Bro... I've been trying for almost a week to figure out why my apu turns on only when it wants to. You are the first person to say it HAS to be in AC and HAS to have the fan on. It's 12 degrees out here so thank you so much. I needed this.
This video may be 6 years old but it helped me greatly new owner operator here and I have a APU wouldn't sure how to work at all. That's standby mode will come in very handy for me thanks so much.
Dam bro my dumb ass should of looked this up a long time ago! Thank you so much! I was freezing my ass of and couldn’t get a good nights sleep. I kept having to get up and turn the dam truck on then stay up till it got warm in my truck! Its currently 17 degrees out here in Missouri. Thanks again bro!
Incorrect Mikey. The unit will still blow cold with the fan nob on the off position. To all you that actually read the comments please know that the fan nob only operates the speed of the fan it when blowing cold air. The off position only works when the heat is on that's it. Also know that there is a toggle switch on the dash somewhere so that you are able to turn the unit off from up front too. I guess Mikey bought his at a garage sale.
Our APUs are connected directly to the batteries not to the truck therefore when we turn the main battery switch off the APU will still run however all the power to the truck will turn off and you are correct about the refrigerator that will turn off because thats connected to the truck so yes you would have to remove everything out of the fridge. The main reason we have our drivers turn off the main battery switch off is because we have qualcomms in our trucks and they ping every 5 mins and they will kill the batteries and the APU will run all day to keep batteries charged. Your also right about this feature not being in all the trucks we also own Petes and boy I wish we had this feature on them. This feature is great when you have a sensor malfunction or some electronic problem most of the time by switching it off then on clears the problem and saves you time from taking it to the dealer.
that was very nice explanation and i appreciated it. i learned something from you, the only thing i want to know is what position is the fan on when u leave it stand by and u wanna go home for awhile , am not very much familiar with tripak apu, mine sometimes stops itself and show a diagram of battery like square, what is that mean also
I'm not sure what's wrong with this guys unit but every time you turn your truck on the unit automatically goes to stand buy and the fan goes to the off position there is also a toggle switch on the dash so if you are going to take a few days off and you don't want the a/c running but you have a few things in the refrigerator all you have to do is leave the toggle switch on and the power nob on the fan position and that will keep the batteries charged and the refrigerator running. I'm not sure why this guy is telling us to turn the power switch by the driver seat off to the truck? First of all not everyone has a Freightliner, you won't find a power switch like that on a Pete, second. If the apu is supposed to keep everything charged then why must you turn that switch off? Keep in mind , if you do have a Freightliner and you have a refrigerator and you leave food in there as you take a few days off know that if you turn that power switch off to the truck the unit will not be able to keep the refrigerator running because you basically turned all power off to the truck ,like a breaker box , so therefore you just turned off the apu. Lol. Mikey has been misinformed
I don’t understand why so many people needed help with there apu. Why leave the yard where you pick up your truck with out asking how to use the apu? Wow! Just a few simple questions and some of you wouldn’t be freezing or burning up out here. Some dumb shit!
Very informative. I was freezing my behind in Northern California and sweating in arizona. Thanks to this video i learned how to operate the apu.

The fan should be "OFF" when setting system on Stand By.

Mines not working, does the key need to be on acc?
The ignition key should be in off position or else the unit will not come on.
You just saved me in the winter out here I’ve been freezing to death in my truck
Ikr
Worst invention ever
