Probably the wish of any guitar or bass player is to hear James Hetfield say, "Wow, you're good." Rob is so humble yet such a beast!
Imagine hearing it from Dimebag or Vinnie.
@@daBEAGLE1017 I would prefer hearing it from James Hetfield or Dave Mustaine
@@scall899 too bad Jaime is rhythm axe.
Not that impressive. Few pull offs that's it
@@daBEAGLE1017 praise God James is rhythm axe. He's awesome.
“You should do a bass solo like that, you should just fucking do that”
*do it, listen to James*
yeah, don't rub it off, do it man.
Lars walks in.
Talks about himself for 531 mins before taking credit for the bass solo. Fires Rob.
@@brookinghouseof9457 wow another lars hater … how original 🙄🙄
lol
@@brookinghouseof9457 Napster still butt hurts?
Imagine the joy of hearing the band's guitarist saying you should play a bass solo. That's respect.
es un empleado que no grabó un album bueno
I love how such a BEAST on stage is so humble off stage. This is not the first time James has expressed how impressed he is with something Rob is doing. What a gift to Metallica he is!!!
They don't want to repeat the hyena style years long hazing of Jason
I think they feel bad about it but don't want to admit it. They treated him like dirt only because they couldn't deal with 'replacing' Cliff
@CastAirLead you do know he’s been in the band the longest right 😂
@CastAirLead Jason will be remembered for no one ever hearing his bass or his dead on arrival band post Metallica.
@CastAirLead James and Lars are the creative force in that band. Even Kirk admitted that in the Metallica docu. One of reasons why they fired Dave Mustang so early. Too many chiefs not enough Indians.
@CastAirLead he actually has more song contributions (credits) than Jason.
James saying he should do a solo… he was giving him a blessing. For him to offer a bass solo was his way of saying “cliff would be proud we went with you”
Just 20 years too late
You forgot the end of the quote...
"But he was still better"... lol
Right. Words Bro. That was a great moment.
So Cliff would be proud they chose Rob but not Jason? Just like they chose Rob, they chose Jason. He gave one fucking hell while giving another a fair shake. Stop using Cliffs memory as a weapon.
Personable, humble, and with mad chops. Rob was exactly what Metallica needed.
That's exactly what Metallica is well put
Yep.. a hired gun with no ideas..
@@JPR17 he wrote two of the best riffs on DM but OK
@@plasmakitten4261 oh yeah.. a classic!!!!
@@JPR17 DM is a really good album. Also, someone who can play pretty much any bassline they want but doesn't need the spotlight is exactly what Metallica needed. James and Lars drive almost all of the songwriting and have huge personalities, while Kirk writes some riffs, makes some of the best solos of all time, and is a chill presence. Rob fits in perfectly.
Well, Trujillo is an accomplished flamenco guitarist also, not to mention a Suicidal Tendancies alum. Mike Muir just knew how to pick great bassists.
He's the only one I can stand
@@jesusthinksyourestupid2538 Same, ever since I saw them at Mohegan and Mike is saying dumb shit like fuck Trump, when he's the guy we need and want. Maybe he just needed a Pepsi...but to influence others into that demented way of thinking is unforgivable.
He tries to play flamenco but believe me he is not a flamenco player
He is an average bass player and certainly not a flamenco guitar player.
@@sotirzvanidjubre4109 Well, he is a flamenco guitar player.
Metallica still sucks.
Corny ass band.
Excellent idea James had. Bass solo !! Can't ***ing wait
Bass solo "take 2"?
@@daBEAGLE1017 definitely.
They need to give Rob his moment to shine, closest thing we got is manunkind
This video is from 2009 or 2010 xD
I don't understand why Rob never did good bass solos in concert. Play five or six minutes like Jason or Burton did.
Would love to hear a really bass heavy record or at least some more songs by metallica where it takes a more dominant position in the mix . No question Rob has the skills. Maybe mix in some really aggressive slap from infectious grooves era. Animals as leaders makes it work in an aggressive manner that would fit their style
Right, like Mudvayne too
Rob is so talented he can dominate many styles.
It's such a shame he doesn't do any bass slap in his Metallica work
@@HeavyRaiden not in their albums but he has in his live bass solos
@@samuelsuggs9751 Yeah I've seen it, that's cool
What a surprise.
One of the best bass players out there & James is shocked he's in his band.
The noodle Rob lays is nothing but a warm up for someone like him.
Off the top of my head,Rob, Cliff,Flea & the dude from primus.
Some of the best fingers playing bassist out there
The “dude” from primus?? Mr Les Claypool
@@eternaltol yeah Les claypool.
Not a fan but respect his chops
Add Geezer Butler to that, and you've got my top 5 favorite bassists
Thats Les Claypool from Primus lol and yes but what about Jaco..wooten,lee,entwhistle? They should be named off the top also 😆
@@Ninjametaland al cisneros !
Rob’s bass line in the song “Go Skate” by Suicidal Tendencies is one of my favorites of all time. If you haven’t heard it yet go check it out!
Thank you!! Immediately added to my gym playlist.
Rob is a great bass player, Jason played bass well but had charsima, stage presence amazing vocals and made metallica a real force to be reckoned with.
@@zippydooda Some of the half cocked comments on here can make you crazy
still butthurt over jason. he was a whiny punk and now plays country western covers for a living.
I also heard he crushes coconut in one hand!
He was such a badass in Suicidal Tendencies.
It's a shame they never gave Jason the respect he deserves. At least they treat Robert with respect.
Agreed. Jason stepped up in Metallica while James and Lars walked all over him. They're children. And the fans could see it.
Ever since infectious groves Robs been in my top 5 of all time bass players
it was asleep at the wheel for me
James hetfield looks so metallic in his beard his voice and those instrumental riffs he makes is still amazing big fan of James since 20 yrs
I love Robert! Such a nice and warm-hearted person!
I really hope the next album(s) Metallica puts out have more room for Rob to have fun
Genius songwriters who worked with symphony orchestras: “after the riff stomps you can go blublublublublua”
Of course he is good! Why hiring and keeping him in the band otherwise?! When he was playing with Osborne he was good too.
But Jason's stage presence was greater.
And Cliff Burton's technique was greater.
@@HavocMusic1759 I see Rob as a good middle ground between the two.
Jason's stage presence was dorky, embarrassing, and cringe worthy. And his frog voice, good god it's awful. He's to blame for influencing people into all these non-metal "metal" things.
He's mislead the metal community for ages, even though he was never a part of it. He's a poseur who is overcompensating for his lack of metal personality.
It's like watching someone who doesn't know how to swim use 110% effort in the pool. It's just a mess of nonsense.
Cliff was the best, bar none. Talent, stage presence, everything. We heard exactly how much you should hear from a bassist, from Cliff. Jason never understood his role.
@@adameves5970 good one! I had a good laugh. thanks bro
@@adameves5970 Newsted dorky? While Trujillo is doing his crab walk plus that gay spin he does lol. Newsted not metal? When he was in Metallica and played on Justice plus Black as well as he's played with Ozzy plus Flotsam and Jetsam.....Jason Newsted ruled that stage as well was Metal as F*ck!
"You shold make solo like that" - the words Jason never heard in metallica
Hetfield:
Never heard that since cliff :0
While being a funny, cool little video, it also illustrates the problem with the Metallica dynamic. Rob is a beast of a bass player. So when hearing something like that, James goes you should do that while doing your bass solo, instead of hey, that would really work in this part of a song I'm working on, or we could build something around that. They have so much talent in him that they don't utilize.
you conclude all of that from that few seconds? wow!
@@efwewfwef1549 Not just from the video but from the lack of his true potential being displayed on the albums.
"The problem with Metallica"? They're just fine, don't worry.
@@Brandonmtlhd you're stating facts. I be watching their rehearsal videos ... at times I feel like Trujillo keeps back from showing his true potential. It can probably sense the hate from the other members. James sounded like a jealous kid first giving him a compliment only to minic his playing with a sarcastic remark. And fuckin Lars keeps that band from any real progression as I feel they have to adjust to his basic uninspired drumming.
Maybe...but what you're missing is that Metallica's formula is James and Lars. That's what works. James comes up with riffs, Kirk adds a few and Lars arranges. Rob is an amazing Bass player but I'm not sure he's much of a song writer. People tend to forget that what they love about a band like Metallica is based on Lars and James (and Dave) who build this thing. Every time they tried to fix what wasn't broken caused them problems.
i love how james has grown n it makes you wonder if he hadnt been the way he was with jason newstead how far he coulda went but rob is a truly magnificent artist he can play a mean guitar as well id love to hear him jam on an electric the way he can play a flamingo guitar he has to be awesome on a six string electric
I remember cliff burton and jason newsted's hair when playing bass
Rob has the same amount of hair that they did
It amazes me that they went to so much trouble to hire one of the greatest bassists working today. I assumed at the time it was because they realized the error they made on AJFAand planned to make the most of such a superb talent. He's been in the band for so long now and to the best of my knowledge they've yet to record a single really bass-heavy thrash song. I'd love to know how much he's really involved in the writing.
This. They could pick any bassist out there, so they took a top guy off the market & wasted him.
Imagine being Jason, seeing this for the first time
“After the riff stops, you should just do the bl’bll’ll’bblll’bl’lllel’bl’el’lll’b’bll’el!”
Lmao
i hoped so hard that somebody wrote that down. Thanks!
this was Rob's auditions for the band...fantastic piece of history at play here if you watch the entire week of auditions...
and stil playing the same songs of master, kill ride, justice an black album
I would love to hear another bass solo on a Metallica album. I know it won't happen but I dream...
They gave him a million dollars when he joined the band, like that isn’t the dream of all musicians. Metallica achieved such greatness that they were able to give a million dollar joining bonus and the bass player achieved such greatness that he was offered a million dollar joining bonus, that’s a full circle dream that every musician wishes they could achieve.
Not all of us. There are heights and accomplishments far bigger than metallica
@@travisgoesthere • It’s just a generalized statement, I realize that “not all” musicians in the entirety of the world have the exact same dream.
@@travisgoesthere what could you possibly achieve" as a musician" thats higher then what Metallica has achieved?
@@travisgoesthere please enlighten us with elaboration of your thought. What height is left for the biggest band in the history to reach? But okay, everyone is entitled to have an opinion, even really stupid ones. :d
@@Armin.89 I am a metallica fan and have been since the early 80's. They arent the biggest band ever. They did well for themselves for sure , but as a musician my standards of musicianship are a bit higher than yours are obviouslly. Of course you are entitled to your opinion and I am happy that you understand that it's a stupid one.
“Wow, you’re good”
Charles Berthoud enters chat…..
Yep, he's the best I've ever seen. I can't believe why that other guy has more than 10 million subs, while Charles, who is way better, has only 1 million subs appr. smh
He doesn't bring the same passion to the band Jason did and it reflects in the sales of every new release.
"You should make a solo"
Then proceeds to give 0 creative impact to trujillo
Sounds like the intro of the first song in the infectious grooves debut.
Tbh he was probably just being supportive and positive since Metallica had issues with their last bassist and this was back when Hetfield had been through rehab.
Great bassist. I love his tone out of the Mesa and HiWatt combination. It’s really clanky though and not very clean. But that’s the style he plays. Not a fan of that clank. But he’s amazing
I love how a 33 second video has a 15 second commercial before it.
BEAST ON THE BASS💪💪🤘🤘🤘
Cool dude. I want to see him live! Saw Metallica back in the Jason days, which was still freaking awesome!
i like how Rob just goes "ahah, forget it" like he just did something stupid instead of something remarkable, and James is totallly flabbergasted
he just smiles it off. Damn humility at its finest
St anger era bass auditions, James telling Rob that he just makes the band play better after the audition. They picked the right guy .
"That's it man". Every artist in every media chases that feeling like the sweet heroin level addiction it is. Fame doesn't matter. Making good art does. Nice to see a reminder of that.
for ever the best cliff burton and jason newsted
😂😂😂 you be funny.
Good video awesome song rock
And all that for not hearing the bass in the upcoming albums. What a shame
They definitely choose the right guy back in 2002/2003
James should pick up an Infectious Grooves album sometime.
Sigo prefiriendo a Jasos Newsted... por el estilo mas acorde al metal... Rob con esas poleras de basquetball no pega con la banda aun despues de tantos años
I love that..... "Wow! You're good."
Understatement of the millennium.
We miss you Jason and we remember moscow 91:)
thats awesome. as much as I think gene simmons from KISS is a bit of a dork I still think that he was very underestimated as a bass player. Not my fave by a long shot but what that guy played reminded me of gene Simmons style of playing bass. just my 2 cents. cheers !
You guys having fun making cool shit for next musical adventure is what the FUCKING METALLICATS is what life is all about keep up the fantastic sounds I love everything about METALLICA you should make a song called. (Bologna in hand) just an idea

Rob is miles ahead of anyone in this band.
I dunno, Kirk is pretty good. James slays on some songs like MOP.

Nah. Overall the most talented member in the band currently is Hetfield by a longshot.
Cap. James is a rhythm god
Have u heard da solo of da guy from manowar on achiles agony?
Rob Trujillo, the lifetime fill-in guy. It’s the constant James and Lars show anyway. They don’t want a musician better than either of them. So James has to “look impressed”
INFECTIOUS GROOVES 🍻🍻🍻

My contractor in SF grew up with James
I guess I'll have to be the one to say it after reading through the comments although Rob is basically a virtuoso on the base and is definitely a beast what he did in this clip was simply average for a bass player definitely not taking anything away from him as a bass player like I said he's a monster but he did nothing monstrous in this clip that everyone is praising
Agree. Also, James comes off as sarcastic here IMO.
I know right? In my experience I have found that a lot of people I know that are huge Metallica fans are NOT musicians lol and therefore don't know what they are talking about.. they just think the faster it is, the more talented you are.
Cliff would be proud of Metallica !!!
como no si es mexicanaso mi rob traijeliou trae el talentaso
en la sangre 🥵
los mejicanos no tienen talento para la musica . el talento de rob es norteamericano 100%
Trujillo is humble, but also embarrassed: “You think THIS is good? Oh my.” Also, praising him like that for his skills shines a weird light on their previous bassists. I don’t know if Jason Newsted is a limited player - he was certainly good enough for Metallica.
Cliff had the musical zen, Jason had the rhythmic chops, but Rob is the package deal. Rob is actually too good for Metallica, imo.
"blurururururur"
-James Alan Hetfield
All the girls he has loved in the past:
Oh hell yeah he is good!!!
Great 👍🏻 awesome God bless Robert
i did not know he played f0r 0zzy i just found that 0ut seen Perry Mason live wow
Aún no he oído algo genial de Trujillo estando en Metallica.
Top 5 all time bassist
I wish I had about a 1/2% of Rob Trujillos ability, I'd be awesome.
He's brilliant at flamenco guitar, i.e. Spanish acoustic guitar
COOL
Possibly the most under utilized talent in metal. They totally could have used Rob to open up some awesome musical doors and arrangement ideas for them and just ignored it under their own ego or inability to break free of their perceived comfort zone. I don’t know anyone who would hear that and not immediately think I’m gonna arrange a song that has some bass breaks in it, that’ll sound that bad ass.
He's like...... I've got no questiins
Rob is the Fuckin man! He’s awesome to see live. Plays with anger.
Wish Rob said "Im available for autographs kids ;)"
I saw a video somewhere of Robert doing amazing flamenco on the acoustic guitar and you know, he just might be a better guitarist than James and Kirk.
i hope he gets to make a solo on album
0:21 You should just go Bllblblblblbllll - James 'Alan" Hetfield 2006 (ish)
...really? THAT impresses him? The bar must be set real low (and I don't understand WHY, since Jason was an awesome bass player as well; completely different to Robert, but great all the same). Trujillo can play stuff way way WAY more intricate than that phrase, which is one of the reasons he is too big of a player for the band. But you know how it goes... money talks.
Anybody else think it still feels like Robert has only joined the Band like a Year ago?
James must see Buckethead playing bass
"You should just... do that"
i would love to see rob playing something like THAT in a metallica song, somethings kinda heavy mixed with flamenco i think? it would be AWESOME
Trujillo is some kind of monster... Hence the album title
No creo, después de conocer a Cliff Burton no creo que alguien lo sorprenda en el bajo.
Why did he fucking stop! Gimme more!
Kinda like he’s a professional musician
Ik right he should be in a band
Cutscene from Some kind of monster. Not rare, it's just from 2004.
I just want metallica to play strange world song it has a lot of bass and vocals which was already done by Iron maiden
Robert is fucking insane when he plays the bass, too much when he is in concert 👌🏽
