- Our timing finds us on the brink of Cadillac’s total transition to being a fully electric brand. But in order for that to happen, there has to be a first, and it’s the Cadillac LYRIQ EV SUV. So, is this the start of something truly special or just the same Cadillac tune updated for a modern audience? #Cadillac #CadillacLYRIQ # LYRIQ

John Davis is a Legend!
He can’t be; he’s not dead.
@@mikek5298 you don't have to be dead to called a legend long career is enough and this guy has been hosting this show for 41 seasons
Motorweek without John, is not motorweek
I looked on PBS and motorweek wasn't there, but I grew up watching it for years!
Always will be
Cadillac FINALLY actually built a showcar! Bravo! Makes ANY other SUV look old-fashioned.
Gorgeous car!! Cadillac should be proud of the interior/exterior design. A+
I love the fact that the first ones are fully loaded with the only options being wheels and interior/exterior colors. That's how every car should be! In the long run, it keeps manufacturing costs down overall.
The fact that options and packages cost extra are due to there being multiple things for the same component. Do you get the base sound system, or upgrade to the Bose, or upgrade further to the B&O? That means they spent tons of money researching, developing, designing, and implementing all three systems in order for each to be functional in the vehicle. Each will come from a different supplier, and each will need room in the factory in storage and on the assembly floor - which also adds extra cost. That's just one thing, the stereo. You can say the same for tons of other things within a car. With the hundreds of possible combinations of options in some cars, that creates the need for multiple configurations for the electrical wiring harnesses - more cost.
If every car came with the options as standard, in the long run the costs can be much lower to manufacture and therefore negate the need to upcharge for everything that most everyone wants anyways. The only thing optional should be aesthetics driven, and then give us more choices of interior colors - other than black and gray - and materials.
If you don't need a heated steering wheel or seats, great, don't turn that feature on. Just know you're helping everyone else in the colder climates not have to pay extra for needing the $1500 climate package.
I hate fully loaded cars. It's just more shit to break and a lot of features I don't want or need.
Definitely Caddi's best looking crossover to date. Nice to see more EVs hitting the market too.
OMG so niiiice.
I grew up with cadillacs. I ve owned two cadillacs as an adult. The Cadillac EV just leap over its competition. I want one!
@@Slavic_Boer Be careful...Greta will find you if you say that too loud...
@@Slavic_Boer Not if you have your own renewable energy source system in your home to charge your electric car. Also, car companies should have (And I'm assuming they have) proper programs in place to responsibly dispose of lithium components at end of lifecycle and recycle other materials that can be reused.
@@petervitti9 Cadillac always seems 2B lacking something. I think the name came from as many Cs and Ls they could get in for lights and chrome. Plus it's going 2 take another year if not 2 for full production so that us mortals can own or even test drive 1.
John Davis! Still at it! Awesome!!
Simulated leather is called vinyl.
THANK YOU!
It’s not tho…it wears better than leather and is damn nice…unlike vinyl
Why don't they just put the brakes and gas on the wheel
When you’re paying this much money you should get leather!
I'd rather have cloth, anyway.
Finally. An EV that doesn't look like an EV.
Glad to hear John Davis’ voice again!
I've never been a cadillac fan but I must say they did good on this one. My only dislike is the exposed cup holders but pracatically every manufacture does that now.
The Cadillac ELR that I mentioned in my comment above had a wonderful electric cover that just went right over them.
The Original Car Show…💯
Thank you John D. 🙏🏾
That certainly looks damned promising for the money.
There will always be something missing now that Goss has passed.
John is the LEGENDARY man
Looks great. The only thing the bugs me about the Lyriq is the jerky motion of the door hiding the plug-in ( 2:10 ). I have seen this on other Lyrics too, so I hope Cadillac corrects this soon.
Why is Vegan Leather not called what it really is, Vegan Vinyl!
It's marketing. Plastic is just as destructive. There are literal plant based options but still too expensive because the research hasn't convinced manufacturers to mass produce it.
@@robertnicholls9917 Exactly - people think they are being friendlier to the environment by getting these vegan "leather" seats but, like you said, it's just plastic which is made from good 'ole petroleum.
@@planetfabulous5833 It's all virtue signaling. It's so these people can smugly self-validate when they tell their friends about it
They did say that leather will be available next year.
Glad Cadillac is "FINALLY" starting to use real names again like Lincoln instead of that alphanumeric crap.
Sure, but now all their cars are big crossover golf carts...
I’m a Toyota guy, but this Cadillac has me wanting to cross over to domestic. Reason being, this looks like a Cadillac product from the 50s- 80s. Such a modern yet old feel. Cadillac is back after a 30 year hiatus y’all ❤️
No. First of all, I'm glad to have john hosting for us👏 Now I'm amazed by this suv, that's saying a lot since i don't like this kind of vehicles.
the commercial for this car!! is good!!
Man, I want this car. Great job Cadillac
I just can’t get over that junky charging door. What in the heck is up with that? What other quality issues will it have?
Plus it doesn’t go down far enough so you can see the charger hitting it and eventually will rub the paint off the top
Many, it's a first gen GM product. Pair that with the current economy and you get the idea.
I could see why Cadillac would go full EV because “Quiet & Powerful” But for GM to have built the GM EV1 they should’ve been light years ahead by now.
GM was ahead of the game then and let that project slip down the drain. Even if they didn't want to let people keep theirs, they should have continued development of the electric motor/battery platform which by the end of the leases would have made significant improvements. Then let those customers have the option of bringing their EV1s back in for the upgrade to the next generation system which would have meant lighter weight, faster charge, longer distance, and more power. But no, they just crushed them all.
@@joe6096 True and if you’ve noticed GM always ruins a good thing.
Gas was like 88¢ a gallon when GM pulled the plug on that program. They learned plenty from that development. So much so that Honda will be rebadging GM electric vehicles. It just wasn't the right time for Americans to embrace EVs.
@@metrawatt 24 years later.. My point is that It should’ve been in the works..
@@metrawatt and KIA took their name GM waited so long!.. this isn’t the first time gas prices are high..
That's a nice looking car.
"Just" $60,000. People that talk about cars are SO out of touch with the average person now.
But this car isn’t for the average person. It’s a Cadillac and, therefore, presumably for the top wage earners.
The average new car sales price has topped $40k, so people are still buying at these prices. The fit and finish are better than that price would suggest, according to multiple reviewers
@@1997nick Yep and in 2021, it was over $47k. So for the Lyriq to be $60k, fully deserves the "just"
I absolutely love this all-new Cadillac Lyriq.
RIP to Pat Goss
Lovely! I have a Tesla Y LR and it's a fantastic car. But the Lyriq is stylish and the tactile controls bring back the fun of knob twiddling and switch flicking. Nice one! :)
42 years love da show avid member ❤
John Davis is immortal.
And the electricity to charge these vehicles is 80% from burning fossil fuel.
So true!
And solar pannels as well...
Yep, though they're more efficient at using it. But it's still a good reason to not force EV conversion until we have a appropriate grid
This thing is a home run. Great job Cadillac!
That's what people were saying when the Cadillac Cimarron was unveiled.
I would have bought one except these days with the inflated prices, an average family spends on groceries per month, would just about equal what the car would cost during a five-year loan to pay for it.
So many haters. Cadillac will probably lose all of you as customers, but in your place they will capture an entirely new group of customers, who aren't allergic to electricity.
they deserve the hate. If this car leaves them stranded for lack of charging then what the hell is the point of this car?
@@pontiacGXPfan Oh yeah, because it's totally impossible for gasoline cars to leave you stranded, right?
If someone is so dumb that they can't take a look at the battery gauge before setting off, they shouldn't be driving at all.
I’ve driven a Leaf since 2013. My garage has two 240V/50A circuits ready to go. I won’t own a Tesla because Elon doesn’t know how to spell quality. The Lyric is interesting but I cant see myself owning a GM vehicle for multiple reasons but mainly because GM always lets the bean counters win.
Ordered mine early getting by December. beautiful suv Cadillac beats Tesla to its model x in model y price point
Love the large front end vents at the sides! Make it look like a Lexus!
Enough with the anti electric talk...get used to it, accept the change.
You won't know why the hate until you own one and it requires some serious maintenance. Then you will know what's up, also the batteries..
Actually there isn't enough anti electric rhetoric. It's as if some people don't understand where electricity comes from and what it takes to make these batteries and then dispose of them.
Tell that to the children who mine the Cobalt there's blood in those batteries
@@Jag-leaper so there's no blood in the clothing you wear or food you eat? Married by chance? Diamonds? No disrespect but there's literally no difference in this instance.
@@JenGM24 no disrespect but that's life... Your current car takes maintenance too. Its just the progress/change folks are hating on.
This electric vehicle Revolution will lead no where good
How silly.
Right where are we gonna put the trashed batterys and how much money its gone be
@@kshonhorton3803 not to mention the child labor that is used to go into the mines to get this Cobalt so much blood went into the production of this car and all EVs
@@kshonhorton3803 Recycle them? There's already a shortage of the metals used in batteries. Only a complete moron would throw them away instead of selling them to make new batteries.
It's a distinctive and beautiful design, inside and out. It makes the comparable Tesla look comically awful. I call it the giant egg.
Great video
Looks like it could fly just add a pair of wings. The Cylon of evs (Battlestar Galactica).
The legend speaks 🙊
Looks good
Model Y owner here… I admit I’m envious of the perforated / ventilated seats.
For everything else? The Tesla is better… full stop.
That 60 to 62k price won't last long.
To me that is the best looking SUV on the market
What's up with the small center brake light?
2:51
This is not a Dodge Viper!
My sister has one, absolutely gorgeous car, but the stance is positioned very low more like a station wagon and less like an suv. You can’t really tell by the video or pictures. Although it’s very well appointed, it does feel like a mom-cruiser ONLY due to the low level positioning of the vehicle.
My local dealer now has one 2023 in stock. They want $20,000 over MSRP for it.
It's too bad the price GM "set" is meaningless. Dealers will always outsmart GM just like they do customers no matter how GM tries to control them.
Dealers are greedy garbage
Amazing car. I love mine.
It's cool, but it breaks my heart, everytime.
Way to go Cadillac - be bold! 🏁
It looks more like a wagon than an SUV?
Has the Benz style wrap-around dash.
Very well-proportioned modern design.
Great pricing model.
"Best looking Cadillacs in a long time?" Yes, the Lyriq looks beautiful, but so have many recent Cadillacs. I'm not sure if John Davis wrote that as part of his script, but it seems typical of the digs people in the Midwest get from people on both coasts.
Nothing makes me want a carbureted car more than watching this video.
Yeeeesssssssssssss !!!!!
What's that? 😏
I'm not even a Cadillac fan but this is nice! & More affordable than I thought.
Excellent video and informative.
I’ll wait for the all-wheel drive since I cross some rough highways.
What's up with crossover design? We've had these things for like 20-25 years now at least, and auto makers have yet to make one that looks good.
Probably closer to 40 years. The AMC Eagle from circa 1982 was the first.
Stunning.
I really do wish that Cadillac and other EV makers would apply this tech to a coupe. Like, for instance, the hybrid, ELR. That car deserved a second generation, because not all of us want a Crossover . To me a crossover really makes no sense because how rare is it you actually use all that space. I mean maybe somebody who has a family. Maybe somebody who’s going to Costco every other day running a restaurant you know using their vehicle in some semi commercial application. Perhaps that makes sense. But especially for me, they make no sense and besides also people of a certain income strata, have two cars some of us even have three cars. I would love to have a new cutting edge, modern coupe that had all this electronic tech and wonderment built into it. But there’s nothing to buy. I love the lyric. I think it’s a marvelous piece of machinery, but I will never buy one because I don’t need it. What I need is a car that’s gonna make me happy when I get in it and I can scoot over to get a coffee or scoot over to do one or two things and not feel like I’m dragging my living room with me.
If Cadillac quits making gas a engine vehicles, they will go broke. We are 30+ years away from all battery powered vehicles.
This Cadillac looks beautiful like a luxury gas engine SUV making the Tesla expensive Model X looks like a piece of cheap toy, faceless, grill-less.
Rear glass profile, screams Jenson Interceptor.
YES!
Screams, huh?
How is this even remotely like an Interceptor? It lacks similar proportions, the glass doesn’t drape deep over the side, or extend down to the belt line.
Oh and btw re this Caddy. did you notice the unmistakable Goddess (DS) homage? No, probably not.
I must have missed the “road test” during all the gushing about how it looks.
Material is exceptional that is if vinyl is considered exceptional.
Whats simulated leather?
42nd Season..!! i have been watching for 42 years...!
Beautiful car and from a company that really knows their stuff. Just wish that they would have selected more professional people to represent their brand at their testing sites in California.
This won't work in the snowy northeast or west in the mountains. Can you imagine? Rear wheel drive, reduced range in the cold and snow, and snow tires not the high efficiency tires they put on these cars. You will be lucky to get 200 miles range every day driving. Oh, and starting price? $62,990. Average electric car that is low end right now.
? goúd?
Awesome ride bruv 👍🏽..
Thx u 🙌🏽 💀 😤 ♎️...
Oh John, you poor dear. "...best looking Cadillac we've seen in a long time.". Yikes! Remember the Elmiraj concept? That was a beautiful Cadillac.
You get it.
Does every new EV have to be a crossover/SUV, can we get a sedan, wagon, or God forbid a coupe?
I wonder on the future of the used electric car market.
Looks Promising. Design gets an A overall imo. But I imagine it's quite heavy, so, how's the handling on everyday roads ?? . And ....how long will the battery last ??
Didn’t they say 312 miles
I kind of like the vehicle, but I guarantee the way the access door for the charge port operates (so poorly), it will break within a week.
I had noticed that too. The build quality is subpar
@@omarbryant7930 --It could be just the way it is designed.
GM applied the same (lack of) attention to detail to those rear seatback folding switches, too. 4:11
that climate control is straight out of the late 2000s (W221) S class
I bet Florida wishes they all had one
Thanks John D!!
Front seats remind me of Baymax
Ngl I didn’t expect the production model to look that similar to the concept.
If a State won't allow their power grid to be updated, what's the point?
The point is that carmakers realize that there's more sales potential in emerging markets and those with modern power grids. US has left itself behind in terms of mass infrastructure and in the future it won't be really a major sales consideration of these kinds of products when compared to China, India (emerging upper-middle class) and even Europe (good ev infrastructure and use-case).
@@pleasegive1000dollar Europe will be chilly this winter
I hear they are bringing back coal 😲
All this for just 62,000. Crazy
where is the battery made?
Cadillac relies on the Escalade to survive. Its not going to cancel that.
Beautiful...but it lags behind others in range. The Lucid has over 500 miles range.
Lucids cost twice as much my guy, totally meaningless comparison. What others does it lag behind and please use actual real world test results?
Get your ICEs while you can.
I remember GM said Americans didn't want EVs.
Omg I m sold looks classier than Tesla y
Not a fan...some nice design cues....but why electric..
interior sux
52 mph charging? 🙈
Please go back to the original music. Motorweek is a trusted source of detailed information. People who need to hear whatever this is don’t come here anyway because it requires a genuine interest, not some trendy things
Is the Lyriq too luxxed up?
This is the same thing he said about Pinto and don’t trust him
Wow another Cimarron or Allante or 4100.
I really like the exterior styling, but ugh those digital dashboard screens... hard to imagine Cadillac's buyer demographic is crying out for those.
I guess the only thing that’s good is that the buttons for controlling things like the ac is are still physical buttons
I believe they're going for a much younger audience when it comes to this vehicle rather than the more traditional Cadillac's of old.
Most of the old school Cadillac buyers are already dead
@@greggalletta8679 lol.
As nice of a car I’m sure it is to operate, i dislike the way this looks a lot. Its just ugly to me. Comparative to other electric suva’s on market it ranks low on looks while something like Nissan’s Ariya sits near the top
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I have put down a deposit for the chevy blazer ev 2LT because gasoline is higher than the United States I will pay $56600&get500kms/charge 290 hp and I will see it in my driveway Aug 2023 according to the Canadian website thanks for the video
100+kwh battery and only 312 of range?
Big vehicle, must take a while to charge. Must be a pain in the winter with snow, ice and freezing temps?
I have a Chevy Bolt. Immediate start up in New England winters. Snow? Not a problem. One issue is that since there’s no heat from a motor, snow accumulates in the wheel areas. This vehicle should charge quickly on that platform
@@blknyc25 True, but the larger vehicles take longer to charge. Sitting in a icy storm for 20 minutes or more?
