We've seen Willie 4 or 5 times and every time we saw him, it was so clear that he absolutely loved what he was doing.

I lived in Austin Tx in the early 70's and used to see Willie for free all over town. Those were the days!!

By sheer serendipity, I had a chat with Willie in 1987 in an empty bar in Las Vegas at 1:00 in the morning. Just the two of us talking fishing and stuff. What you see here is what I met. Real beyond expectation, and a high point of my life. An American treasure.

Red Rocks is in Colorado, just outside Denver, which you may already know. I went to my first concert there in 1976, sat front row and saw Crosby Stills and Nash. If you don’t know of Red Rocks you should Google it and take a peek. Of course it’s totally different now and is no longer worth going, but back then it was open seating and the space per person was about 4 times what it is now. We’d get there early in the day and stake our our spot and spend the day partying in the sun. Tickets were reasonably priced then too, about $20, which was still pricey for the time but nothing compared to what you pay for concerts today! I saw so many concerts there back in the day.

@@sharonh2991 during the 70s I was a touring musician so I rarely got to go to concerts. However, we took time off to go to the Waylon and Willie bicentennial bash. I’m glad we did. The red rocks sounds like it was a good time. Many of those concerts were awesome…lol…I. Know because I played at a few.😎

My favorite Willie Nelson song is The City of New Orleans although he didn’t write it, but he did make it a No.1 country hit and Grammy award winner. If you read his background Willie Nelson came up the old school hard knocks American way. It’s no wonder that behind his endearing grin and heartwarming music you can see a don’t f with me cast in his eyes and at the corner of his lips. Truly an American Legend before computers and ultra greed obliterated that notion.

I remember when Willie Nelson first came on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, that proved he was up and coming star No? I was skeptical “That guy? No way he’s going to be famous, he’s an old man” All I can say is that i was not trying to predict the future, gray hair just made me biased. So glad for Willie’s longevity and the richness of his contribution to the world.

First, Johnny Carson and Willie Nelson are two of my favorites. So, I'm not sure that the "worst interview he ever did" comment is fair. I think Carson was obviously more comfortable with regular Hollywood types, but he tried his best. That comes out especially when Carson gives praise to "Stardust." My favorite Willie album. What's yours? Remember, Willie looked kind of freaky for that time. So give The Tonight Show respect for booking him. And Willie seemed pretty comfy. He's possibly impossible to rattle.
