I picked mine up over a month ago. I friggin' love it. My first EV vehicle. The button to open and close the front trunk is in the grill just left of center (your right) of the truck. It took me a while to find it too. It doesn't have a sport mode but it does have a WOW mode for fast sprints.
Chevy is low key crushing the EV game. Everything from used Bolts ~$15k to $100K+ trucks. I've had a 2017 Bolt since 2020. Drives great. Great sound system. Averaging 3.5-4.0 miles/kw easy. 99% home charging on simple 120v outlet. I have 2 kids now and it's been simply worry-free. Absolutely perfect daily driver. 220+ miles range (newer 66 kw battery). Only downside, for some, is the 50kw max charging rate.
@@InuranusBrokoffYeah, you can get a 2021 Model 3 for 18k after tax credits right now. That gives you 5 miles per kWh, much more space than the Bolt, and 250kw charging, as well as access to Supercharger network. They’re surprisingly fun to drive. The cheapest Tesla is still about as fast as a Porsche Boxster or an eco boost Mustang with the performance package.
@@InuranusBrokoff Not for cheap EVs Used Model 3s are basically $10k more than a used Chevy Bolt. You can argue it's worth that much more, but I would argue that a Bolt with 225-250+ miles of range for $15k is the best deal for any EV ever. Even if you're making $100-$120k per year, you should not be justifying car purchases in the $40k price range. So new Teslas are really not justified for you. Unless it's a really cool car, like a sports car type thing, there is no reason to buy a luxury-priced vehicle unless you're making at least around 160k USD/year. Entirely dependent on what COL area you live in though. $160k in NYC absolutely does not justify buying a nice car (though, owning any car in NYC is stupid). Like I don't want some shitty, bottom of the line, used Tesla when it's still going to cost me $25,000. If I'm going to buy some shitty, bottom of the line, used EV $15,000 is WAY more justifiable.

@@SnappyWasHere I mean, a Ram 2500 (depending on equipped powertrain) has +50% towing capacity, +100% payload capacity, and can match or exceed that distance with a load behind it. Stunning to me they didn’t just build NACS (J3400) right into the vehicle. With the vehicle release so close to Supercharger access, should have jumped in with both feet. I suspect it’d be better to buy Gen 2 when it’s converted over to the new standard.
NACS would have been nicer, but using an adapter is not a big deal tho. And currently you can only charge at the full 350 kW power on CCS DC fast chargers (Tesla Superchargers are underpowered for this).

Some fun numbers: 205 kWh is 738 MJ. The two A1B nuclear reactors on the Gerald Ford class 100 kiloton supercarriers produce 125 MW of electricity each. So the US Navy's newest aircraft carrier can produce 1 Silverado EV worth of charge every 3 seconds.
I had an interesting take on this truck. I am a Rivian R1T owner, but had one of these for a 2k mile road trip. First I will say, this thing really does get range for days! So much starting range! But thats where my love affair ended.... I was never able to get more then 180Kwh out of any chargers and I mean dozens of chargers most rated to 350Kwh. I averaged around 140-160Kwh while charging. Not bad and palatable in most vehicles... But in this vehicle... Where I was averaging 1.6M/Kwh @75 MPH on all seasons, not AT's I had to spend A TON of time charging. Im sure if you can get this thing up to 300Kwh while charging this will be a super impressive vehicle, but with todays charging infra this truck is only impressive for road tripping when road tripping is within 450 miles of your house. Chevy also REALLY needs to figure out how to rate the ac in the cabin while charging with todays software it automatically derates the charging curve to keep the cabin cool, meaning I had to spend an hour and a half in a Walmart 6 times because with the AC turned on and set to 62 with it being 91 outside, it derated to 75Kwh.... My Rivian on public charging tends towards the same 150-200Kwh and does get more rarely, but the battery is near half the size and even on All Terrain's at 75 mph I am seeing 1.9 M/Kwh, on all seasons I see 2.1 m/kwh which means the miles go further and im charging less. This truck would be Steller if the charging infra was actually there to support it. Also I have to say... After 2k miles I had a TON of rattles, all on-road, is that just GM quality these days?
Thank you. For my use the Bolt EV is the best. Heated seats & steering wheel, aggressive one pedal regen, leather seats, size very near the Honda Fit my wife loved, but is sadly not made anymore. And to top it off, though we do not have a huge battery we can get 5 m/kWh. All for 1/3 the price of this Silverado. The Bolt is coming back for 2026.
An early interview with a Chevy engineer, she said "Avalan...Silverado!" So even they know, lol! I think most agree it was done for name recognition alone.
It's certainly more of a spiritual Avalanche successor. But I think the naming was a more of a marketing move. The Mustang Mach-E isn't really a mustang at all. But that name gave it better brand recognition.

12:24 Exactly... and exactly why I would never own one. Good job, Chevy. I'm not a fan of the glass roof, so I'd love a trim without one, but that range... very nice.
Also hate glass roofs. Porsche is the only I’ve seen to option it out. Terrible insulator, great conductor of heat, rock chips/breaks, and when I want to look outside I get out.
@@ChristopherStandardTime I feel like this is less of an issue than you're imagining. Unless you live in a area with notorious large hail storms, I doubt it would be that big a deal. How often do rock chips even damage your wind shield? And that's literally just perpendicular to the road? Glass roofs are exposed to basically zero rock chips.
Top of the line gas Silverados are well into the 80k range. 10k premium doesn’t seem that far off. I’m sure they’ll have versions that cost significantly less
I have a family member that gets cars like this, drives them for two years, and has another new car/truck. Probably leasing but damn, it can cost a lot to do it like that.
You can open and close the frunk with the key fob. The regen on demand paddle acts as an auto hold if you tap it while at a stop sign or traffic light. I got up to 487 miles on mine so far. Plus it will drive itself. Drove 300+ miles on the intestate without touching the steering wheel.

There is a lot to hate (price, weight, no CarPlay, ect) but it's an earnest effort from GM and that is all you can really ask for at this point in the EV revolution..
I think with a more modern battery chemistry and some cutdowns on weight here and there, it could go under 3 tons...and actually be a bit more feasable. Also wouldn't like to be a brake pad in it!
Not really it's in the neighborhood of your 1 ton and above trucks. That said this it is a lot of weight for a 1/2 ton truck so definitely reconsider driving it on soft ground.
I can’t afford this thing but I love it. Maybe get one second hand if they’re reliable in the future or even better if ev prices drop as the technology becomes more commonplace but regardless of price I think GM did a great job, that said if I do get a new truck anytime soon it’ll probably be a mid trim Silverado/Sierra gas truck.
I work at the Spring Hill EV plant and they currently build the LYRIQ. It and the Acura ZDX both use the same batteries and amount of cells. Each car gets 12 cells, I believe the Silverado gets double the amount of cells to around 24 per battery. So the range isn't shocking honestly.
It is a *lot* of money for a vehicle... but as you said it is depreciating asset - and over the last 60 years 75-82% of Americans buy used. So what about buying a used EV truck? After 2-3 years it's depreciated 30-40% (once the EV drops below $25k, there is an additional one time $4k federal used EV credit as well). Obviously 40% off 100k is still 60k (which is still a lot) however with the large battery capacity on this you can only charge to like 60% SOC for daily commutes and increase the lifespan (15-25 years estimate) by like another 20-60% so potentially this EV after 5-7 years (where it's down to 30-40k) might still be a good buy (we'll have to see).
@@lonerider68 $60k is still too much for me to spend on a vehicle. That's still almost $1,000 a month. Stupid money that's far better off in my 401k than flushing down the toilet.
@@jonq8714 It's true that you should always have you 401k maxed before basically any other purchase or "upgrade" a vehicle. However, if you are even consider buying a new vehicle (where the *median* price is over 40k, meaning half of all new vehicles sell for that or more)... you should probably already have your 401k (and perhaps your 529 plan) maxed out. That being said, my previous gas vehicle was 26k out the door... but at 20 mpg combined and requiring premium gas, I paid around $25-30k in gas after driving it for 180k. My BEV got unlimited lifetime free charging at DC chargers and I also get free charging at my company office. So for around 80k miles - I really haven't paid to charge it - that's like $13-16k worth of gas. Obviously that was a particularly good deal (ontop of getting $7.5k federal EV credit and 2.5k state credit) - but there are some EV incentives where you can get like 3 years free charging which won't make will never make a 100k car affordable.... the original Rivian R1T were $60k after fed EV credit and after 3-4 years the will be below $40k - still a bit of a splurge, but less of one (if it means your payload, range and towing needs as BEV of today in general don't fit those use cases well).
@@jonq8714 To be sure, you should always be maxing out your 401k (and your 529 plan if you have kids) before doing any type of luxury or upgrade purchase as in the modern world, owning asset (e.g. stocks and homes) it the primarily way to rise up to the upper middle-class (for better or worse - this type of wealth accumulation is causing huge wealth disparities) However with the Jan 2023 median vehicle price above 40K (ie half vehicles purchase were 40k or higher) - I think most people who are buying a new vehicle (let alone a new EV) should be doing that anyway. A plug-in hybrid might be the best option for many people looking to buy something right now. Just like with regular car buying.. it might help to go for deals. My previous gas car was $26k in 2007 (that would $40k today when adjusted for inflation). But over 180k miles at a terrible 20mpg (it was suppose to be 25mphg but it underperformed with a roofbox) and premium gas, it probably cost me $25-30k in gas. The BEV I got afterwards had federal $7.5k EV rebate (as of jan 2024, that rebate now the full 7.5k even if you owe less than that in taxes, and you get it immediately on day of purchase) and 2.5k state EV rebate and I got free DC fast charging for the lifetime (there are still some deals like that available) of the vehicle and my company office has free 240V charging - so I haven't paid much to charge it over the last 80k miles, which would be about $13-16k in gas. None of that makes an EV cheaper than it's combustion equivalent, but it narrows the price gap over time. For instance the original Rivian R1T was $61k after EV rebate and after 3-5 years that is down to $36k-40k (2-3 year old Chevy Bolts are below $15k now). Of course all of these still have been caveats as no BEV today really handles towing very well (unless you call paying over 100k to get a triple size battery a solution).
I like it a lot and the 16’s camera is surprisingly accurate. All those bells and whistles are pretty impressive but it looks really low. What kind of approach/departure angles can one expect? What would be the feasibility of adding a lift kit to an EV?-a very popular option here on the big island of Hawaii
Can't really call the Tesla a truck. It's completely non-functional as a truck; it loses 20% range when the tonneau is open because of the ridiculous shape. Because of the angles, you can't really throw anything in from the side, only from the rear. Which also makes it really difficult to even use the decent sized bed(anyone shorter than 6-0 can't reach anything mid/far back in bed without getting in the bed).
Your funny. The cybertruck get 10% more with the cover closed because it has the factory cover. The ridiculous shape makes that 10% possible. You will not see that improvement with other pickups. I have been hearing this " you can't really throw anything in from the side," from people who have never owned a 1/2 or 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive pickup. While you can "throw" things in, the boxes are too far up in the air to let you reach in and get stuff back out. I have a 1/2 K1500 and I can pick stuff up just along the box wall. I imagine if one has a 1/2 4WD from the F100 era you can reach in. I know the 1973 IH 4WD I used to drive was much lower.

99% of Americans that drive a truck has never hauled anything in the bed other than their groceries. Guaranteed. Everyone buys a truck because it's just an American thing to do. It stands for the honest working man.
I mean I don't know if this is somebody that doesn't actually live in this country but 95% of the trucks you see on the road don't actually belong to Marlboro Man. I like what GM's doing here but damn, that price. These manufacturers gotta do something to bring the sticker down...across the board.

@@Mouwcat I realize GM's not leading in the battery chemistry area. Power density is a little light and I'd like to see how well they age after a few charge/discharge cycles. I'd also like to see how fast they take a charge in optimum conditions on a L3 Tesla supercharger, compared to a Tesla. Guessing it'd be slower. Two things:
1. The range on this is why I could never buy a Cybertruck. Tesla is charging you the premium price, but refusing to put enough battery in it to give the range it needs (and that they promised).
2. You didn't mention one HUGE thing about charging: the location of the charge port is the same as that of all of the Teslas, so when it goes to a Tesla supercharger, it doesn't need to take up two spaces to charge!
For people who tow large loads frequently this is the truck.

6:03 Omg Marques, you mean the Avalanche. Silverado's never had the mid-gate.
A used bolt is a great value for a local commuter car. The 50kw max charging hampers for trips. That should get sorted with the next gen version.
Tesla is kind of crushing the EV game. 🤫
@@InuranusBrokoff Not for cheap EVs
Used Model 3s are basically $10k more than a used Chevy Bolt.

@@SnappyWasHere For now and depending on location.
In some states the lowest rate is $0.26kWh, so double which is still not bad. Problem is electricity rates are controlled much more by local politicians than gas and oil. Enjoy the cheap ride now, but in the future everyone will regret this switch from a price standpoint.
Also understand that $0.13/kWh is the equivalent of paying $4.38 per gallon based on energy purchased. 33.7 kWh's of energy in a gallon of gas, 40 in a gallon of diesel.

The styling is pretty cool. Kind of reminds me of 90's Japanese car makers trying to make their cars more masculine and beefier for the American market, by making the bumpers way bigger. Very fun styling. 100,000$ is pure comedy for a truck, but it's neat.
So I should get one of those reactors and never worry about changing again?
Hahhahahahahs I love this comment so damn much thank you
I had an interesting take on this truck.
Polestar also doesn't have an ignition button and i do love that
The fact that ‘Avalanche’ flew right over Chevys head is nuts.
An early interview with a Chevy engineer, she said "Avalan...Silverado!" So even they know, lol!
I think most agree it was done for name recognition alone.
Avalanche didn't sell, no point using the name of a product that didn't sell. Silverado is the vehicle that the company needs customers to buy.
I was going to say the same thing 😂😂 loved that thing as a kid and this reminded me of it immediately
It's certainly more of a spiritual Avalanche successor. But I think the naming was a more of a marketing move. The Mustang Mach-E isn't really a mustang at all. But that name gave it better brand recognition.

Can I get an EV truck that isn't $100k please? Good lord, that's just an absolutely insane amount of money to spend on a depreciable asset.

PHYSICAL HVAC CONTROLS FTW!!!! Excellent design choice Chevy!
@@danharold3087 it's "you're"...and, yes, I am.
Only I speak in facts here, which is unfortunate for you Elon fanboys who can't admit when you've been bamboozled.
Fact: the cyber truck is highly inefficient with the tonneau open. It's been tested, quite often, and proven to be a solid 15%, and up to 20% especially at speeds of more than 50 mph.
Clearly you're not a real truck owner, or at least you're one of the truck owners who has never really used it as a truck. The standard large trucks you mentioned all have other means of getting into the beds from the side as well as the back.
But, hey, you go on and keep telling yourself that it's a "truck" 😂

Lets get back to something we have sources for. Efficiencies.
Cybertruck is the most efficent with the box closed.
Only the Lightning is more efficient with the cybertruck box open. Using your 15% and the least efficient CyberTruck the 3 motor cyberbeast.
472×1.15 = 542.8
These are from out of spec motoring. All tested on the same loop at 70mph.
Model Efficiency (Wh/mi) Range (miles) Battery Capacity (kWh)
Cybertruck (Cyberbeast) 472 254 123
Ford F-150 Lightning 511 255 131
Rivian R1T 545 289 135
GMC Hummer EV 811 303 212
Silverado EV 3WT 588 329 203
Silverado EV RST 571 387 210+

It's tough to use a truck for work when the payload is limited to just 1,000 pounds. In construction, you typically need a payload capacity of 1,500 to 2,500 pounds because materials are heavy.
Most people who buy trucks not only don't work in construction, they don't even use the bed of the truck lol
@@minch5537 but when you need to use it for construction stuff it should be a good option. It’s 100k dollar truck that has the same cargo weight capacity of lots of medium size suvs. That is just odd.
1000 pound payload capacity is pathetic. After it’s loaded with people it would leave legit nothing to put in the bed.
@@johnnyfive-bc beginning of the silverado EV's they're definitely not built for construction work yet, more experimental and for fun use now.
Trucks are used for work every day with 1000-1500 payload. My loaded F150 has maybe 1350 lb of range and I tow a 8500 lb trailer
