- APU unit won't work after trying numerous times. If you have any answers to fix this issue please leave comments below. Thanks so much. If the temperature is below 20° the bunk heater and APU won't start. The temperature got up to 20° and the APU came on and the bunk heater started working. The APU and Buck heater worked for 20 minutes then shut down and won't start up I'm back to square one.

ThermoKing APU's Come with an Espar D2 or D4 heater. It is controlled by the tripac dial with an on/off but it's a separate unit from the APU. It has its own fan and the heater itself is not made by ThermoKing.
If you turn it on and nothing happens, no fan, no response; There is a separate 15amp fuse in your battery box for the heater.
If the fuse is OK, then you have another issue like a bad fuel pump or blower fan and should get that fixed by someone with the tools.
If it tries to start but it Smokes like a bastard or shuts off early that's probably just a normal periodic maintenance and you could do it yourself. Getting it out of the truck is pretty tough though.
The issue I had with my unit was, blower wasn't spinning fuel pump wasn't pumping like its dead. So I checked the fuel pump and problem was there, 2 wire plug that plugs into the fuel pump 1 wire was broken. I fixed the wire, then heater worked like it should.

My Espar d2 was working perfectly fine until it started smoking so I did the maintainance and hook it back up and no smoke nothing someone said to use kerosene it'll clean it up more so I went got kerosene hook it up to fuel pump then I see it's trying to pull kerosene halfway it stops and the system went all dead. No fan movement nothing. I check fuel pump and fan with separate 12v it's good. Checked fuses in thermoking box they're good but I didn't check the fuse u mentioned in battery box. I'll do that tomorrow hopefully it's that cuz I'm not trynna goto T-king they'll rape me lol.
@@truckomize9326don't ever use a different type of fuel that what is required for whatever the piece of machinery is. Running kerosene without lubricant probably damaged your injector pump.
@nevergiveupnevergivein7655 you're absolutely right. I think I toasted the computer or locked it after trying to run it multiple times. I got another d2 from ebay and been working fine

Dude! I had the same problem! The AC and fan works but not my heat. After the reset AND flipping a few switches on my dash that say (spare) it worked! Now I'm cooking! Thank you brother you saved me some $

Everything you did was correct the APU does not turn on for the heater. After your wavy lines are solid wait for about 5 minutes and you start to hear the heater mortar running
your method of building up voltage by turning on air conditioning solved my problem. thanks

Any drivers having a problem with this, check to see if anything is blocking the air intake for the bunk heater. The air intake is inside the side box on the same side that the APU unit is on your truck.

Thanks man i was having issues getting mine on i must have bumped the switch on the dash
Im in a pete 579 and it would start blowing and the apu would start but it would stop blowing after a couple of minutes even with the apu still running. But i noticed that once the volts reached 14.0-14.1 it started workin again. Dont know if this will help but i hope it does.

You have to start your Espar or Webasto bunk heater once a month and let it run for 30 minutes even in summer time so the fuel won’t get old in the system and clog up the system and then when you really need it when it gets cold, won’t work
Just run the AC in the summer. Runs off the same system.
I have 2017 Freightliner & it didn't have switch at front dashboard
Just hit it a couple of times from above (bunk heater) and it will work. Probably needs to be cleaned.

Had to do this with my 2023 Freightliner.
Seems like they designed something that should have been simple into something difficult. You would think the heat would be for the heater and the cold cold but nope. They even made a knob for the fan and then to confuse you put one on the other side
I clean air filter (think may engine lost air and can’t run properly) but in ac move is work )
I'm cold in Rawlins Wyoming and my heater is only coming on for about 3 minutes and then it stops blowing and it won't come on again until I turn the power off then back on again this is getting old!

Mine it drives me crazy. First time I did air blow the exhaust,then worked for few days.
Then changed the glow pilot it worked for few days then changed the glow pilot again it worked all that December and January 2024 .
Now is 2-13-24 is not working again it did work the 3 night before no problem.
It’s driving me crazy.
I have a small heater now for back up . But it keeps the APU engine running because sucks to much power .after I posted this comment I couldn’t stop thinking about the dam thing.
I did take the glow pin out again and just did blow some air I that hole,then put everything together so fare it’s working

I'm having the same problems. Even put it in the shop and it the heat still won't come on
APUs are shit. Made to fail so you have to take them to the dealership.
Many folks replaced them with a gas generator and ran line into cab for power to heat. Later they bought an inside a/c to cool and drilled a water vent line hole.
My Apu comes on but doesn't blow any warm at all...
it is 18 degrees right now and dropping... I cannot find any help on this internet anywhere....

The heater fan blows hot air non stop on minimum. I wake up at night that is very hot in can and want to drink, after that can't sleep well enough. How you guys sleep when Heater at work?
@@mentalamusementpark thank you for reply. When I turn between red and blue the heater fan works so loudly and it's getting very hot. I turned to left end so it's minimal, it works quite. Also I opened Ventilation next to heater fan I hope it won't bother anymore
There is no temperature regulator for the bunk heater. You turn it on when it's too cold to be comfortable. Turn it off when it's too hot to be comfortable.

Carrier apu is less complicated then thermo

No. It's basically just turn it on and off. He doesn't actually get his working. But, the method does work for some.
Yeah, mines blowing out heat and then it won’t. I’ve tried resetting it I’ve tried everything I don’t know what else to do and it’s only 50° but I get cold really easy so it’s freezing to me so if anyone else has any ideas on how to help me please.😂😂😂😂
Keep resetting it over and over until it works.
Apu system is a joke, poor design.
Call an electrician.
