One of my Patrons picked TROPIC THUNDER and I watched it without knowing a single thing about it. Wow, what a ride! This movie is an absolute blast, filled with hilarious moments and some truly jaw-dropping scenes. From Robert Downey Jr.'s audacious role to the wild and unexpected twists, Tropic Thunder pushes the boundaries of comedy in ways I didn't see coming. Watch as I laugh (a lot!), cringe, and get totally surprised by the antics of this unique and controversial film.

Hey friends! I did find parts of Tropic Thunder a little shocking at first, but as you can see I actually laughed a lot and LOVED the movie. What a brilliant comedy!
I did have to censor certain words in the film just to keep the video from being demonetized (because UA-cam is very finicky about that stuff). Some people are weirdly angry about this. If that's you, sorry! I hope your day improves!

The only movie I've heard of that "couldn't be made" was Life of Brian, it got banned in a couple of countries because of blasphemy laws.
These days there is almost nothing you can't put in a movie. You just can't expect a studio to put up hundreds of millions of dollars for a Space Movie 1992 remake.

Some of the best comedies push boundaries at that very moment they are made but are committed to doing so not to punch down and withstand the test of time and changing attitudes. As opposed to comedies based on meanspiritedness and ignorance. I'd say both Blazing Saddles and Tropic Thunder fit in the former.

These are actors who TRY to "find" a character and TRY to be true to that character. But they are so oblivious to the real world that they just don't get it. @@marquisdesade3025 I mean, the point is that RDJ isn't in blackface *AS RDJ.* He's playing an Australian actor (Kirk Lazarus) who believes (somehow) that he's the perfect person to portray a black American soldier in the Vietnam War. *That guy is in blackface (and no, I don't think this is a distinction without a difference - the difference here is quite striking).* That's why the film got perhaps the only "pass" in modern cinema for such an inflammatory feature - Lazarus's actions are part of the story...they're essential to understanding the point of the movie (that the culture in Hollywood is so far removed from the values of modern society, and that the people who are essential to keeping the industry profitable, be they A-list actors or sleazy financiers, can get away with basically anything because nobody will ever tell them "no"). You couldn't exactly tell this story without showing a white guy in blackface, or a neurotypical guy playing someone with an intellectual disability ("Simple Jack" being illustrative of the point that Lazarus actually does understand that there are some lines that you don't cross, if not for ethical reasons, then certainly for artistic reasons...he is just too wrapped up in his own BS to see that he's being a hypocrite). The last thing any viewer with half a brain cell will take away from this movie is that blackface is okay.

Great Reaction Cristy like always, this movie is EPIC, love it. The characters in this movie are basically parodies of actual people in Hollywood. The action star, the warshed up comedy star, the extreme method actor, etc. This movie is a satirical take on Hollywood and I love it! The main point a lot of people miss with Robert Downey Jr.'s "Full R****d" speech is how Hollywood tends to treat acting rolls that involve the handicapped and LGBTIQA+. You might've noticed in the pictures at the end that's what every actor other than Ben Stiller was nominated for before Kirk announced the winner. The only people mad about this are this new generation who are mad at literally everything. Theyre constantly mad at comedians and actively boycotting them wherever and whenever they can, then ignoring people who say things and actually mean it. There are very few movies like this, for obvious reasons. Mel Brooks is the only other director I can think of who satirizes Hollywood, although he does it with more affection.
When Tom Cruise was asked to star in this movie, he only had 2 conditions. He wanted to dance and wear a fat suit with big hands, and Ben Stiller said "sure". Also roughly 3/4 of the character Les Grossman was improvised by Tom Cruise! Fun fact. Just like he said in the film, RDJ stayed in character as Lincoln Osirus for the dvd commentary of this movie! Its fucking hilarious! Keep up the good work.
