Roughly just a thousand. Put as much money back into the company as possible upfront. My favorite thing about detailing is that there is A LOT of ways to do things correctly. Its a very regimented service but within those guidelines theres a lot of freedom (ie: brands for chemicals, gear, marketing)

@@UpFlip yes, Mobile Detailing was right down my alley with the type of work I do. I do admit theirs more that goes into it f49m custodial. As far as carpet and upholstery goes, that's where my strength is as well as being thorough in what I do. So far, detailing has been rewarding, at the same time challenging because of my age (46). This is no doubt a young man's game.

When he could have been goofing off like most people at this age he was grinding, sleep out of the question. This position is not handed out but earned. If it were handed out it couldn’t be maintained. If you want to try to get here, ultimately you can only do it with what’s inside of you, things like your work ethic, attitude, and motivation. RE: Marketing. Get a big metal A-frame sign at the front of the street while you're working. At least a couple people will stop, ask a couple questions and grab a business card. Some book straight away. The best is when you're almost done the detail and you can show them the work you did. When I talk to people in person I get a lot of new business. Whereas if I go door to door with flyers it tends to be a complete waste of time. If you have a nice A-frame sign tho, you'll easily get 30% more business :)

The thing i hated about doing mobile detailing was the money I left on the table. I’m in DFW so there’s a lot of traffic. The time it takes to setup/breakdown, traffic and time it takes to go to every location I left around 450 a day on the table vs doing it out of my garage. I can tell clients to drop off their vehicles the night before or early morning and then start on them around 6am. No extra money on a shop since I’m doing it from home. No money on gas, vehicles or extra insurance. I will be getting a shop down the line as we grow.

It is much easier to start a business today, but it is nowhere as easy as he makes it sound.
And there is no way you can you can start a business for $500 like he said without tons of help from family and friends and be where he is today.
You also need to be in a city/area where tons of people are willing to get their cars detailed regularity, and also spend the $60+ he charges for it.
Happy he got where he is, and but it takes a Lot of hard work and lots of hours. Also you need some amount of luck to get a business get this big, let alone this big this fast. There is a reason why most businesses fail, especially in the first few years.

Assuming you live at home (which most people do in their early 20s and late teens), a hard working individual could easily save up the money to do it. He even said it himself, it only costs about $500 to get going.
It's just about being smart with how you spend your money from other (probably part time jobs). Most young people who work part time spend all of their money whereas a financially smarter person would probably save most of it.

Thanks for sharing the video. As a fellow detailer and detailer who watches videos about detailing daily I was entertained ,but figured id give my 2 cents about a few factors going on here with this supposed 600k a year business...
Factor1: You don't even offer your own power and water from a tank ?
factor2: Doesn't it become a hassle continuously pull out and pack up your whole setup out of these soccer mom mini vans (not to mention it is messy to have all these things scattered in someone's driveway. Not that it matter just an opinion)
factor3: i understand everyone budgets and allocates capital differently but your turning 600k a year and you don't have the room in the budget to outfit proper vans? atleast for your guys sake?? maybe wrap them all the same? outfit them with generator, hose reels, compressors ?
you might as well invest in a new set of vans instead of paying the irs 60-100k in taxes every year maybe chop that number in half by re investing in proper equipment
just some thoughts from coming from a small 1-2 man detailing op nowhere near your scale.

    • @Ichabod_Jericho
      @Ichabod_Jericho 2 роки тому +5

Same thinking here. I’m mobile in So Cal with a 2014 Promaster 1500 Low Roof, carry everything all the time and everything is on locking & self retracting hose reels.
It probably saves me an hour per detail. I make more having the van in time saved than it ever cost me to purchase. What I’m wondering is how does he have such an intense amount of calls coming in? He doesn’t even have any commercial equipment and it’s hard to believe he genuinely keeps up at least 40K a month.
But what do I know? I could just be hating. I’m just kind of unconvinced. He’s got a nice wash bay! Hope he proves me wrong in 5 years.

Hey there. Wanted to help answer some questions! We never thought we would get this big so fast. We started with the mini vans and it has been working great for us! People love us and how we operate. We are going to stick with what’s working for us and there’s no way we are changing our formula unless we think of something better. Crazy to see what was able to come of this since I hired my first employee just 6 months time ago. We love what we do and strive for perfection however spending $60k on a rig isn’t something anyone needs to do starting out. Wish you and your partner all the best and hope some of my tips were helpful!

Wondered the same, but if I were him, I’d have my guys sign a non-compete and non-disclosure agreement. Since the type of business and client list and pricing is pretty much common knowledge with the employees, it’s all easily used to undercut and steal customers.
