This is my favourite portrayal of how his "spider-sense" would work in real life, he's just hyper-aware of everything going on around him.

As for Aunt May and Uncle Ben, they were always portrayed as an elderly couple since Spidey’s first appearance in 1962. Versions of May and Ben after the Raimi trilogy were portrayed as 50-year olds as the filmmakers drew inspiration from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics from the 2000s where Peter’s aunt and uncle were slightly younger.
You just know that Stef is going to be a keeper for someone. Her calling MJ out for her shady behaviour.
She seems to be super loyal. That is a good thing.

It's worth mentioning Mary Jane is made to be an imperfect character - she's young and irrational at times, which is definitely off-putting for some, but I quite like it because it makes her interesting with a lot of room for growth. Currently she's from a broken, abusive home, working a job she hates, desperate for someone to validate her for who she is, and peter gives her that here. In this movie she's bouncing from guy to guy confessing her love because she's looking for her saviour, or just anyone who pays her positive attention, without knowing what love really is.
Also I think the peter/harry dynamic being set up is super interesting, as on the one hand peter is all harry has left (his mom is gone, his dad saw him as a disappointment, all the while treating peter like the proper son he never got), and now peter is holding in this massive secret. So much room for tension.

I know someone who came from a broken home worse than MJ's and they are way more screwed up than MJ, so she's pretty tame and weren't we all stupid when we were kids let alone having a messed up childhood.

Basically a 304
Goblin is such a special villain, even by todays standards. It is super rare for a hero to physically meet-let alone fight- a villain until the very end of the story, especially when it’s an origin story for both. Goblin and Spider-Man have five separate yet equally important confrontations starting as soon as they put on the masks:
-Their initial fight during the parade
-The rooftop scene where Goblin makes his offer
-The fire house where Spider-Man rejects him
-The bridge where Goblin targets civilians
-and it all culminates in their final confrontation in the graveyard/construction site
You don’t see that level of consistency in any other film, to have the villain’s story match the hero’s story almost step-for-step. That’s one of the many things that sets Goblin above the rest.
He grew on me, I didn’t like Raimi version of The Green Goblin at first because he looked like he belonged in the Power Rangers than spider-man.
Right. Most villains seem out of nowhere and unaffected by the hero until the hero stops them. But they shape each other here, back and forth

One of the few nitpicks is the cop that’s like ‘Citizen how come you didn’t stop the assailant with gun’
The robber shot Uncle Ben because he wanted his car. When Peter asks the officer what happened, the officer says it was a carjacking and presumably Uncle Ben resisted. As for Mary Jane liking three men at once, I have to cut her some slack. She’s 17 years old and just trying to figure things out like a lot of teenagers.

At 17 years old you're old enough to understand what's right and wrong, age is not an excuse. Unless you are a child, but at 17 you're not really a child. She literally cheated on every man she got in a relationship with, she knew what she was doing, she was not "confused" or "troubled".

I’m not sure if anyone else here mentioned that the part with the New Yorkers trying to help Spider-Man by throwing things at the Green Goblin was added very late in production (the bulk of the movie filmed before 9/11) as a sort of homage to NYC and its people.
This movie is very nostalgic for me. I remember seeing it for the first time at the movies when I was 15 and becoming obsessed with it for a while. I loved it so much I watched it over and over again.😂
So little insight into Peter Parker with information from the Spider-Man (2002) Novelization. Peter Parker was born on August 1983 to Richard and May Parker. Peter lived in Wisconsin until his parents were killed in a plane crash when Peter was only 4 years old. Peter is delivered to the home of Ben and May Parker in New York City. People even brings out some Captain America comments but it's never stated if Captain America was a real person in this universe or just a comic book character like Superman for example.
In Early to Mid 1990s Mary Jane moves in next door with her family. Peter now six years old forms a massive crush on Mary Jane. From 1996 to early 2002 Colombia university begins it's genetic research looking into interspecies genetics transmutations. They spend 5 years genetically enhancing spiders, basically incorporating the genetic does from differant species of spiders and placing them all into a single "super" spider with 15 in total. During these years Harry ends up at Midtown High where he strikes up a friendship with Peter Parker both around the age of 13.
Few years later an 18 year old peter goes on a field trip to Columbia university on April 10th 2002. This takes us to the opening of the film where we see Peter being bitten by one of these super spiders giving him his abilities. Something I find really interesting is in the comics and other takes on the character Peter was bitten at 15 so they made him slightly older in the film.
Makes since with how we go from Peter being bitten to graduating from High School. In the comics a 15 year old Peter has to manage his high school life alongside his job at the Daily Bugle and being Spider-Man. The film is the same as well but the High School aspect isn't a big focus after graduating.

Ive only watched this a few times when this came out and I was like 4 or 5 and watching it again, I realize how well Mary Jane character is made, being a teenage girl working a lot, not knowing what she wants, shes just trying to find some light in her darkness. But I was thinking the same things cuz I was taken aback like, “I had no idea MJ was a heartbreaker” lolll I was just as surprised as you 😂

Here's some fun facts you should know about Spider-Man going forward. Spider-Man is one of the physically strongest marvel character but in nearly every appearance of the character he always back. Only in a few instances have have they shown his true strength. Spider-Man skin is as durable as police Kevlar which is how he was able to take a pumpkin bomb AKA a grenade to the face and walk away with a few scratches. He has fast regeneration ability which gives him the ability to heal from near fatal wound within a day or two. Spider-Man also have super speed but not in the traditional sense of speed. Spidey speed is tied to his reflexes and his spider Sense which versions on precognition. Peter's also highly intelligent.
Not even close. He is well above a normal person for sure but doesn't make the list of "strongest marvel character" if we taking top 10 ...or top 20. He wouldn't even be the strongest amongst teams like X-men, Avengers, Fantastic 4, Guardians etc.

The spider that bit him was a real spider. The closeup cgi looked so bad they just used a real one for the closeup. probably a prop hand or cgi hand tho. but yeah they knocked it out and put it in a little harness to paint it blue and red, its normally just brown. It was also a trained actor and could act on cue like point A, B, C.
also, when he swung in to the billboard, it was a windshield...he was a bug on a windshield
The thing about MJ... She did jump from Flash to Harry to Spiderman to Peter... but it is not like time didn't pass from one to the next. It just seems sudden in "movie time".
Her high school sweetheart, Flash, was just that... high school. Harry was just there during her transition to "adult life", she never felt that strongly about him and he for her (made worse by dad not approving of her). Spiderman saved her and she became infatuated, a "rescuer romance". But her ordeal at the bridge made her realize that Peter was the one always there for her. But he put his "great responsibility" over his feelings to "save" her. In the comics this went on for DECADES... So I guess for me the movies' condensed time line was not so jarring like you see it.
Not to forget MJ did grow up in a home with an abusive father. She craves the love and acceptance of a male figure.

Someone's probably mentioned it already but Uncle Ben was shot because he refused to give his car up to the carjacker, because that's the kind of guy he is - also if someone's pointing a gun at you, you should absolutely give them what they want, unless what they want is to take you somewhere else.
For me this is my favorite Spiderman Trilogy (Story /Action/Music) . The Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy is my favorite (Story/Action/Music) ! There's to many CGI in the new ones !

Hope you check out Beetlejuice. Believe me, that movie is nuts in a good way! You've got Danny Elfman doing the musical score, you have actors like Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, and Alec Baldwin in it, and the director of "Batman" and "Batman Returns", Tim Burton. What a combination, am I right? Definitely recommend it! Also, hope you watch the MCU in release order after you watch the Maguire and Garfield Spider-Man films. And most definitely check out "Into..." and "Across the Spider-Verse" when you can.
