get a small canvas, some paint and some brushes. Put the play speed on 0.5 or as low as it will go and give it a try. Pure pleasure.
Be prepared to rewind. Regardless, it won't look like his but it'll look great.

My Mum and I watched this every day after school - even still, whenever we see a beautiful sky, or a funky tree, we hope it’s him that created that, is happy and painting somewhere

He gets almost done, the picture is looking almost perfect, and all of the sudden he starts dropping in all these huge trees in the foreground! I don't think I would have the courage to just start slapping paint over a large area when the thing was damn near finished! But he was fearless. He knew what would happen and that it would turn out awesome. What an artist.

He often looks like he's about to totally screw up the otherwise beautiful painting.... then when he's finished it turns out he's making it look better than before. I'm left wondering.... how did he do that?
Well, yes, except that on this one he really neglected the reflection of the mountains. I’m sure he knew about it, and probably did so to make it easier for anyone following him, but the result sure looks strange.
Before the live show, he always made a sample, how it will be look like. So what we see, it is always the second attempt.
Whenever i see a beautiful sunset, I like to think God lets Bob take the reins to make it that much more beautiful. But it's just a silly thought.

I'm having a really stressful evening. I couldn't find anything to watch, then I saw a Bob Ross video and said "oh what the hell, I haven't watched him in a long time."
Imagine my surprise when 1 minute in, a smile snuck onto my face.
I love how bob gives everything on his painting its own personality (e.g. Calling them him, and calling them a happy little tree, talking about where they should live) ...god I wish he was still alive.

I started watching Bob Ross in the late 90's on PBS. Even as a young kid i new their was something special about his paintings and the way he talked. Little did Bob know that his painting videos would be so much appreciated and loved 30-40 years later. Thank you Bob.. R.I.P.

Bob Ross was a regular guy. He was known as a real ball buster in the military. It shows how sensitive and tough he was. The roughest people can be the sweetest bc they care... ive talked to a couple of my heros and realized that hero worship is all based in fiction. People are all made from the same stuff with some happy little variations. Nature just drops them in wherever.

My favorite thing about Bob Ross is not only is he soothing and talented but each time I watch his videos I'm transported to the scene he has created. A world away, a perfect world.
I travel all over with him and it's a beautiful journey.

there's all this light green vegetation coming out of the dark forest to the edge of the water, and seconds later, there is another rock, and the vegetation grows around it! It's like he's a magician!!

I watch it while i'm working, I work from home for an insurance company, I hate my job and it's really irritating. I watch and listen to bob on a second monitor and it mellows me out, makes me feel like I haven't been in hell all day. His voice and art is so soothing

He paints these masterpieces in like 25 minutes . Let that sink in . 25...
he also does the same painting many times per session or episode or whatever. The man is straight Genius, but sometimes he is going so quickly because he just finished doing the same thing on an identical painting or even a few times in a row. You never know which one in the series of paintings is the one that is going to make the episode. That is why there are so many Bob Ross original paintings available. because each show produced multiple final products of the same painting
I'm always waiting for him to get paint all over his shirt from that palette. There's no way I'd be able to hold it like that and not come away with it all over me. :P
Ikr and his arm must I get tired. The palet and the weight of the paint would make my arm give out after 5 minutes.

I've always wondered how artists add detail like that to their paintings, such as how we added the texture of the mountain. I thought they literally sat there painting every little detail with a tiny brush. It's crazy how he can make things appear with a brush and a knife

I thought the same! Bob taught me that this kind of landscape painting is actually subtle trickery...techniques to fool the human eye and brain into it's tendency to discern shapes and patterns that aren't really there! (a form of paredolia actually)

He probably would be a republican - but from what little I know about him, he'd be horrified at the state of politics these days and I really doubt he'd be the type to support 45. I use to record all I could of Bob...I sware after a stressful day at work or whenever Bob's magic painting will relax and bring your blood pressure way down..he's missed but lives on
I find his voice extremely relaxing. I had a terrible day, so when I came home I put on an episode and I calmed down heaps. I'm quite during the entire episode except the occasions "woah!" When he makes mountains or grass appear so realistically!
