He was throughout his career of course. He is to me a deep thinking man, who had his heart broke when he was a child several times , but didnt allow it to make him a mean bitter adult man. Mr Winters to me comes across as very kind. When he had that painting of hunters, and him ssying..."look what your doing to them(animals,") it was a revelation abiut his heart really. He was in some respects too good for this world. He is the G.O.A.T

I loved when he said each piece was $25,000 dollars. At the time Salvatore Dali was drawing on napkins for waitress, and someone asked him what he wanted for the 3 lines on the napkin. Dali said, $25,000, and the admirer said go screw yourself!
So Dali ate the napkin so no one could have it.

My Dad was on a flight out of LAX back in the 70's, when Jonathan Winters boarded his plane. He didn't go sit in First Class, he walked back to Econo & sat across the row from my Dad. They started talking about working in Hollywood (my Dad worked at CBS when Television was first coming out but Radio was still going strong) so they were laughing about different T.V. & Film stars they both worked with....when Jonathan went into character and he entertained all the passengers for the entire flight! When he could have sat in First Class with sunglasses on to hide his face...he joined the average traveler and had the plane in hysterics! Dad talked about that experience til the day he died. It one of many memories Dad shared with that generation of celebrities that were real and very giving.

I remember seeing this when it originally aired. I was laughing so hard I woke my wife up. she started laughing right along when she realized what she was seeing which Honestly has been a really good source of happiness for me ever since I lost my wife so many years ago which infact broke me to pieces so seeing comments like this makes me smile.

I can't believe I'm a decade older now than those two then. I grew up watching that generation on TV.
It's also interesting to compare this interview to what you see on late night shows these days. Winters comes out and they actually have a conversation, some of it entertaining, some of it not that much. These days, the host would have one or two points that he's supposed to hit and the guest is prepared to talk about, then they'd go over the guest's newest project, and that would be it.

The Perp was a six time DUI offender from south of the Rio Grande with no papers and they weren't lost. @@jamesedwards2237 In my humble opinion Craig Ferguson was 2nd best, my O’l lady and I started watching him from 2006 or so all the way until he decided to end his tenure, something that perhaps was best thing to do for him since all those feminists “offended” groups started complaining that he was a creep, I’m certain he sensed all of the above, In reality he’s humor was unique, timing unique, he was best at getting those pretty actresses to open up talk to him and flirt, he was a master class.
My wife prefers Craig over Johnny and I totally understand, he is a charming talented man.

I was around in the late 60s/early 70s and it was almost impossible to get a DUI .The cops would follow you home to make sure you made it ok or let anyone in the car who was even the slightest bit less drunk take over driving. My buddy wrecked his car on the town square of the little town we lived in and was blistered on Boone's Farm and "ludes" and didn't get a dui. It was crazy how lenient law enforcement was...until the Mad Mothers started speaking out a few years later.
