For me, I don’t care about how complicated something is or its color or how fast it can go from 0-60mph…. what I care about is how far it can go on a charge AND how quickly I can recharge it. That’s it. That’s what I want. Long distance travel and rapid recharging.

I like how it whistles as it drives along. Most evs generate either no sound or something thats just annoying to hear. But this one, not bad. Looks great too
The 2023 Lyriq stopped production months ago, and any unfulfilled orders were switched to 2024 models. The 2024 model already changed the door handles so that the handles themselves pop out instead of the door popping open. Yes enough people said the pop-out door was stupid for GM to change it that quickly.
@@faheemabbas3965suvs arent more safe really than plain sedans or wagons and also they are less reliable in corners as well as breaking distance. Suvs are for birds as well
I haven’t laughed this hard in a while. ‘It’s pretty obvious. It’s deep in the menu to the screen’. Best intro yet from you guys. You’re only getting better!
I test drove one of these at a marketing event and loved it, but wasn't in the market to buy. This year I was in the market, but the dealership said it would take 22 MONTHS to get a Lyriq with SuperCruise. Not to mention an awful dealership experience, maybe because I was under 30 and not wearing a suit. Ended up getting a Model Y. ID.4 was also a very close competitor, probably would have gone with that if it weren't for the Electrify America/ NACS news.
I do hope the trend of using the main infotainment display to perform every simple action in a car isn’t here to stay. You can have a modern, simplistic and minimalist design language for a car interior without everything being on one screen. Having some things be physical and tactile is nice.
I just leased a 2024 AWD with the dual motor setup. They worked out alot of the annoying things mentioned in this video. And its an absolute roocket thats also extremely smooth. Its amazing.
I always liked Art and Science. 2.0 is even better. It has a bold, executive presence that is distinctively American and appropriately bespoke to Cadillac. The Lyriq isn't my favourite example of it.
Interesting assessment - some things to note are that the fussy door handles have been completely replaced on all 2024 models with something akin to what’s on the Ioniq 5/6 albeit nicer as they have light bars in them. I was extremely impressed with both the design and build quality of the one I sampled a few months ago. Ride quality, cabin quietness, material quality, design (subjective but still), and tech were notably better in the Lyriq than the Mach-E. Also, you keep saying it’s 80k CN but then on the screen it shows that it’s significantly less than that…most other reviewers make note of how much value you’re getting for your money with the Lyriq. I’m not even going to go into how much better it is than the dumpy-looking Model Y…IMO Cadillac knocked it out of the park with this one.
The Lyriq in this video is 80k CN as equipped for this review. The “cheaper” numbers on screen are Lyriq base model pricing with no options. Cadillac, like many others, love to overcharge for their options.
@@Rechargencrush the trim lines are only a few thousand dollars apart from each other and they’re all pretty generously equipped 🤷🏼♂️ also they are driving a 2023 debut edition RWD that had a roughly $70k CN MSRP…
I’m a salesman at a Cadillac dealership and the AWD version is out and so are 2024 models, the AWD is noticeably better and the 2024 level 2s and 3s are being built here this month in September but awesome cars I highly recommend anyone checking out EVs to take a look
Sorry, but Cadillac is and has been going down the drain for years. Sales are abysmal compared to all other luxury vehicles. This electric garbage is just another nail in the GM coffin.
@@chriszaiserI’ll be honest, I thought Cadillac was only the Escalade until they came out with this thing. I was really surprised they made something like this, it’s a pretty good offering imo.
On my job, there is one red. It is beautiful, sleek, and credit to Cadillac on the exterior execution. From a view, it looks small to me, but I guess it is roomier than you would think.
just got our 2024 Lyriq one of the first in Canada very nice been loving in 1 month we have already reached over 5000km it has been a great drive except minor apple car play issues.
A Mercedes in disguise? I don’t think Cadillac would appreciate such a comment when Mercedes are putting out jelly beans as EVs. _Cadillac_ took their time to create something unique.
I saw a local review show the 2024 Lyriq and Cadillac fixed the door handle situation, now they work like the Tesla Model 3. Now if only they would put a latch on the glove box.
There has been spy shots for the 2024 Lyriq with real door handles. And there is apparently a V Series in development, and hopefully that will get the MagneRide suspension. So the glimmer of hope is that Cadillac is being proactive, and working on improving the car.
The 2024 Lyric has relatively normal door handles that pop out in the front and you pull them to open the door. This design was more or less a place holder bc it came out well before it should have. They have a lot of kinks to work out before it's really a solid vehicle
I test drove one of these couple of weeks ago .. The best interior EV or non EV .. such a sad thing they can't produce them enough and then dealers charging 10k over the MSRP as market adjustment .. Also due to delays in super cruise components, they are producing only the base model which has significantly less premium things as compared to lux2 or tech 2.. And they have got rid of push / pull thing in 2024 model
It would be nice if they reviewed the current model year Lyriq instead of the old one. The new one has the new door handles which is game changer for simplicity.
The fact that you have to point out *standard doorhandles* as a "gamechanger" says all about the level of lunacy current car design has reached. I just wish car makers stopped all this nonsense and focussed their efforts on actually building better cars instead of pointless, needlessly convoluted tech fests.
@@FzNd I wouldn’t say the new door handles are standard design . But, they are much simpler in design and function, which is as a consumer I would like.
It would be better off just not being an EV. Insurance costs??Too high. Real life charging costs?? Too high. Repair costs after warranty/price of extended warranty?? Too high. Parts availability??Zero other than dealership=Too high. Battery degradation / actual mileage range / cold weather impact upon range(as much as 60+% decrease during cold weather(they live in Canada) And you'd better not think about ever towing anything with an EV over any trip other than something very local(see cold weather battery mileage minus 25%). It's pretty. You guys are pretty too... pretty awesome!!! Your video was A+ as always.
Do you work for the oil and gas industry??? Your post is full of misrepresentations. Charging cost to travel 25 miles in a Lyriq is about $1.00 here in Washington. Repair costs--near zero- much fewer parts and mechanicals-warranty much longer than ICE vehicles. Battery degradation averages about 10% over 100,000 miles.
I agree with the views expressed in this video. I've spent a limited amount of time in the Lyriq, and my initial impressions are similar. It looks great, but the doors are an unforced error (i.e., they kinda stink, in many ways), and the build quality doesn't feel anywhere near as good as it looks. As soon as you start touching, opening, and closing things, you realize that it all feels kinda cheap - way cheaper than it should. I've been in Japanese cars that cost half as much but all the doors, compartments, buttons, and knobs feel higher quality even though they don't look as fancy.
Same, it’s so close but not there. Also, the air vents simply cannot blow air upwards, meaning no air hits your face in the Summer. The salesman had never had that pointed out and after I did, all he could say was, “yeah, that’s not going to work in the South (US)”. He was so defeated.
Gotta tell you, first Lyriq review I did not fall asleep on. Truely! I understood exactly what you meant by the wallowing suspension, why isn't the glove box button always available. And by now the Nautilus has the longest display. Listened to a Caddy staffer talk about all of the feature/tech placed in the doors; Caddy didn't make TH standards. Only wish this was a hybrid.👍🏾
I've now watched so many reviews of cars I absolutely never intend to buy, which aren't even available in the UK. And it's all thanks to Throttle House! Cheers!
GM nailed this - great styling and interior, competitive milage range, and can easily sit with much more expensive cars (this feels way more special than the mentioned $89k base X5, and thats not even an EV). The overly plush ride and moments of overly exuberant styling (the rear styling definitely challenges a bit) are all exactly what you want out of a Cadillac - this feels very spiritually on-brand and also makes total sense as an EV - I really dig this. When GM brings their A-game good things happen, and this one is worthy of praise for what was clearly a lot put into it.
So a few things: First the door handles present as you walk up on ‘24+ models. Second in the US there is at least an $8k subsidy plus $1.5k home charger credit, plus years of gas and maintenance savings you’re not counting into the “price” of the car, plus a 4-year warranty.
I think you guys raised a very valid point there and auto manufacturers need to pay attention to this. I cant believe how complicated things are getting for the most menial of tasks, there should be legislation against this in the future..
Good ZDX preview, thanks, guys! Hopefully, with a sane decision to add Apple Car play to the ZDX, Acura will also add a dedicated button for the glovebox :D
I've owned a Lyriq for 6 months and my 1 year old easily figured out how to open the doors. In fact my 80 year old parents and dozens of friends who have ridden in the car have never asked me how to open the doors. It's actually very intuitive and quite embarrassing that you guys went through all the theatrics to show that pressing a button is difficult to figure out.
Loveee the Lyriq! Just test drove the 2024 model and I'm in love! too confortable and efficient, by the way, the door handles on the 2024 models are different!
For what it's worth, the 2024 LYRIQ has deployable door handles which function more like a Rivian where they pop out when unlocked. Guessing they got so much hate on these 2023 doors that they didn't even make it to the mid cycle enhancement
Normally as a rule I don't watch anything having to do with electric vehicles, which I despise, but that opening was so hilarious I broke my own rule just this time. James deadpan while eating was classic.
Agreed with this. Good looks, great engineering, Interior looks great and has all the features, but needs some more time in the oven. The creaks are disappointing and its unfortunate. The vehicle started at a good base price and perhaps that caused the bean counters to cut some corners, or maybe they haven’t gotten their production line fully fleshed out. Needless to say the creaks are more perceived quality rather than actual quality. Let’s see if these things break or if they hold up reliably.
I took delivery on my Luxury 3 Lyriq AWD fully loaded earlier this past week. It's an amazing car. It's luxurious. It looks way more expensive than it is. The ride is slightly harsh and I wonder if they could improve that with Magnetorheological shocks (magneride) as well. I guess they weren't ready for this car yet. But that's a minor nit pick: I'm totally happy with my car. I have the same Argent SILVER with Light-gray interior on 22's and the car looks like $100,000.
Always a great review. After seeing this, I'd be scared of how many things in this car would break. I mean, why not just use door handles? And why not just have a normal latch for the glove box!
I think most people will opt for the Acura ZDX Type S when it comes out. It is basically the same vehicle but with air suspension…….some more refinements and 500 horsepower.
You forgot one thing that sets the apart from the Ionic 5, for just a little more, you don’t have to drive the “Hyundai” you GET the drive a “Cadillac”
I think that the grill will live on, especially because of automakers unquenchable thirst for overstyling cars. The lines do bring a tasteful bit of intrigue to the front end that is completely lacking in most all other EVs.
The answer to your critique is Chevrolet Blazer EV. It has regular door handles and glove box. It’s not as luxurious but more affordable and practical.
Not the best review, I recently visited my local Cadillac dealer and saw this 2024 model listed at $63,000. I was very impressed, it's beautiful in and out. In this review they didn't mention the seats, they are very well made and comfortable. The interior is very luxurious with black woodgrain along the door panels, it was beautiful. The interior comes in a variety of colors and the stereo is amazing. The front headrests have speakers built in on each end. The display was crisp and easy to use, this is the only EV that is really a luxury car. All the others are more plain and sporty, so it's nice to see this was specifically designed for luxury. It seems all the automakers now are all about sport and power. This Cadillac is worth looking at and at a very good price point.
I have never considered Cadillac, but this vehicle and the price to quality ratio are very attractive. For under 75k CAD you can get a tech pack AWD with 500+ hp. That’s actually a bargain considering a Volvo XC40 Regen is pretty much the same price for similar quality (I have one), less room, less range and Android auto OS. A similarly priced BMW ix will cost you between 12-20k CAD to own over 48 months. These don’t look great, but they drive fantastic and have similar space. Plus a more sophisticated chassis. They cannot be had with a trailer hitch, so not great if you are a cyclist who needs a rack or need to tow anything A decently optioned Q8 e-tron has far less space in the back and seem to be around 109k CAD. I was personally underwhelmed by that car. But others love it. You could also go for a Genesis electric GV70 for similar money. I think that car looks less attractive but has a quality interior, less range but faster charging. A Jaguar iPace drives beautifully and has a fantastic interior, but is being discontinued and costs 118k CAD. Plus the back seat is smaller. I’ve had 8 Land Rover/Range Rovers over the years and love them. But a new sport is starting at 120k and can hit 175k on Autobiography trim. They’re nice, but really thirsty (15litres per 100km was all I ever saw. Even with my 2 door 6 cylinder Defender. We can’t really get the Phev here. The Ionic 5 vs the tech pack Lyriq is an interesting matchup. The Lyriq feels like 15k more car. The Kia EV9 is another option at this price point. I think it’s a great option for a Land Rover Discovery type vehicle. And at 78K CAD it’s very competitive, especially since it gets the rebate. But it feels a little more “family” than this car. So I actually think the Lyriq works as a competitive step up from some options and a step down from others.
And the Oscar goes to: Thomas Holland, for his incredibly believable performance in LYRIQ: A Mercedes in Disguise.
Zendaya will be so proud
Technically it would be a Emmy

Throttle House is so good I just sat through a 20 min review of a C teir car, and enjoyed it.
The intro 🤣🤣🤣 immaculate
It's been revealed, Thomas is a vampire.
For me, I don’t care about how complicated something is or its color or how fast it can go from 0-60mph…. what I care about is how far it can go on a charge AND how quickly I can recharge it. That’s it. That’s what I want. Long distance travel and rapid recharging.
Well, the problem is, every video about that would be the same. "It's not there yet. Battery tech isn't there yet, infrastructure is not only not there 'yet' but actually getting worse year over year, and you should buy a hybrid of some flavor."
-Or a Tesla, if you can avoid vomiting in your mouth at the quality issues and the industry leading amounts of stupid design choices.... but at least they're less abysmal in terms of the infrastructure piece. Slightly.-
I like how it whistles as it drives along.
I long for the days of a true sedan. These crossovers are for the birds.
Same.
I long for the days that weight advantages are defeated making cars just as safe as SUVS when the two get into a crash with each other…
@@faheemabbas3965suvs arent more safe really than plain sedans or wagons and also they are less reliable in corners as well as breaking distance. Suvs are for birds as well
I have one.
At the end he essentially just named the Blazer EV SS that supposed to be coming out.
I just leased a 2024 AWD with the dual motor setup. They worked out alot of the annoying things mentioned in this video. And its an absolute roocket thats also extremely smooth. Its amazing.
Better exterior design than the current BMW, Audi & Mercedes EV Suv's👌
Idk the Audi Q8 etron looks pretty good and less weird at the back
I always liked Art and Science. 2.0 is even better. It has a bold, executive presence that is distinctively American and appropriately bespoke to Cadillac.
The Lyriq isn't my favourite example of it.
@@andrewduong2740yea I think this design looks best on the (China ct6), xt6 and Escalade
Would love you guys to go back a review an EV you already have but in winter conditions to see how much of an affect the weather has on range.
I'm sure they know about shrinkage.
Have they ever tested range on a vehicle?
So happy you guys managed to shoot the entire video before Thomas was offed. Thomas will be missed though.
@@chriszaiserany thing before “but” is a lie. Just say it in your opening sentence if you don’t like GM or Cadillac and get it out the way.
@@chriszaiser The eleventy billion new Escalades around me say otherwise.
Of course you do you’re a salesman lmao
@@chriszaiserI’ll be honest, I thought Cadillac was only the Escalade until they came out with this thing. I was really surprised they made something like this, it’s a pretty good offering imo.
On my job, there is one red. It is beautiful, sleek, and credit to Cadillac on the exterior execution. From a view, it looks small to me, but I guess it is roomier than you would think.
Love the dirty headrests 🤣
“That handled like trying to run through a ball pit in those ‘90s moon shoes.”
One of Thomas’ funniest lines in a while 😂
just got our 2024 Lyriq one of the first in Canada very nice been loving in 1 month we have already reached over 5000km it has been a great drive except minor apple car play issues.
What issues are you having?
Hilarious Intro! Well done guys.
This is the car reviewers that even when you don’t like the car they are reviewing you would still want to watch. Amazing!!
They have a lot of kinks to work out before it's really a solid vehicle
i have the 2024 AWD and it indeed has normal door handles. The car is amazing!
@@evanderfrancis694 I didn't know they had hit the market yet. Great to hear!!! 😀
good because i've seen people saying that the door has failed many times and hurt hands
I initially thought the intro was dumb but you won me over with your Oscar worthy performance, plus I love when a point is well made. A++.
Do people actually like that all cars are turning into minivans? Nothing wrong with a minivan, but there was nothing wrong with a sedan either.
Unfortunately yes they do
Materialism. A good number of suburbanites could care less about looks when it comes to flexing on the next door neighbor.
I like the way it looks honestly. Still super expensive but it does look cool. Great review as always Gents!
Give it six months for thr repos to catch up to the industry. Prices are falling and luxury EVs will fall the most.
They now offer 7,500 off MSRP. Amazing what a few months can do.
Terrific looking vehicle. Love the A pillar back to the tail from the side angle. Very cool. 😎
Every week I leave a comment saying that was the best intro but this here.. this one takes the cake.
😂”the steering is like a rolling civics lesson in inertia”😂
There is no way anyone does better intros than Throttle House's! Hands down the best!
You boys still have the magic. Best openings in the business and the best reviews.
Harrison is pretty good at conveying the seat comfort with no words! 😀
I've now watched so many reviews of cars I absolutely never intend to buy, which aren't even available in the UK. And it's all thanks to Throttle House! Cheers!
Aside from the back and rear 3/4 view it looks good. The rear feels like it's being stretched just for cargo.
Another Banger by Thortle House
Keep doing this you deserve way more!
What do you think about the suspension though? They complained of the absence of Magneride
Nailed what, other than the asphalt with they way too heavy pos brick on wheels
So a few things: First the door handles present as you walk up on ‘24+ models. Second in the US there is at least an $8k subsidy plus $1.5k home charger credit, plus years of gas and maintenance savings you’re not counting into the “price” of the car, plus a 4-year warranty.
Been waiting for this one for so long
EDIT: This must be the first model year cause they updated the door handles after
You two are better than the newest Top Gear hosts. You are the hope for the future when the Grand Tour guys finally retire.
I think you guys raised a very valid point there and auto manufacturers need to pay attention to this. I cant believe how complicated things are getting for the most menial of tasks, there should be legislation against this in the future..
Throttle house is so funny every video makes my day😂❤
Good ZDX preview, thanks, guys!
It's not difficult, it's just completelly unnesessery 2 step process for opening a door.
Pretty sure they already had the design on the roadmap before people complained. You don't make changes like that in less than a year.
Would you elaborate on the creaks comment? Thanks in advance!
The door handle design was changed already.
They’re changing the door handles for 2024, GM confirmed.
My favorite duo ever ! Thomas and james the history won’t repeat u!
I think most people will opt for the Acura ZDX Type S when it comes out. It is basically the same vehicle but with air suspension…….some more refinements and 500 horsepower.
i think the Cadillac designers put that subtle little emblem on the back of the radio head unit exactly for moments like this.
Why does it look like the headrests have grease spots on them?
Speakers in the headrest.
Speakers in the headrest.
The intro is perfect
I do like this vehicle. GM probably only loses 20k for each one sold. That’s why they will only make like 500/month. It’s a good business model.
It's also where you hide all your sensors and safety doodads.
Bigtruckseries / Passport Bros Business Class where you at?
Rip ❤
I like this format of you two talking whilst driving.
Need to stay impartial....need to stay impartial....
At first I thought the headrest was dirty, then realized they wear speakers lol
Love all your intros! Super hilarious! I love your channel I watch you videos everyday ! Thank you both so much !
The answer to your critique is Chevrolet Blazer EV. It has regular door handles and glove box. It’s not as luxurious but more affordable and practical.
That door design is pure chaos
Can't wait for you to review the Celestiq!
"that's dumb" is wholly appropriate
They cannot be had with a trailer hitch, so not great if you are a cyclist who needs a rack or need to tow anything
A decently optioned Q8 e-tron has far less space in the back and seem to be around 109k CAD.
You guys are hysterical. I know I am late to this review but keep up the comedic relief!
My favorite thing about the Cadillac Lyriq is the guy who traded in his Cadillac CT5 V for it so I could buy that same CT5 V at a lower price.
