21 Year Old Starts a $120,000 Monthly Pressure Washing Business
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- With its low start-up costs and huge profit potential, a pressure washing business can be a great investment for first-time entrepreneurs. Just ask Stephen Rogers-his power washing business, NW Softwash, is bringing in more than $120K each month, and it didn’t even take him to 2 years to get there.
Unlock FREE Access to the Pressure Washing Masterclass: bit.ly/4detpjn
Stephen was only 19 when he started NW Softwash, and had limited financial resources, starting a pressure washing business with just $1,500. We’ll learn how he grew that into the 6-figure monthly revenue the business earns today, and how a new business owner should spend his start-up funds, from the necessary tools and equipment for pressure washing to which advertising methods give the best bang for your buck.
One of Stephen’s goals with NW Softwash was to reach the point he could step back from the day-to-day operations. He started building a team just a few months after opening and was fully “off the truck” by the end of his first year. We’ll get his insights on how to identify and hire reliable employees and what management techniques and business processes he used to shift to a more hands-off owner role.
While a strong team is important for success, no business can grow without customers. We’ll get Stephen’s tips for building a reputation as a new power washing business and how he keeps new customers coming in (and makes sure his current customers keep coming back).

This kid is sharp and a go getter but there is always the rub…..daddy’s company or money etc. In his case his brother was already doing something similar. Id very curious to know mommy and daddy’s role in all of this. Or brother’s.
Stephen's collective mentality he puts on his staff is impressive! Where if one team finishes early they go help others finish. In a trusted environment, that's the way to thrive! Nice to hear it applied in this manner, ty :D
We love that too!
I would like to have heard him talk about his insurance costs. Liability insurance rates have been skyrocketing. Any business that involves roof work and pressure washing seems to be on their radar. Insurers are always looking for business to rape with premiums. In my construction business they always ask if i do pressure washing or own a chainsaw. I think this business is marked for high rates by insurers. At least here in NY insurers are wanting a percentage of your gross. Its like having a partner that makes money even you broke even that year.
Stephen you're an inspiration and a true leader! Value packed interview... Continued success, prayers and blessings :)

Paul. Another great video with significant content; thank you. Here's my Pro Tip: advertise to the immediate neighborhood while serving a customer's home. Steven has a very bright future and is an impressive entrepreneur to say the least at such a young age.
I find it interesting how this is a "less aggressive" form of cleaning as he stands in front of a chemical tub with the word CORROSIVE in all caps stamped on it
@@derek723 it's to clean a house not a soft drink...
@@derek723 It gets heavily diluted with water before leaving the wand. You can damage some surfaces with chemicals but you're even more likely to damage surfaces with a high PSI
Soft wash and Pressure washers typically don’t leave the chemicals on a surface for extremely long periods of time so that it settles and damages surfaces. The chemicals are usually only on a surface 10-30 minutes (nasty, oily, stained concrete is longer) and then they rinse it. They also pre-wet grass and plants and flush them after with clean water to prevent the chemicals from damaging them. You also have some kinds of vinyl siding where the mfg warranty says ‘no bleach for the first 5 years’ and they can use a soap or biodegradeable eco friendly cleaner like they sell at Lowe’s instead of heavier chemicals. Also, you can mix heavier chemicals like bleach to a lower ratio to where it is even less potential to ever harm a surface-like a hot mix of bleach for a nasty commercial concrete might be 8-15% but they can run a low 2-4% bleach mix for aged vinyl or a wood fence. Concrete require heavier bleach ratios.
One of the best stories I've seen for soft washing. I'm one year in and I wish this was out when I started because I made most of those mistakes lol. Nicely done and super value-adding!
By chance do you have another example of a mistake you learned from that Stephen didn't have/mention? I'm super interested following in your guys' footsteps. Did you buy the same start up equipment Stephen mentioned when asked?

120,000 monthly revenue with 30,000 monthly overhead and 20% margins?
Then 11 employees and only 3 trucks?
I’ve been in this business a long time and while these gross numbers are very doable, his numbers aren’t adding up at all!!
Payroll is 60-75k per month before his salary. He does breakeven , at 85k per month. The business seems to be growing based on cashflow(the most important factor to keep the business growing) not based on profit on paper. He might get cash injections from Family. Rcommendation , social media is 10% partner of this business, I recommend buying social media stocks today.
@@stephrogers you can calculate fixed, variable and consumables however you’d like. I thought you included payroll in that number during the interview but if not, then these numbers are even crazier. If you’re not including payroll or consumables and that $30,000 a month is strictly fixed expenses then somethings way off. Only way I could see that being possible is if you’re paying crazy high rates for SEO services and lead generation.

Uplift needs to know the difference: average sales per month, and anualized sales stated. Anualized yearly sales mean that they take the highest month in sales and then is multiplied by 12 even if sales are zero the rest of the year( anualizing is not lying in finance, it is just playing with numbers and potential sales). This business is not doing 1,440,00 per year. Buyer be aware, Careful when buying a business based on Anualized sales or revenue.

A more detailed breakdown of the equipment would be helpful such as, chemicals used different types of hoses and nozzles, and where to get these specialized tools cheap
We'll be sure to include those questions in the next pressure washing business we interview! :)
I think the interview is aimed at anyone starting a business, any field can take inspiration from this video.
Can't give away all the secrets damn LA
I have to say... those are some great questions!
ok, real question: do you enjoy powerwashing/softwashing??? Like, do YOU enjoy picking up the tools, climbing onto the roofs and doing the labor? or can the function be replaced with ANYTHING and you would still be there running the business side?
The issue I have is I enjoy the job, not the business. I am not a business person, I am not an accountant, I am not an HR department, I am not a scheduler, I am not payroll. I enjoy using the tools and running the blaster, the tractor, the trailer, driving the truck.... DOING the work, not managing the work. sure, hiring six teams to go out and do the work makes a nice profit and that really is the goal of any small business, but my desire and excitment does not live in the office pushing spreadhseets and answering phones.
has anyone built up a business and hired a management team just so they could keep doing the labor part and still collect the "owners" paycheck?
I'm pretty sure, you can hire people for everything you said. Hire an accountant etc.
No, you can not generate decent revenue if you're only carrying out laborious tasks as a tech. To see any growth you will need to wear all the hats in the beginning years. Sales, Marketing, Ordering, Inventory, Maintenance, Repair, Operations, Payroll, Accounting the list goes on. As sales grow you can then hire team members and delegate tasks but you can't start hiring until you're making real money and that will only come from the other tasks you did that didn't involve labor
Thanks for doing this. Can you briefly comment on the chemicals you use and safety for employees and the property...staining siding, damaging plants etc... thanks for doing this!!
A lot of great questions, love it when a young one work hard and become successful!
We agree!
