    £20 throttle cable £20 front brake caliper kit £30 rear drum kit with springs and things and a days work for you and loads of UA-cam vids to help. Vw camper van specialist says man with a big rake to me he started it drove it ten yards and that took him a week 😮

    honest Joe , it's probably for the best . taking a vw aircooled with a 2 lt air cooled engine abroad is not something i would do !
    i have owened many of thease busses in the past [ i used to be our local vw specialist ]
    there are a couple of reasons for me saying this .
    1 you don't know how good the engine is [ i would stick to progresivly longer trips to start with .
    2 if you are unfortunatly have mechanical isues you might find that you can't find anyone who knows how to fix it .
    3 even if you do find someone that is willing to fix a broken down old vw aircooled 2l bus , you will be stuck there for weeks waiting for parts to arive .
    [i know this to be true ] as i have sent parts to customers in some of the strangest places in europe . purely because the garage they got stuck at could not even get parts .

    • @DanniandJoe
      @DanniandJoe  Рік тому +1

      Yeah that’s true. It’s the time limit at the end of the trip that really killed it for us, I’ve saved a few aircooled garages that were along the route incase but yeah could add weeks to the trip that we just don’t have. We’ll be planning a few smaller trips with the van for when we’re back

    4 days and not looking at it, plus making such a big deal about a sticking throttle and brakes…. I’d have it out of there quick. Those 2 issues arent major problems for any competent mechanic. Sounds like they’re not that interested. Your biggest issue will always be naysayers working on it. My advice…. A mobile mechanic who will actually work on it instead of someone just glancing at it whilst doing that intake of breath that they’re known for.

    • @colinvanful
      @colinvanful Рік тому

      vw t25 's are quite a bit diferent machine to what a mobile mechanic would be up to fixing TBH,
      looking at where he parked it up at [ next to another vw bus ] the garage hes took it to probably has good knowlege of how thease buses tick :)

      Garages around the county are stacked, especially with Easter approaching. Have owned a classic VW and can't say I ever had a positive experience from garages, it'd always be pushed to the rear of the queue in favor of quick turnaround commercials; brakes, tyres etc. Likewise, reputable mobile mechanics aren't interested in messing around with 30-year-old parts on a driveway. Sadly just something you have to be prepared for if owning a vehicle of this age

    • @Conflictofinterest902
      @Conflictofinterest902 Рік тому

      @@gavinbae7887 exactly, I noticed he pulled up alongside another t25 so figured they’re probably working on that kind of stuff all day. But truth is, like you say, it’ll get pushed around the garage for the easier jobs. They won’t be too bothered about getting it fixed as it’s just a long line day in day out and they’re not worried about holiday deadlines etc. regarding mobile mechanics, you’re right, but they might find someone among the fan pages that know them inside out and will happily spend a week sorting it out (as opposed to it being parked for a week) they might even have spares in their garage and can get hold of tie rod ends quicker than the garage who says they’re on back order.
      Having said that, at least they’re having new fuel lines as that would be job number one for me, followed by a new throttle cable and pedal and overhauling the brakes.

    • @Conflictofinterest902
      @Conflictofinterest902 Рік тому

      @@Conflictofinterest902 Yes, will be a decent running van once sorted properly. Can't go setting unrealistic goals and being disappointed when it doesn't work out as planned. Fuel lines, carburettor service, anything rubber, brakes, timing etc should have been priority no.1. I agree, likely someone local to him that would take a look at it, though, would need looking at by an established garage initially to give a good once over
