I bought my wife a side by side 410 and she liked it. I might try and get one for her. Every Henry I own is butter smooth, beautiful wood, and quick to handle with high quality control standards which I appreciate.
Chuck Beef amen on that! I have 15 Henrys now, been buying Henry rifles since they came out with the Deluxe Engraved Original Rifle. I buy the latest version of those every year they come out with one, and I have a Iron Frame that I reload 44-40 for...just bought the 20 inch .410, it’s my dedicated squirrel gun. Can’t wait to try some rifled slugs out of it, all my Henrys have been very accurate and have had unmatched overall quality. Best guns out there today as far as I’m concerned, some are niche guns such as this, but if it fits the task you need it for, you won’t be disappointed.
Too bad slugs are virtually impossible to find other than low quality Turkish imports. I have had the greatest success with Brenneke, Federal and Winchester ( in that order). Only the Brenneke penetrates decently. The others are Foster slugs which fragment quickly with little penetration.
I purchased the 24 inch with invector chokes for small game hunting. I've shot many rounds of trap with it and average in the 20s. For reference with a 12 gauge I'm a 24 or 25 out of 25 shooter. So I only drop a couple of birds going to a 410. The gun handles and swings quite well for a light and small frame. Can't wait to bring it out for small game in a couple of weeks.
That's a sweet looking .410, in my younger days I small game hunted with an H&R .410 single shot. It brought down a lot of game, still have not an expensive gun but priceless to me. As it was a gift from my long departed parents. I may have to get one of these for my son.
James, I have/do own 5 Henry rifles, my last one my wife bought for me, a steel Big Boy in .357 mag/38 special. I have shot my 22lr or 22 mag and loved and still do them. The Big Boy Steel I have not shot, weather problems are my delays. You will never regret having a Henry, well, maybe you will regret having just one! Good Luck!
I bet Henry makes a coach gun one day, but it will be expensive. The machining it takes to regulate two barrels is labor intensive. The CZ Hammer Coach is close to $1000, but it’s cost is negated some since it’s a Turkish built gun (just like many wood and steel shotguns these days). It’s a beautiful piece, I have one, but I would definitely find a way to buy an American made coach gun any day. If I had the capital, I would start my own gun company for sure, and I would do the same thing Henry does in terms of emphasis on American parts and workers and build high quality cowboy era guns. Coach guns, Spencer rifles, trapdoor rifles, Winchester models, even revolvers. Just about any gun you saw in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Summarizing from my point of view and comparing it to a modern pump shotgun: The Henry is more inconvenient to load The Henry is less versatile with its fixed barrel The Henry will not accept 3" shells (a showstopper for any 410 shotgun) The Henry MSRP $947 Mossberg 500E MSRP $431 add 18.5" cylinder bore barrel for $75 Remington 870 Express $480 On the other hand, the Henry is very handsome and I'm sure of the highest quality.

Nice gun plinkster wish it took 3inch 410 loads. So least use magnum 410 loads. Still with 2 1/2 make a great small game gun for a young kid or older guy just don't want the pump 12ga
Just purchased a Henry 410 with the 24 inch barrel. It has a choke tube. The instructions in the manual indicate that the use of slugs are not recommended with a full choke tube. Is there a choke tube that can be used with slugs? Thank you!
410 is a .41 bore. You can shoot 410 out of a .45 bore, but not the other way around. The taurus judge is chambered for .45 which allows 410 to be shot, but I'm guessing that since this is dedicated 410 shotgun, the bore will be .41 in order to maximize accuracy, patterning, and efficiency of the 410 round. A .45 bore smoothbore would not be very accurate or efficient with either 410 or 45 colt rounds, and if it was rifled, the shot pattern for 410 would spread so fast (and create a "doughnut" pattern) as to be virtually non-effective past point blank range. It works for the Judge due the short barrel (not enough distance for the rifling to have much effect on shotshells), and the fact that it is designed to be a very close range weapon.
My 20” is incredibly accurate shooting both Brenneke and Federal 1/4 oz. slugs. I strongly suggest you install a Skinner rear sight on the receiver. I saw 1.5” groups at 50 yards....drops like a stone beyond that though.
Since they made the 410 from the 45-70 receiver (plenty strong), and .444 Marlin will chamber in a 410...it wouldn't take much to make a .444 variant. Please, Henry. I'll pay cash. I wonder if they use the same barrel stock for the 410 and the 45-70. If so, that would make it even easier.
I have the 20" model and saw 1-2" groups at 50 yards with Winchester 1/5oz slugs. I swapped out the buckhorn sight for a receiver mounted Skinner aperture sight and have no problem hitting a clay at 100 yards. For some reason, Remington and Federal slugs were much less accurate.
@@musicmatty67 Hope you're not in California. Its so bad, I literally have to get third party brand or travel out of states! I ain't about to wait for ammo while the criminals are freely roaming around my city.
I recently purchased the 410 side gate steel model As a multipurpose Woodsmans gun. It actually holds 6 rounds in the tube and 1 in the chamber. The 7 round capacity is a lot of fire power when you consider it can shoot rifle slugs and buckshot. The only problem is now… You can’t find rifle slugs anywhere for this gun.
That just don't make sense to me that all you can shoot out of it is 2 1/2 shells. Why not chamber in 3" and let people make up their own mind what shell they want to shoot? Is the gun that limited?
I’ll make everyone a bet if all of fans of 410 /45 long colt ask we could get a rifled barrel and 3”shells (@ the very least a rifled choke tube for 24” barrel that will run out the 45 long colt then you got what every body else would make BUT IT WOULD BE A HENRY
I've been looking at the 20 inch smoothrifle for myself, but then I got thinking about using the shotgun for skeet. Will the 20 inch barrel give a good pattern at skeet ranges, or do I need the 24 inch shotgun? Of course, if I do buy the 24 inch model, I will need more than just the full choke for deer or defense.
Many farm country, deer hunting zones are shotgun only. Would be awesome if Federal or Winchester would make a .410 sabot slug . And Henry would make a rifled choke for the 24 Inch version. That would make this Henry lever shotgun close to a 30-30 deer rifle. How sweet.
Just so everybody knows the 410 is just hard hitting as the 12 don't let the size of the shell fool you. Every shotgun has it's limits due to the powder charge.
If you guys could make a side loading gate model. It would blow other companies out of the water! Also could you guys make a original henry in .44 mag?
I get where you're coming from. The loading tube threw me off at first, but when I realized they are staying true to the 1860 design, I actually understood and it's grown on me. I like that you can open the action and drop a round in without touching the loading tube. Besides, if they start making a loading gate, then it just another "Marlin". They are staying unique, and appear to have a big following these days. I will have my Big Boy Steel .45 Colt shipped in, in the next couple of days, and I can't wait to get it out on the range.
The rifles that we buy from Henry are modernized from the original front loading design. Even that was faster than dropping powder down the barrel & ramming a patched ball down overtop that.
Just curious, You state that Henry products are made in America, America is a very large Continent, Just what part of America are you talking about? The U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America?
.410 is too small of a shell in my opinion.. i wish they were at least 20, or i wish you guys at henry would make side by side double barrels with the hammer, like old coachguns
You never choke a slug of any kind. All you are going to do with a choke and slug is damage your chokes and maybe the barrel too. A slug should have no restriction.
Up to a full choke is just fine for 410 slugs. In fact, most 410 shotguns come from the factory as fixed full-choke models and are fine for slugs. It's generally not recommended to go to a smaller bore than full choke.
Its not a strong enough design for that much pressure and gases that can cause the gun to basically blow back into your face.... Take a look at world war 1 style lever action 12ga they have to be made completely different!!!
Les Lieb the dimension’ of the action is the limiting factor. They modified the .45/70 action to use the 2 1/2” .410. The 3” shell is just too much longer to use thru this action.

With 4 shot , I saw pretty decent patterning even out of my cylinder bore 20” model. 15 yards was ideal but 20 was still decent.
Finding 410 shells is just about impossible. So I am wondering if I could shoot a 45 Colt?

One question. Why would they not chamber the .410 for 3" shells? Only 2-1/2? 3" shells are great for rabbits.
