Its actually insane that to me that no one is doing videos on the ff7rebirth soundtrack nearly 4 months later. Love your thoughts as always
I know right??? I never really felt like I was qualified to do stuff like this, but no one else is, and I've just gone so far down the rabbit hole with this OST hahaha
Shotaro Shima did an incredible job with this arrangement! BTW. Rebirth was the first game to have this. Nier does have the overworld and battle versions, but Rebirth has 4 versions of each region theme. The first with no world intel, the second with most of the world intel completed in that region. The inbetween version that connects the field and battle version (which you can never hear in full ingame) & then the battle version. In Grasslands, you can clearly hear the inbetween version that transitions the field into the battle version and vice-versa. It's crazy.
Thank you for doing these deep dives into FF7Rebirth tracks. They did such a wonderful job with the soundtrack and it's a crime that's it's not being analyzed by more people!
Happy to contribute what I can!
Would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the Cosmo Canyon battle theme too!
I like that you mention how they used that anxious part of the main theme in the Nibelheim region! Haven't heard anyone else comment it. It was genius, absolutely perfect for that part.
Another GREAT video!! Like others have said in the comments, I'm very surprised that there aren't more people doing this type of analysis... Thank you for doing it in such a good way, you definitely have an audience for that! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing your perspective! The music in that game is so very thoughtful and there's a clearly huge amount of work gone into it. They work hard on finding that balance between nostalgia and standing on its own. It really feels like they tried to build a version of the soundtrack that evokes what it might have been if Final Fantasy VII had released today, using modern conventions, tastes, and technology. It feels they expand on the library of the original soundtrack instead of just referencing it, yet they still masterfully leave moments for those of us familiar with the original's soundtrack.
In really revisiting the original FFVII, I've noticed just how much leitmotif transformation is occurring in it. The main theme is snuck in everywhere! The battle theme is too. It's why I think the main theme isn't Cloud's theme inherently, it's the theme of that world. I've said before that I feel "Anxiety" is more evocative of Cloud.
I'm not done with Rebirth at all (it's huge! And I'm a game developer so paradoxically, no time to play games lol), but I reached Gongaga area and there's the weaponsmith Izo who has a quest for Barret's weapon, and around this quest we hear this incredible version of Barret's theme with the harmonicas it's so fresh, it might not be the only place that version plays but I love it. I'd love to see that one highlighted if it strikes your fancy.
Edit: I just went to listen to it and pay attention in the game, maybe it's a bit too short. It just really struck me as feeling like it really captured Barret's character
I really like that you add in the OG OST for reference! I think your analysis are extremely clear to follow and I personally really like that. Also, I am so glad I finally found someone that gives this OST some of the goddamn appreciation it deserves!!!
Glad to hear that, since I'm rather new at this sort of video - thanks!
My two years old daughter loves your zelda music.
aww thank you so much! I also have a two year old daughter ❤️
I saw that so many tracks weren't even released on the main OST! I hope they come out with an OST Plus. I'm actually trying to learn "Sunset del Sol" on piano right now.
Love the analysis, by the way! Keep them coming! 🎼👍👍
yeah I've been trying to track down some of the ones not on the OST but it's so hard to not know titles or who composed them O_o Really hope we get more soon!
I purposely drew out the length of my first random encounter in the grasslands so I could hear the whole battle theme. I legit cried a little when the violins kick in at 8:44
Very much looking forward to the next one!
Thanks so much!
It really is wild, great analysis
thanks!
I just got tickets to see the ff7 rebirth concert in Carnegie hall in January 2025! This is one of the tracks I’ve been dying to hear in a live orchestra setting! I’m sooo pumped!! 😭
ahhhh that's so exciting!! I'm super hyped to see it in Nashville but man, Carnegie hall!
@@viopatti i know! And I found out recently that Loren Allred will be performing no promises to keep as well in that concert and she’s only doing it in Carnegie hall. So I’m really super excitedd
Love these. This OST is probably my favorite ever. The mix of genres and the production value is so amazing, they really pulled no punches. I'm biased but I'd love to see a FF16 video too! That OST is incredible and overloaded with strings and is packed with so much energy. 'Ascension' (Listen to Beyond the Heavens first for reference!) and 'Away (Overture)' in particular are absolutely mindblowing compositions.
If I did FF16 it would be a blind reaction since I'm not familiar with it at all - I don't know, maybe! I'm still trying to figure out where I want to go with this series :D
@@viopatti There’s so many places to start that I’d just say go with the one that catches your interest! The way they develop themes throughout a game and re-use melodies really does make a blind playthrough the best way to experience the soundtrack with these games. Even motifs from the old games pop up from time to time so there’s really no wrong answer.
I felt the strong influence of Ms. Keiko Osaki. She is a genius of music arrangement. She weaves completely different songs into the songs(she usually weaves classics). She worked on the music arrangements of Final Fantasy 14, 16, and Fire Emblem, and finally influenced other music staff at Square Enix.

Please do it with Ori and Genshin pleaseeeee 💙😭
You know I actually played on the first Ori soundtrack 😄 Genshin is not a game I would ever play myself but I absolutely LOVE what I've heard of the music so I'll definitely consider that!
@@viopatti Omg thank you so much! You made my day better 💙
