2023 Nissan Z | MotorWeek Road Test
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 вер 2024
- Most people would agree that the original Nissan 240Z was the car that legitimized Japanese sports cars here in America. But much has changed over the last 50-years, a small sporty coupe is certainly not as popular they once were, and the Z went from leading that pack to barely remembered. So it’s Time to see what kind of an impact an all-new Z car will have in the modern performance car landscape. @nissanusa #Nissan #NissanZ

Never thought I'd hear John say 'hella torque' 😂😂
I thought I was the only who thought 'wow he actually said 'hella' 'loll
I legit had to rewind and use captions to make sure I heard that correctly lmao. Ok John Davis with the hip words haha.
@@Bted__ever 🤣🤣🤣I just had to rewind it back too, just to be sure.
I knew I wasn't the only one😂😂😂😂came to the comments for this
Hella torquey.. 😂 legendary John
I can’t imagine a different host being on this show! It’s so soothing hearing the same voice for every car review I’ve been watching since I was a kid
How long has he been doing this job as I'm from Australia?
I agree, i have been watching motorweek since year 1992, mw wont be the same without john davis. John davis been hosting motorweek since 1981, if i am not wrong.
@@rebelusa6585 Long time, you answered my question.
@@rebelusa6585 wait- is he LEAVING?
Yep since I was a kid too
Wow. Who remembers when Mr. Davis first reviewed the ZX Turbo? (2nd gen Z). When you actually had to catch an episode on TV before the internet? lol. Amazing that he's reviewing the Z about 40 years later! with classic enthusiasm no less. I hope he can keep updating/informing us for the generations to come ( :
My 85 300zx is only 2 seconds slower on quarter mile
@@jeffwolfe4058 Keep that beauty. Weather it's a 2 by 2 or 2 seater. I hope it hasn't been costly for you to keep it on the road. Happy for you.
@@manher4335 it's 2 seater white on burg leather interior 130k miles got it for just 1000.00 back in 08 as 80s cars were dime a dozen back then. Thanks!

He wasn’t very impressed with the car
“Fancy Bridgestones” 😂😂
Hey everyone just a question. If Nissan marketed this Z as a 2+2 also with good proportions and just as good looking. About the same performance. Will anyone buy it today?
“Hella Torquey?” 4:05 Legend.
John's always been hella cool
The coolest
Hearing John say Hella Torquey made my day. 4:03
John's hip!
4:04 'Hella' torque-y lol
Yeah I couldn't believe it. 😂 Who's writing John's copy these days.
….Is our beloved host hanging out with teenagers in Thousand Oaks, California these days?!??
@@eddieg6436 it's a Nissan Z after all
@@eddieg6436 😂
I said 'hello' back when I thought he said 'hello Turkey' lol
(albeit, we did correct our country name to it's proper way 'Turkiye' )
:)))
I'm 51 and have been watching since the start, John IS Motorweek, I will miss his voice when he leaves. It's been an awesome 40 yrs!
This car is actually true to its heritage and is not a rebadged BMW!! In addition it will feel like home to previous 350Z and 370Z owners which is a good thing. 😇
yeah that counts for something. Toyota rebadging Beemers and slapping on the Supra name seems to indicate they don't have as much pride in the heritage.
@@toronado455 exactly and clearly Nissan still cares. I love my new frontier and Nissan is selling those like hotcakes and the new Z will be no exception. 😇
@The Real VR I would say the Titan more than I would the frontier because the frontiers are used by a lot of companies now and are beginning to pick up momentum but the Titan will be going away after this next model year which I don't think is going to hurt Nissan at all..
@@hailstorm1986 it's sad the Titan is going away. They had the coolest engine option with the real size diesel. Not the small DMax or Fiat thing the Ram has.
Yeah, it so true to it heritage, it forgot about using a merc trans lol. Plus it's been proven the BMW/yota supra is a better car in all aspects 😁🚗👀
Man John sure has aged well. I might’ve not been born then but I watched his early motor week videos from 1981 and he looks like a fine cigar. Never stop doing what you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life. Motor week just doesn’t sound or feel the same without him presenting in it
John used the word "hella" 🤣🤣🤣
😂
I've always appreciated that MotorWeek uses parameters for acceleration and braking tests, and in the slalom for handling.
Yup just wish they tracked them and posted a time
Yes that's how it should be! These UA-cam reviewers are getting too emotional and offer nothing besides entertainment that you learn nothing from. Too bad because the sheep prefer the over the top exaggerated reviews.
@@gigi9467 They almost always post times. For consistency though they should do acceleration tesst at a drag strip like they did this Z and not use Roebling Road like they often do.
@@justme307 what? Where do they post times????!!!
@@gigi9467 Hey Jesus! 3:45 for 0-60, 4:07 for 1/4-mile, 4:59 for braking from 60
John is the best, It is so comforting hearing his voice still, I myself have been watching motorweek since the early 80's. You are a true legend in car reviewing
Not to "burn" other viewers but, who can successfully replace JOHN DAVIS?
I have enjoyed his commentary and smooth voice for over 30 years watching MT every Sunday with my Father.
Did you plan on him dying within the next 30 days or something? He’s still with us and still hosting. Let’s enjoy this.
Scotty Kilmer
Absolutely no one
John is the G.O.A.T. This Z hits so many of the right styling queues. Hopefully the dealers don't ruin this release.
I absolutely love this car, and the fact that they kept the analogue gauges in the car, and didn't just stick on an ugly touch screen unit. Nissan did such a fantastic job with this car. It's just a shame their dealers are awful and have doubled the price of this car under the rule of 'scarcity'. Hopefully their dealer markups don't get paid, but with the way people buy things these days I have no doubt that many of these will end up on the used market after their owners end up upside down on the loan.
For some reason I find the styling awful overall especially that front end! Unfortunate because it's enough to prevent me from buying one even know it's inexpensive!
@@dr.jiIIaIicecooper2587 wait for the aftermarket to come up with some body kits. I'm sure you'll be able to find something you like once some concepts come out. Keep in mind that the proto z has the special body kit made for the prototype. The normal version won't be that bold.

@@germanengineering204 I agree. The design team just phoned it in. But they have precedent. The 2012 Maxima has a similar theme: curvy design with a boring rectangle slapped on the grill. For me, it ruins the whole car.
I managed to find a goldmine of a dealer. Already ordered mine in. 0 markups. Got mine around 44k for the Sport model with a couple goodies.
This warm my old man heart.
I really think they missed the mark on the front end styling and tire choice, and unfortunately the dealers will make it all but impossible to get these at sticker.
@davisflyer, definitely agree. The front styling looks awkward, especially in yellow. Black and other dark exterior colors might look better. I have nothing good to say about the typical price gauging/markups.
I agree. I love the way it looks from the side and back but the straight on front view doesn't do it for me.
I believe simplicity was the designers goal, as it harkens back to the 240Z. I like it fine as it accomplishes that goal.
I wish the base had limited slip, even if the cost went up 1-2k... Enthusiasts want limited slip. The higher trim that comes with it is a huge price jump.
Already available as an aftermarket upgrade. 😉
Warranty on certain parts of the car gone with that modification though!

John Davis is a automotive icon.
Thank you Nissan for giving us the pure sport car back! What a beauty!👌😍👉♥️🥰👍
I sat in a yellow one in Newnan, Ga Nissan. It was marked up $30,000 to $81,000. I gave the lady my number and told her to call me when they get rid of the bull shook.
You did the right thing cause that's crazy talk I like Z cars but the Z not worth $81,000 being realistic that's Corvette zo6 territory because at the end of the day why pay that much money and if a Corvette or Porsche pulls up beside it it's getting beat
I LOVE it! Nissan really hit it out of the park with this one. Beautiful looks, 400 HP, 6-speed manual, and RWD. Sign me up!
lol @ whoever put the word "hella" in the script for John to read
God bless u Mr.Davis
One of the reason y i watch Motorweek
John is still at it! I really hope that the world appreciates this man and his dedication to automobiles!
AMS performance already has their's doing 9's in the 1/4.
If anyone from MotorWeek reads this, please just randomly walk up to John Davis one day and say "some guy on the internet told me to tell you that America loves you" and then just walk away.
He's a treasure, and a fixture of so many of our lives.
That as a convertible or even better T-top or targa top! I can't wait!
I like the overall profile, the rear more so than the front. The dash set up is nice along with great braking.
Best car reviews ever! I can't believe it took me so long to subscribe! 😊
2nd car was 72’ 240❤ new Z is almost as quick as my Model Y to 60. This new Z looks Awesome especially in Yellow. Love the 240 tributes in the design. Great job Renault.
Looks good from the side....the front square thing....not so much
Did John say, "Hella!" lol
Looks like a worthy successor to the Z lineage. Me, my favorite Z was The 3rd Generation Z (1990's ZX). It was larger and made for a better fit for a big guy like me.
240 for me even tho I owned a 260.
The second gen 300ZX is 4th generation
@@11ICE: Okay 4th Generation.
Great information and no over the top opinionated drama
Seems like these UA-cam reviewers are just narcissistic. They are all are trying to be Clarkson.
sounds like a real car. I want one. I loved my 86 Z.
Had a 78 280z back in the day, mariner blue emron lowered down on a Koni suspension with gold Panasport modulars. I would love to have it now over many of the new offerings for under 50k...
I’d much rather have a Mustang GT. Can’t beat that V8 rumble.
My dad talks about the release of the original Z back in the 70s. I’m sure he would not appreciate being told he’s lived a full life already lol
Had a !973 240Z last year made, was a great car. Did a few upgrades to it and it was a handful.
Can not wait to see one up close! Brings back a lot of fond memories!!! Great review by the way.
Unfortunately in CA the dealers are hella greedy and marked up the Z a ridiculous $20,000!!!! A coworker wanted to test drive one and they REFUSED!!!
I dropped my phone when I heard him say “hella torquey” lol
Language changed allot but it’s modern equivalent to “hell of allot”
These reviews are strangely relaxing on the porcelain throne
Hella torquey 😯
Thank you for continuing to do these it reminds me of my childhood
John has lived through all the best years of automotive history. Very lucky.
All this time and that’s the grill they’re going with? What visionary thought up that one- wow! A rectangle 😂
The performance trim blue on blue I wanted but couldn't swing the $51,000+ price tag. So I got an 23 Hyundai Elantra N $34,000. I do have a pearl white 91 300zx though.
Hearing John say "hella torquey" made my day.
Looks great. I would only change the front bumper.
Styling is weird to me! The front end is God awful imo!!

He said hella? lmfao that's a first
😂
Man I love my 370Z weekend car... But it's paid off and the price of these new ones is no way affordable as they once were. In not giving up mine for quite a while.
Was thinking the same thing if you own a 370z that's paid off it's no point in trading just for a new Z because the prices are outrageous 50k isn't chump change and considering the only thing different is the engine because everything else interior wise looks too similar to the 370z matter fact if I could have the twin turbo motor swapped into the 370z I'd be content with the 370z
@@cedricmiller4370 yeah your not kidding you know dealers are going to mark those up like crazy
@@glovedcop69 right and because of that we probably want see many on the highway nobody wants to pay that much
Never let Hella into another script, unless aftermarket lights are the topic.
Man I want one so bad I had a new 73 when I was 18 never new what I had but I loved that car like a fool I traded it in on a new Mazda RX3 rotory many more cars came after that time to start over just sold my 56 chev Z here I come
Someone from Northern California write the script for this episode.
Hella torque?
I'm not sure why anyone but a hard core Nissan loyalist would buy this over a Mustang GT. The Mustang has 50 more hp and starts at $38k. It looks better, IMHO, even at the end of its current product cycle and sounds a whole lot more like a sports car. I know Fords aren't the most reliable brands (I've owned one), but Nissan's quality ain't what it used to be. Why would you choose a Z over a GT?
First off because it's a ford, second reason for me is because everyone and their mom has a mustang, challenger or camaro,at least with the Z your not going to see another one every time you drive around the corner
The roofline is wonderfull side on, no complaints there.
But there's something wrong with the front around the lights, air inlet etc, and the rear.
I know they tried to be loyal to the original vibe, but especially that front from the front needs some work, but I can't put my finger on it (as an amateur designer, I did not study it too much either, but it just doesn't site right).
....yep, firstly the rear, the darkened area beneath the tail lights, on the bumper wraps around the sides too wide, needs to be tucked in a bit more I think.
And the front, the air inlet needs to be shallower, the excess where the number plate is to sit on, the fake looking part needs to be removed, and the rectangular section needs to be with a less hang, and a crease or two needs to be added beneath the air inlet rectangul area with driving lights positioned on either corner, these driving lights needs some trial and error, either deep set or more flush fitting, either very small, medium or a bit larger in diameter, yes round, but need to try them to see and decide the finished design.
Yep, that's my two cents.
the box grill is ugly and doesnt belong there.
@@lobsterwhisperer7932 Well they tried to do what's on the original, but didn't manage to do so with finesse.
I just test drove the Z with performance trim package, what a beautiful car and drives great ( I drove the stick), but no T Tops on a car like that is a sin, if your not gonna offer a convertible
John Davis is literally an icon. How lucky are we?
Jeez John been workin on that tan since 1990
I love my Nismo 350z
Great car one issue though is when the fuel tank is about half full and you wanna pull hard for the twisties you lose fuel pressure Nissan needs to work on this!
It looks amazing. An instant classic.
Stop lying! front end design is both plain and hideous
Modernized Classic
I like a lot about the design but the rectangular "mouth" is uninspired at best.
Nice production Uncle John.
I need one of these 😂 I had a 240
Thanks John.🥶
MotorWeek gives the vast majority of the cars they prove you the benefit of the doubt. At the end when he says it's not groundbreaking it means "it's nothing special".
The370z is just as proper a sports car as its replacement. If you have to be the only kid on the block to have one then by all means but if you want better sports car start someplace else or just buy a used 370Z for a lot less money
In the future I want one! Have a 1975 280z myself and a S14 Nissan Silvia. Heavly modified!
The best thing about the new Dealer Greed Limited is so few of them are available. I actually heard of one $50k markup. I've had it with these guys...all of them. Maybe some day I'll deal with them again -- with the few survivors. I won't buy a car again from a company that doesn't ban "dealer market adjustments".
So absolutely nothing negative about the Z. Must be a perfect automobile.
Gorgeous overall design. Tragic front end
Owned three z cars. I think they missed the boat with this.
I don't even ..that's it
..I WANT ONE
The Frontier would benefit from this powertrane
The 300ZX and the 280ZX came with boost. This car is beautiful
I think it is great , but I would rather have an oil and transmission temp gauge replacing the
turbo speed and whatever other gauge.
I can only hope that Nissan gives the R36 GTR the same treatment as the new Z.
Is the automatic still not for sale ?
SUGGESTION: TARGA TOP!!! AND GROUND EFFECTS KIT AND WIDEBODY KIT!!!
Why does this guy talk like he’s trying to sell me a refrigerator? No shade tho, good video👍🏻👍🏻
CO2 Emissions rating? That’s awesome, Captain Planet approves! Keep up the good work .
This show is ridiculously retro. It’s as if the host is stuck back in the 80’s standing next to a car in the future. Or the car went back to the past.
Hey hey, John, "hella" sick video bruh. Also remember, "super quick", "hella fast", "bangin interior"

holy shit... it's John Davis from Motorweek. is this 1984?
I really wish Nissan would have designed a car that had some of the cool looks of the 240z or 280z. The recessed headlights were always a feature I liked, and thought it helped it look more aggressive. The new Z looks like a lady bug. And foir what you spend, you expect performance AND good looks!
This reminds me of a mustang fastback, love it
Hella torque 😆
JOhn Davis is all class been within over 30 years😉
0:43 They must have needed a huge Xacto knife to cut out the hole for that grill.
