    Doug’s point at the end really hits it on the head for me. I don’t necessarily want something like an EQS where the whole vehicle is so focused on showing us the future that it misses out on some of the more mundane necessities for a car. I just want a normal Lexus LS, that happens to be electric.

      Same, I don't get how adding an extra step to opening doors or the glove box is considered a luxury. Hopefully it's a trend that dies out or at least stays in the high end market.

  • @karuso58

    I just wanted to point out (for those unaware) is that the thinking/reason for an electronic button for the glove box is that when you put your car in "Valet Mode" for valet parking, it prevents valets from rifling through your glove box. I have a 2016 Cadillac ELR (which also does not have a manual button for the globe box). When you put the car in "Valet Mode", it also locks out certain functions of the infotainment as well as the glove box. It also keeps you from opening the trunk.

    • @lamenamethefirst
      @lamenamethefirst Рік тому +4

      Here's an idea. We could put a revolutionary new technology on glove boxes called a lock, which when used can only be opened with something called a key. Oh wait. I just find is silly that their idea of safety and privacy for the 10% of the time it'll be used by a valet, is to also make things more difficult for the owner 90% of the time. There's an easier way. Everything doesn't have to be shoved into the infotainment system. The concept of valet keys already exist. Just program the valet key to be able to only start the car and have limited functionality. Just like the doors are radio controlled and unlocked by the presence of the car key, so can the glove box. Problem solved.

    As per my theory, it might be a substitute for the lockable glove box back in the days when keys used to be a thing. Now with more and more cars going keyless, more manufacturers are integrating glove box openers in the screens so they can't be accessed without the key in the car. Just a way to integrate lockable storage inside the car without the use of keys.
    P.s. either I just figured out a mystery or might be too late to realise this.

I just feel that with EVs in particular, there's been too much focus on putting technology where it doesn't need to be. A good example of that is an electronic opener for the glovebox. That's just a solution looking for a problem and there's a lot of that going on with cars today. I'm more of a fan of something like the Mercedes EQB. Why would anyone want to turn opening the door into a two-step process? They couldn't just integrate the button into the pull handle on the front? Simply mind-boggling.

    My Elantra - in winter I have to turn off a lot of the auto steer measures as the lines of the road - if any are left are to be ignored as - you might have 2 or 3 lanes in summer but as winter goes along you end up with 1 or 2 .. often driving on the lines, if you let the car drive it would be trying to drive you into a snow drift or right into someone beside you. On a good note, it is "kind of nice" once the roads are repaired (not endless dodging literally holes and objects) and lines are painted for the most part - you get reminded how nice those are.

    I refused to buy GM for over 30 years due to horrible experiences in the 90’s. I then, reluctantly, decided to support a family member who works there and got me a deal on a 12 month 21’Cadillac CT5 lease. I absolutely loved it. Car was perfect from the day I got it ‘till I returned it. I now have a ‘22 Yukon Denali and while I’m enjoying it, preferred the Caddy and the features it had that are lacking on the GMC. Like auto hold and massaging seats. Spoiled, I know. I know await the ‘23 Lyric and will receive soon. Excited for my first electric, and while not perfect, it’s not 100K, either, and as stated by Doug, is a really nice ride. I can’t wait.

    In a sea of EVs the Lyriq truly stands on its own. Better interior, comfort and isolation than all EVs but the EQS and an exterior design that truly turns heads. I'd say Cadillac did an outstanding job for a first attempt.
