Amen! As I wrote elsewhere in reply to Carson's interview of Ronald Regan, I'm a Trump supporter, but I have a terrible lack of respect for the manner in which Donald Trump talks to people. Hopefully Trump has learned from his first four-year tour as President. I do believe Trump has the intelligence, the will power and the work ethic to do good work. I pray that Trump wins in November 2024, and I pray he proves to be over his final four years in the White House the best President the United States has ever had. It stands out like a sore thumb compared to today. Today it's "You're on the team or you're not, and if you're not, I will destroy you!" In 1975 we could discuss things rationally without having to destroy each other's lives due to a disagreement.

Conservatism has destroyed our middle class (although as California's governor, he was actually pretty liberal). And Reagan was suffering from dementia probably around 1984. BUT - it's pretty clear in this vid why he was so popular as a politician. At this point in 1975, Reagan had been public speaking for almost 40 years. He was smooth, glib, and good looking. President Reagan was a great and lovely man. He was kind and I believe honest, because in 44 years I've NEVER heard otherwise. And even though the mainstream media never talked about it, he was known for his great sense of humor! Sometimes you could see glimpses of it when he was speaking publicly. 😃 He was always polite and well-composed, a shining example of his generation, known as "America's Greatest Generation". ❤️🙏 🇺🇸🦅

And as a consequence he was roundly laughed at by liberal politicians as being an airhead bereft of intellect and inherently evil because he was conservative. Pat Brown was a good example. He was essentially Hilary Clinton during his 3rd campaign for Governor, making fun of Reagan and not taking him seriously because after all, no one was going to elect a B-actor with no political experience. Brown was so smug and cynical toward Reagan's candidacy that he took a scene from one of Reagan's movies and exploited it to tell a 9-year-old kid that Reagan shot Abraham Lincoln. Can't make this up. I'm old enough to remember this.
Reagan simply went about his business despite all the personal attacks, maintained his good humor and saved his criticisms of the opposition for when it would land solidly. He was not only smart and politically savvy, his lifelong experience as a Democrat before switching parties a few years before his run for Governor gained a lot of support from Democrat voters in California, and it resulted in a landslide victory in a state in which Democrats outnumberd Republicans 3-2. He was a man of substance and impeccable character, and a man who welcomed being underestimated by his detractors. They did so at their peril, and that's ultimately why Reagan never lost an election.

History is written by the victors. Reagan was a warmongering piece of trash who did the bidding of the parasitical elites. His "tear down this wall" speech was theater and he was definitely not responsible for the fall of communism. It was due to the Polish citizens and their leader, Lech Walesa, Nobel Peace Prize winner who started the movement which spread throughout the SU. Although I am an anti-communist, I must say that the peoples of the former soviet union suffered enormously right after the fall. Oligarchs stole all the wealth and left the countries in ruins. Teenage girls were selling themselves on the streets of Prague for five American dollars so they could feed their parents. I used to say that Americans had a short memory, however, today it is obvious that Americans have no memory at all. No common sense or capacity to think either. You can thank Reagan for the abysmal state of education in California with his Proposition 13 which has a significant impact on the outrageous home prices of today in California.

Wishing I could step back in time and watch this on the TV in my grandparents farmhouse when it was aired back in the mid/late 70’s, God rest their souls. So nice to see a respectful and thoughtful discourse, it just doesn’t happen anymore. We’re such a divided nation. God help us all.
“There’s enough fat in the federal government, that if you rendered it, you could wash the whole world.”
Spot on, Mr. Reagan, and that statement is far truer today than it ever was in 1976, though it was absolutely very true, even back then. If we have enough money to send BILLIONS to other countries while the cost of our federal debt interest payments are second only to the cost of Social Security, then taxes are too high. It’s that simple. I don’t want to hear the government telling me that there’s nothing there when it comes time for me to collect my Social Security after I’ve paid into it my entire adult life while I’ve seen them send billions upon billions upon billions to foreign countries such as Ukraine or Israel with NO OVERSIGHT WHATSOEVER and they’ve opened our borders wide to illegal immigrants while housing them and giving them $2k a month while disabled American veterans are either dying on the streets or can’t get disability for service connected disabilities, but that’s where we’re headed, and that’s taxation without representation or recompense. Revolutions have been started for far less. I’m sick and tired of the “elites” pissing all over the very AMERICAN people they’re supposed to be representing while enriching themselves and making their constituents poorer and more miserable.
