecourt but that nice old building burned down and was replaced by a monstrosity. I think those lighters may have been designed also to hide the flame- not just from the wind but snipers. The famous writer Saki may have been killed by a sniper who spotted a cigarette in the darkness his supposed last words were "Put that bloody cigarette out!". His short story "Tobermory" about a talking cat is a wonderfully funny read . I could write so much about that area which is where I spent the happiest years of my life as a kid but I will quit now!
Nick, thank you for that information…it’s always great to hear the back story of someone who’s been there and lived it…keep writing!🤩
Thank you, this was so interesting to read.
I’m a history addict.
Always nice to hear of people who have lived through times when I wasnt even born .
I adored listening to my grandparents while growing up.
I asked them all sorts of questions from the past.
Luckily they had all the time in the world and talked for hours about the war, old buildings that wasn’t around anymore family history and about the village I grew up in😃
Wow Si, yes I know that area very well. I was born just downstream where you were fishing and gre in on that stretch of the Thames. I remember going to Pipers Island, Salters steam Boats that ran from Caversham Bridge and The Bridge Hotel before the fire. It was a beautiful old building in traditional wooden features with very grand staircase and function rooms. There used to a victorian building next to the bridge which got turned into public toilets and later bought by someone who had it numbered and dismantled to be rebuilt somewhere abroad. There alot of history too on Frys Island with a battle taking place between DeMontfort and Lynmouth . I watched you on UA-cam for a long time and can't believe you've been where I was born and lived. Amazing part of the Thames.
@@malina1239I was the same way almost all of my 70 years. My Grandparents and Great grand Aunts and Uncles had lots of stories. I still love history all of it. I read all I can about American history and ancient history from all over the world.
Why is it that beautiful old buildings are always replaced with hideous monstrosities? Who makes these decisions?
Anyway, Thank You for your comment!
I'm 70 years old with arthritis in both knees and I have an Engwe e-bike just like yours. I love it and it has given me the ability to get out there and go on or off trails. Loved this video, a little of everything!
That’s so great to hear! Cheers Mudlover👍🏻🐾🧡
So touching to see you with the small assist to get your dad going on the bike! I bet he did the same for you many years ago! Loved "meeting" him. Thanks for another great episode!
Thanks Tricia! Yes he did, and I cried learning because the bike was too big for me haha
This video is a good one , loved it . Lots of nice people fossicking about here and there ,and lots of good finds❤
You need a bigger boat
Very impressed by the thoughtfulness and effort to keep the river cleaner and the area you dock at clean!
Thanks - Great compilation! Loved the double act with your dashing Dad! 😊
Thanks so much Penny! You’ll be pleased to know he can have the bike whenever he wants 😜
Love it when you find padlocks keys and boat plates. What a cracking film, thanks Si.
Cheers Jake!👍🏻🐾🧡
Wow your Dad looks great. I can’t believe he’s 71.
I was just thinking the same!
@@SharonPadget thanks! I’ll tell him
Quite the Silver Fox ❤😊
Boat plaques are awesome, the padlock and key cleaned up beautifully, thanks Si!
Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
Your Dad looks like he had a blast on the bike - that's his Xmas pressie sorted lol. Love how much info you can get from a rusty old padlock!
Look @ ALL THE SWANS(!) I LOVE THEM! I think that your Dad's smile said it all & the little doggo in the field was so darn cute too! Cheers to you and best to your Daddo.
Thank you for sharing with us! You all had so much fun and found so many treasures! ❤
@@TheGeekyBanana Cheers Mudlover! 👍🏻🐾🧡
I love the boat plaques , the graphics always satisfy. That 1929 hex was a real sweet treat. The fact that you can potentially track it to a specific boat is even better. Give Daisy a squish from me
Your Dad, and the terrific bike for the win! The large key is my favorite. Thank you, Simon!
1 cent, Wilhelmina Koningin (Queen) Der (of the) Nederlanden (Netherlands). She was queen from 1890 till 1948 spending the 2nd world war years in London together with most members of the government. Via the BBC they kept the dutch informed by radio. The other members of the royal family flee to Canada.
Great info. Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
Your. Dad! Great episode! Love the collabs and follow ups with history. I have time these days to go down your rabbit holes, so to speak! Love you and love your mud. The e-bike is on my bucket list now 😉
Daisy was jealous of the attention your finds were getting!!
Daisy needs her own channel modelling the finds!
haha true!
Just a brilliant video Si, I loved every minute ! Had to comment because I really love your channel and never miss watching your adventures. You really have some great mates too and you always make me laugh 😂 Hugs from an old gal in California celebrating 73 yrs, Cheers 🥰🥰 xx
@@susanroller6905 Alright Susan! How’s it going? Thanks for watching! Keep the lovely comments coming x
I laughed when your dad left you in the dust like see ya 🛵… he’s too cute 😂😂😂
Love to know what Daisy was telling you. Very chatty. Padlock came up beautifully. Off to bed now as it's early morning in NZ
I think she just wants attention. Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
Kia Ora Jane
Brilliant vlog Si! Great finds from Thames this time related to boating and barges. Loved your goofy quality time with your pa. Mine passed 2y ago. I miss him.
I LOVE the lock and key, both came up a treat, and some fabulous coin finds too. The history you provide too is so appreciated, it's so fascinating. In fact I loved it all Si. Daisy and Nelly being the icing on the cake. Thank you so much Si 😻xx Teresa 🇦🇺♥
Those two customs & excise badges show how Queen Elizabeth chose a different crown to the one used by her father- George VI and the preceding kings after Victoria- her crown was on your sixpence which were called tanners when I was a kid .Charles has chosen a new crown. I have exactly the same key which I found in my garden- I had not realised it might be Georgian!
Spot on! and well done on the key - the chunky teeth will be a clue to the age
So much I could comment on here; this was a video filled with amazing stuff (I really want me an e-bike for my decaying old carcass)! But that padlock and key stand out for me. I love how your skills, patience, and skin loss brought out so much from a hunk of rust!
Loved the patter between you and your Dad.
I'm still hoping you'll go rescue that old cart you found. Thanks for another great video! One good turn deserves another, your friend was so thrilled to get that button.
"In Rust We Trust" will be a great addition to line up of merch . Especially with the favorite color orange. Great idea. Keep making wonderful content. I enjoy seeing your new adventures every Sunday. We don't get to enjoy those kinds of adventures here in Georgia , USA
By the way your dad is hilarious. Enjoyed watching him become a kid again
@@sherrytapp7588 cheers Sherry! 👍🏻🐾🧡
A really enjoyable video, loved seeing all the boat plates and also the keys you found. The padlock and chain looked great under all that rust. Nice to see your dad again too.
Daisy being extra chatty today!
Yes she must've missed me
Those boat registrations are very cool
@@Trash-Castle they are! Imagine filling a wall with one from every year!
Because of an injury right before a holiday in Scotland I rented a folding e-bike to get around and LOVED it!
Some lovely finds, and the scene stealing cats too. 😺
Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
I have a collection of old keys l didn't realise they were so old. Exciting thanks Si xx l have them hanging on a lovely piece of wood in the hall.😊❤
That small hinge looked like ones I’ve seen on shutters of very very old churches 😊so many very cool finds ,the padlock was very nice 😎
Cheers Chris - good shout that! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
Really enjoyed watching the beautiful video with lots of lovely finds and amazing facts about the items.
Enjoy

Thank you Simon for this wonderful video. Great finds. I love the old keys. That hand looked painful. Yikes! Take care and cheers.
Awesome new way to take back history and clean the river !! Good job, fun video !
Always great fun going mudlarking with Si x
Fantastic padlock and key! Great job getting the padlock to show us its history. Love your videos!
@@laniejewell7512 Cheers Lanie! 👍🏻🧡🐾
Great video Si, and exciting finds. Seeing the lovely key made my heart sink a bit. I had a bunch of old keys that came from an aunts house in Scotland. The house was early geogian and the keys were beautiful. Sadly they went missing in one of our many house moves. I love the way you and your pals get on sharing your finds. Thanks for the river explore.........Alioban ❤
Brilliant video and we really enjoyed a good couple of days out with you si 🤙 can’t wait for our next adventure on the Thames 🤙🤙🤙
Cheers Steve! Looking forward to more mudventures with you guys!
Rust is the number one problem for modern society, as you can imagine.
Did you know there is an Iron pillar in India, very, very old, that is virtually rustless
And blown if they know how it was made.
Loved your dad's fillum. Great finds Si. Thanks for all the fun and awesome company.
that is insane! 3 plaques! straight away !.. that's mudlarking for you
I'm a bit disappointed, Si. You didn't say, "Let's get some luck in the muck!" In your intro 😂
It was luck in the duck muck this week lol😂 🦆
Oh hey! Hi Peaky Dippers! Excellent haul! You know Si, where there’s a “will” there’s a way! Love the old skeleton keys. 🐈⬛🐈😸
I know here they sell (US) they sell a lovely full sized seat, even with a back support, for these old buns! lol for the e-bike. Thanks for taking us around!
Exactly what I was thinking would make me really consider an e trike ( balance problems.)
@@wandapease-gi8yo I’d go for the e trike too, but I understand the bigger seat and back rest work real well.
Love the old padlock and keys
Those plaques you and the Peaky Dippers found are really cool. Daisy was 'pay attention to meeeeee!!' Love the padlock and old keys are such a fab find!! Nelson supurrvising as always. ❤
@@alexcarle8086 haha spot on Alex!
I love the padlock and key. Old keys are always so intriguing. I think the boat should be called 'Clementine,' because it's orange...
Love it! Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
Simon, Another great video. You always give us some amazing, historical information on your findings. It did upset me a bit when I saw you put the grinding bit on that beautiful old padlock. If you brush the loose rust off, then soak it in white vinegar for a while, it will dissolve the rest and do a great job on the inside as well. Like yourself, I really like those old finds.
Love your new bike hope you have many fun days on it Si x
Nice seeing your Pop, Si! Very sweet ❤
Absolutely Brilliant Mudlark. I really enjoyed this Simon
i think that little orange boat should be named the SS tango, great video by the way.
Love that you show us the cleaned goodies!
Yep, love to restore them considerately. Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
Very entertaining and insightful video Si 😊
Thank you for the fun time and wonderful history of your find!!
Cheers Mudlover! 😊👍🏻👣🧡
I just love all the keys - they are beautiful. Thanks for the padlock history.
I love old keys too!
I LOVE those boat tags especially when they say Thames on it!! Being here in the U.S i would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to have one!!! I would covet it like gold! ❤❤❤
Entertaining as always Si, the padlock came up well as confirmed by the cats, lovely animals.
I'll watch simon when I'm home from history hunting. Unfortunately you premier as I go live from location lol.
Can't wait to watch bro, love ya loads
Your Dad did so well on the bike. I think they are brilliant.😊
The “RV” Peeky Dippers’ Dipper Dinghy
Great video. Love the magnet fishing! Your Dad is so cute....I think he needs a bike. Hey Nelson & Daisy! The padlock cleanup & history was fascinating. You never disappoint 😊
Cheers Thekla!
Great content and I love the padlock. I have a key like the big ne it was my front door key of my 16th century cottage. Still got the lock too.
@@fairyacorn4854 How cool is that!
All those swans and ducks 😮 beautiful to see ❤
Yes and they didn't mind us at all!
