Great reactions, Christy. Aunt May is a senior in the comics. She gets younger with each series. If and when they do another Spartan, she may end up as a 20-something.
Yeah, I wouldn't quite say it was going to be a mutiny, but it was a pretty hot topic when it appeared they were going with a younger, more sexified, Aunt May because people thought it was disingenuous. Marisa Tomai did her thing though!
Stan Lee had Uncle Ben say the great power, great responsibility line in the early Spider-Man comics. It was the 60s and he was paraphrasing president John F Kennedy in a speech about the Cuban Missle Crisis.
YES! So happy you enjoyed this so much and I LOVE that you kept mentioning the camera style and transitions and all. Sam Raimi has a wonderful flare and unique style that is so fun. While you should definitely check out his Evil Dead movies that kicked off his career, I think you would really enjoy his movie, The Quick And The Dead! Much love!! ❤❤❤
Well, Cristy, you nailed the hammer on the head when you said Spidey would blame himself forever. In the comics, that's one of Spidey's defining characteristics. He takes EVERYTHING personally. Even things he's either not in control of, or not even involved, but he blames himself if anyone isn't saved. Like, Susan Storm (the Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four) once told him that he really needed to let the self-guilt go, but Peter admitted he either couldn't nor knew how to.
@@coopsdogg6925 Also, the Bible; Luke 12:48. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." Obviously the words are different, but I think the message is the same.
@@TheRawrnstuff yeah, this idea is old AF, most ppl think was uncle Ben just for lack of broader knowledge. He doesn't even said it in the original comicbook. They retconed later on to put the words on his mouth.
There are obviously _precursors_ to the phrase that can be found throughout history, but the _specific_ wording of the phrase was indeed first popularized by the Spider-Man comics and cemented into popular culture by this film.
The origin story of the crook that Peter let go and shot uncle Ben became a major motivation for him in the comics. He promised to never look away again
Stan Lee did indeed cameo in almost every Marvel movie/show/videogame that involved characters he created, starting with 1989's The Trial of the Incredible Hulk; the last one he filmed before passing was for Avengers: Endgame. This version of Spider-Man was controversial at the time for the organic web shooters, where every other version has mechanical ones, typically designed and built by Peter himself. But that change didn't prevent the trilogy from being massively successful - even though Spider-Man 3 was considered the worst, Tobey is still considered the best version of the character. There was a trailer for this movie that showed a helicopter getting caught in a giant web Spider-Man had built between both the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. That scene, and all others featuring the Towers, were removed from the film due to the 9/11 terror attacks - and the New Yorkers on the bridge throwing stuff at Goblin added in the spirit of New Yorkers coming together. The most interesting thing this movie does is make Norman and Goblin split personalities, whereas in the comics Norman was just flat-out evil. Willem Dafoe plays both sides perfectly.
I believe the Norman/Goblin split personality thing originated in the 1994 Spider-Man animated series. There are a few elements of the Raimi films that were taken from that show rather than the comics, particularly a lot of the stuff with [redacted villain] in Spider-Man 3.
@@Zomdra Ahh I see, I'm not familiar with the 1994 animated series; the only animated Spider-Man I watched was "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" in the 80s, with Firestar and Iceman (until "Into The Spider-Verse")
After watching all these, No Way Home is gonna be quite the experience. Quite lucky you get to watch it all so quick, compared to all of us having to have wait and watch it over decades.
The spider that bites Peter is a combination of mainly real with a CG bite. The colours on the Spider were painted 🎨 on by Jens Schnabel an artist subcontractor from Warner Bros who meticulously painted the colours on by putting it to sleep!! 🤯 The spider falling onto Tobey's hand was real. The "Hero" Spider itself was a brownish Steatoda, a non leathal relation of the black widow In 2002 I bought a 200 page book called "Behind The Mask Of Spider-Man : The Secrets Of The Movie which I still own to this day!! 🥰
Many say Iron Man started the Marvel craze, but forgetting this absolute brilliant depiction of Spider-Man was what made them even consider doing Iron Man. I think it's due to taking so many between them.
This will forever be my favorite Spider-Man movie. I remember me and my big brother as kids being absolutely amazed seeing this for the first time. The vivid color of the suit really stuck out in my mind even now the colors in this movie look better than the new movies to me
Super enjoyed watching this reaction! You did a great job. :) Growing up, I watched each of these in theaters. Well, the first two at least, maybe the third as well but I don't remember that 100%. Anyway - I mega enjoyed that experience. :) Watching this in theaters as a kid was THRILLING! This was one of the first comic book hero movies and it set the bar high! :)
You’ve opened the door not just to the OG Spider-Man films, but the world of Sam Raimi. Maybe during Halloween, you should try the Evil Dead series directed by Spider-Man director Sam Raimi. They’re gory, but super fun. He also directed Drag Me To Hell, The Quick and the Dead (western), A Simple Plan (crime/thriller), and Darkman (superhero).
The classic Spider-Man movie, that's more comic accurate in a lot of ways and that the recent only totally changed up. Glad you're getting the origin story now
@@Mop_Head314 Personally I like the change - excluding the webs, Spider-Man's powers aren't particularly spider-related, so it's weird that it's the _webs_ that he needs to build a gadget for. Even the spider-sense isn't really something any spiders have. Natural webs make Spider-Man more... spider-y.
This is a pretty sweet line-up, but... and I'm no big Spidey fan, but I would still include the two animated Spidey flicks IF you haven't watched them already (2018's Into the Spider-Verse, and 2023's Across the Spider-Verse). I like all the iterations, but personally, 2018's flick taught me more about Spidey's heart than all the rest combined.

Its always so fascinating seeing everyone’s first reaction to the wrestlers division getting their money stolen and applauding Peters ability to stand on business. Every reactor I see applauds him for doing what he does in the moment, which is so true to life really. Wether it was his place to intervene or not, he had all the power to stop him from doing what he did but still chose not to and unfortunately Uncle Ben paid the price for it afterwards. It not only displays great storytelling with having our expectations of the moment after but then really points the mirror to us, the audience. How many situations have we been in where we had the power to do the right thing but let our vices drive us? Part of the reason why i love tjis movie so much really is because of how much its lessons still ring true; we can still choose to do the right thing if we have the power to do so. Even if it’s thankless. Its a responsibility to be the bigger man.
Appart from the web actually shooting from his body, instead of being and invention, this is the more comic book accurate in terms of character representation, out of all the 3 Spiderman variants we have gotten so far
good review Cristy, I'm glad you're watching 2 right away because it will keep up the continuity of their character development, as does 3. I definitely think MJ recognized the kiss, and I often wonder if Aunt May suspected anything, see what you think. El suero del duende Verde era un intento de réplica del suero de super soldado del capitán América pero no les funcionó y es por eso que el duende es tan fuerte físicamente pero mentalmente es super inestable
Fun fact (or not so fun): At 21:24 when Bone Saw got dropped on his neck, that legitimately damaged the neck of the actor, former WWE wrestler "Macho Man" Randy Savage. That actually affected him for quite a few years. Unfortunately, Savage passed away in May 2011 after suffering a heart attack while driving.
20:09 The other cameo, Bruce Campbell made his name in Sam Rami's Evil Dead trilogy (and later series) and makes an appearance in most of Rami's movies, including each of these 3 Spiderman movies
When you realize that if Spider-Man hadn't jumped out of the way of the skiff at the end then he and Green Goblin would have been pinned together in death.
Cristy is sharper than a Samurai Sword. So perceptive. It's uncanny how often she is right about what's going to happen. Her reactions are the bomb. Weird-Al wrote an amazing song based on this movie called "Ode to a Sueperhero" which is a lyrical adaptation of Billy Joel's Piano Man. You should definitely check it out.
They’re both just fine, as they’re two different versions of the character, just as Andrew and Tom embody different versions of Peter Parker. Both things can be correct.
@TheEmery223 incorrect. Why is the character called Flash? Answer because he runs fast. He's a football player. Flash in the MCU is a DJ and on the academic bowl team. Why exactly is he called Flash? MCU Flash didn't have to be Flash. In fact in some comics, Ned bullies Peter. He could have been Ned and Ned could have been Harry.
When I was a kid I would get my allowance which was 2 dollars a week. I would get the new issues as soon as I could. I loved this movie. It brought the comics to life. Action packed and nonstop humor it is worth the time spent.
30:37 I see you. Don't be shy let the music move through you and move you. 33:17 Three different Comic Titles: The Amazing Spider-Man, The Spectacular Spider-Man and the Incredible Spider-Man. 34:32 As "mean" as J.J. Jamerson appears to be, he has one important thing; Integrity. He could have easily pointed to Peter but did not. 34:53 And the Goblin, had Peter out cold for at least an hour, could have unmasked him, could have killed him but didn't.
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen. They happen because of you." That was Tom Holland's version talking about uncle Ben.
I remember in the movie tie in video game, there was a cheat code or something where you could play as the green goblin with his glider and everything and it was so fun
I think you were like most folks when you thought Peter was right to let the robber go. Also, when MJ turns around quickly after touching her lips at the end, I agree with you in that I think she may suspect that Peter is Spider-Man. Add that to the look she gave him in the Hospital with Aunt May, where he was describing the way she made a person (Peter) feel.... She knew he was talking about himself. She just thought, at the time, that he was being shy or coy. (Trivia: Jaws) I can't wait for S-M 2!! I want to know what you think about the cinematography and effects in that one!
@@bryce253 Why? I always preferred the organic web shooters personally, it kind of detracts from Peter's intended "everyman" quality for him to be such a super genius that he can invent something as advanced as the web shooters as a teenager. I know Peter's intelligence level varies depending on the writer/continuity, but personally, I prefer it when he's just a really smart kid and not an absolute world-class genius.
17:48 To be fair Tom Holland's Spider-Man created his own web shooters and web fluid. Designed his original homemade suit and then provided Tony with ideas on his new suit that was made using Stark Tech. Peter in the comics crafted a homemade suit and then got his iconic classic suit from a TV show producer after his wresting match. Peter then appeared on TV as Spider-Man with his new suit. In this film Peter once again takes part in a wresting match wearing a homemade suit but this time without the TV show aspect. So instead of a TV producer Peter himself commissioned a suit from a tailor, using his drawings as a reference. This detail was revealed in the official Spider-Man (2002) novel, same novel also revealed that Peter grew up reading Captain America comics, fun little greater Marvel Universe reference. The only big difference is Tony provided Peter was a high tech suit. Peter in most renditions never designs his classic suit beyond using drawings as a reference. It's not until Peter is in college that he began to start developing his own suits, using resources from villains to teams like The Fantastic Four and Avengers giving him a hand. I feel like that's one downside of the Sam Rami films. Because this Spider-Man is less tech based, uses organic web shooters we rarely see his more creative tech side something the later films do a better job at showcasing.

Being this willing to settle for absolute slop garbage like the Garfield Spider-Man films (and even going the extra length of going out of your way to shield them from any criticism) is nothing more than a great way to ensure that superhero films continue to get worse. Settling for garbage only results in you receiving more garbage.
And before you complain that my response was too "mean" or that I sound "angry," you should carefully consider the fact that I very obviously don't care. Don't go around saying very stupid things if you can't handle being replied to in very honest terms.
Tobey is my fav Spiderman and always will be!
And J.K. Simmons is legend here!
19:22 It IS Uncle Ben who first said "With great power comes great responsibility."
Actually it was Voltaire, about 300 years before comics existed, but yes, Uncle Ben/Stan Lee popularised the saying.
@@coopsdogg6925 Also, the Bible; Luke 12:48.
"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
Obviously the words are different, but I think the message is the same.
Mary jane being bitten by the spider instead of peter, sounds like a good idea for the marvel what if series 😃
15:40 “Dude, I wanna have spider powers” - me: “get in line, no…the BACK of the line, we’ve been waiting for ours too”
The spider that bites Peter is a combination of mainly real with a CG bite. The colours on the Spider were painted 🎨 on by Jens Schnabel an artist subcontractor from Warner Bros who meticulously painted the colours on by putting it to sleep!! 🤯
The spider falling onto Tobey's hand was real. The "Hero" Spider itself was a brownish Steatoda, a non leathal relation of the black widow
In 2002 I bought a 200 page book called "Behind The Mask Of Spider-Man : The Secrets Of The Movie which I still own to this day!! 🥰
24:04 I lived in NYC in 2002 in Manhattan and there was just as much traffic 😆
Many say Iron Man started the Marvel craze, but forgetting this absolute brilliant depiction of Spider-Man was what made them even consider doing Iron Man. I think it's due to taking so many between them.
@@BlakeN-o6l The character is Marvel. Stan Lee himself literally is in the movie, dolt.
The "wrestler" was actually Randy "macho man" Savage, a long time professional wrestler from the early 80s and through the 90s.
This is set in Queens not in Manhattan. It is more neighborhood like the closer to Long Island you get.
The actors in this one, like Aunt May, look like they did in the comics. Unlike the other movies.
This will forever be my favorite Spider-Man movie. I remember me and my big brother as kids being absolutely amazed seeing this for the first time. The vivid color of the suit really stuck out in my mind even now the colors in this movie look better than the new movies to me
19:31 A classic Bruce Campbell "cameo" ! He has also played characters in other Sam Raimi movies {this movie was one of those).
26:40 That's a great point. I'm glad you pointed it out. Cause the min ute Uncle Ben saw Peter he started smiling.
This Spider-Man and Peter are the GOATs and aunt mays speeches are the best too!
YAY! Spider month and a half!!!!!! WOOO! :) Loved the reaction :)
Aunt may was always an older woman not marisa toma
It's supposed to be like what someone thinks of when you say, let me introduce you to my grandma.
And then instead you walked in with Halle Berry...
31:49
😮"Did you see that?"
🤣😂🤣
I loved this movie because it’s created and edited to look like you are reading the comics ❤
I like that the hand on the shelf behind Cristy is in the web shooter position!
That Norman Osborn guy seems like a nice dude.
He's something of a scientist himself.
So cool you also played Cinderella in 1st grade ^_^
Super enjoyed watching this reaction! You did a great job. :)
Growing up, I watched each of these in theaters.
I'm SO with you on this!
I LOVE watching The Evil Dead! Those movies are so awesome. :)
The classic Spider-Man movie, that's more comic accurate in a lot of ways and that the recent only totally changed up. Glad you're getting the origin story now
The main thing that's not comic accurate is the web shooters
@@Mop_Head314 Personally I like the change - excluding the webs, Spider-Man's powers aren't particularly spider-related, so it's weird that it's the _webs_ that he needs to build a gadget for. Even the spider-sense isn't really something any spiders have. Natural webs make Spider-Man more... spider-y.
@@TheRawrnstuff and another thing is it makes no sense a teenager is so smart he can make something scientists can't
@@TheRawrnstuff The organic webbing is also central to one of the main plot points of Spider-Man 2, which is still the best Spider-Man film.
Don't worry, I will watch the animated films a little later down the line!
@@CristyReacts Sweet!
I didn't mean to sound 'ungrateful' if I did, lol, you already have enough on yer plate. 😂 Yeah, take a breather; tons of other flicks to be checked out!
I love a good origin story too. This is the best Spider-Man movie. Don't let anyone tell you different.
GREEN GOBLIN: HAHA YOUR FACE CRISTY!!!! 37:35
Appart from the web actually shooting from his body, instead of being and invention, this is the more comic book accurate in terms of character representation, out of all the 3 Spiderman variants we have gotten so far
Next movie Spider-Man 2 is the best movie of all the Spider-Man movies till date excited for your reaction to that🔥
good review Cristy, I'm glad you're watching 2 right away because it will keep up the continuity of their character development, as does 3. I definitely think MJ recognized the kiss, and I often wonder if Aunt May suspected anything, see what you think. I always liked Spiderman in general because his personal life was always troubled in some way. Anyway, enjoy part 2, and have a great day!
My childhood movie! Thanks for this Cristy
Awesome reaction of my favorite Spider-Man movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great performance by Willem Dafoe as well. He did a great job!
When you realize that if Spider-Man hadn't jumped out of the way of the skiff at the end then he and Green Goblin would have been pinned together in death.
“How can we make sure he’s ‘dead-dead’?” *3 minutes later he’s impaled by his glider*
Spider-Man was a perfect origin superhero movie - Spider-Man 2 is just a perfect superhero movie period.
With great Cristy videos comes great reviews.
HA! i love this
Cristy is sharper than a Samurai Sword. So perceptive. It's uncanny how often she is right about what's going to happen. Her reactions are the bomb. I enjoy it when she is surprised, or realizes something profound and she drops her jaw and she gasps and her eyes get all wide like they just might pop out. So very entertaining to watch. Love your work Cristy!!! Keep up the Great... Erm... I mean... AMAZING... work!!!
this comment made my entire day! you can't imagine my big big big smile right now:)
@@CristyReacts I'm delighted to hear it. I like when a realtor sees my comment and enjoys it and if my comment can bring you even a fraction of the enjoyment I get from your videos that makes me very happy. YOU just made MY day. Keep up the Amazing work!
AWWWWWWWWW, that pic of you as Cinderella, my heart!
I love how much of a jerk J.Jonah Jameson can be, he's still a good person at his core. Even when he was facing death, he wasn't going to tell Green Goblin Peter was the one taking Spider-man's pictures.
Weird-Al wrote an amazing song based on this movie called "Ode to a Sueperhero" which is a lyrical adaptation of Billy Joel's Piano Man. You should definitely check it out.
One thing these movies do much better than the MCU is their interpretation of Flash Thompson.
Oh yeah MCU Flash is nothing like he's supposed to be - a jock bully rather than an egotistical opportunist smart-ass
It’s not one thing that the Sony Spider-Man’s did better than the MCU. It’s a lot of things that they did better than the MCU Spider-Man. lol.
SO GLAD you are watching this! 😁 EXCELLENT REACTION! 👍☺
When I was a kid I would get my allowance which was 2 dollars a week. I would get the new issues as soon as I could. I loved this movie. It brought the comics to life. Action packed and nonstop humor it is worth the time spent.
You're in for a treat with the second one. Many still consider it one of the best superhero movies ever made.
Love this movie and for me the unic spiderman Tobey Maguire, great reaction and greetings from perú
Yes Uncle Ben was the first to say "With great power comes great responsibility " in the Spiderman comics.
I love Spider-Man
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen. They happen because of you." That was Tom Holland's version talking about uncle Ben.
🍍🥓🍕 They say in the making of the movie, Tobey actually caught the food on the tray in the cafeteria without CGI.
This is my Spiderman favorite, the OG
Best spiderman movie ever. We need more movies like this that has substance instead of heavy cgi bs to wow a crowd.
my favorite Spider-man movie, very comic book accurate. Unfortunately they go downhill from here. Two is pretty good, but three was less fun
2 is better than this one.
@@kizza9 2 is good, but I liked 1 better
As a long-time fan of Decker Shado, months that last 6 weeks are no biggie.
This is one of the only versions of Spider-Man with organic webshooters. Normally Peter invents mechanical ones.
Yeah and it was a terrible idea.
@@jlhanlon1980blud go watch ultimate spiderman tony gave peter ironsuit this was years before the movie even came out i hope you are a cap fan
