    My 2011 6.7 is at 282,000 miles, 14,000 engine hours, deleted at 247,000. It too has been mostly a real world truck, farmed most of its life, towed, idled a lot and I don’t cut it any slack, now it’s on 40 inch tires and gets drove daily, it’s had ball joints, wheel bearings, brakes, a coolant hose, ac compressor, cold side charge pipe and a turbo that’s it. Take it from me, the ccv needs to be taken care of, it’s caused me major oil leaks as well. And also 9 out of 10 problems with these 6r140 transmissions are valve body related, yours is probably fine and just needs a valve body

    Jacob check the wire harness going across the front of the oil pan under the truck. You will see alittle green corrosion weeping out of the plastic holder of the harness. The wires Chaff and this is the number one cause of your battery light. Super easy fix.

    The def emissions systems are killing diesel engines reliability. I know a guy with a deleted 6.7 and I know a guy with one that still has all the emissions crap the deleted truck has 350,000 Mi no problems at all normal maintenance. The one that still has def and dpf has had a lot of problems 95% involving the emissions equipment all in 200k miles. The EPA and the government has killed the diesel engines reliability!!

    Great video. With that said...I wouldn't have a diesel pickup! Had too much great service from gas trucks and they operate MUCH cheaper than diesel trucks. 175000 on my 2017 f250 6.7 HCP, (exact same as yours but maroon)
    literally no issues other than a leaking vacuum seal.
    These are good trucks.
    13000mi oil changes as well t6 5-40 wix filters. Oil sample comes back great every time. I want to run it farther but just cant get around the mental sude haha
    If i drove all hwy i would change it every 20k
    Fuel filters every 30k still look clean
    Use mine to go to snowmobiling in Idaho from eastern ND. This SOB will yank my enclosed 90mph down i90 with no issue. Never shifts out of 6th.
    Agree on the fuel additive and over maintenance statements.
    Mine gets treated the exact same way.
    Got stuck in the mud and had it to the boards in 4H until it derated itself.
    No issues.
    Front end is still tight on mine.
    More chances for dirt and contamination to enter the motor.

I’ve done ball joints and u joints and all the other wear items. It’s deleted with a 0hp tune. Level on 35’s it entire life. Original trans. No rattles no squeak no anything. It has been a surprisingly great truck.

    The harder you work a a motor the better for it so a certain point. And its about the little details. Like taking it on the highway and doing 80mph for 15 minutes before dumping the oil not forcing more gas after the pump clicks off. Wiping the gas nozzle off before you stick it in your filler neck the little details.

    • @christianpetterson1784
      @christianpetterson1784 28 днів тому +2

      @JacobOverman Honestly, it's mostly the upkeep and overcomplexity that drives me away. This was a decent result for a modern diesel, but maintenance at this stage in the truck's life gets even more expensive than usual. Almost any job requires lifting the cab. EGRs and DEF in modern diesels knock their longevity down to about the same lifespan as a well maintained gasser.
      The 7.3 is extremely simple for a modern gas engine, and almost anyone can work on it. There's tons of room under the hood to work, and the biggest trade-off to me is less overall power/torque and a less than ideal torque band. The 10 speed and 4.30 axle gears largely fix this however.

    transmission seems like a valve body issue that is very common on those 6r140's. Usaully its the 2-3 or 5-6 shift. also could be a solenoid that is getting worn out or has something stuck in the solenoid. I would look into haveing the valve body replaced and make sure they put in new soleniods.

      Tell me about it, last Friday was working on a 6.7 changing a turbo, and its just annoying seeing broken and missing plastic clips and the Christmas tree clips gone broken on the intake. Its not that hard to make sure you do quality work so we both don't waste our time. You having to come back because a loose coolant hose or wire gets cause in the fan clutch or its resting on a hot intake and melts. Then for me as the tech having to work for free on a comeback because of my negligence. Just do the job right the first time and no issues will ever occur.

    Ima going to get me a 6.7 around November considering l5p to I don’t need a diesel but it’s a want and I make enough to afford it plus they hold their value good leaning more to the 6.7 but open to the l5p I don’t want to have to dump money into something all the time cp4 is my only concern with the 6.7

    • @JacobOverman
      @JacobOverman  27 днів тому +1

      Well either way no matter how you look at it a diesel is going to be expensive to own. I’ll say from my experience the gm trucks don’t hold up like the fords. The duramax itself is great and I think the cp4 isn’t that big of an issue. I think your better off with a ford overall

      100,000 is barely broken in. I have an 11 RAM 3500 and a 13 RAM 3500. Both with the 6.7 Cummins. The 11 is at 425,000 miles and the 13 is getting close to 390,000. Both see heavy use year round on my ranch in central Montana. Doesn’t matter if it’s -40 or 110 above they’re being used daily. I bought both used at around 85,000. Nothing but oil changes, filters and a delete on each one

    • @JacobOverman
      @JacobOverman  9 днів тому

      It’s all luck of the draw. There is of coarse wear items but sometimes new doesn’t mean it’s better and won’t break down. I don’t know if your in the ford groups on Facebook but most new fords 24+ are losing their AC system and ford can’t get the parts. So that would suck.

Domestic dealers need you to come back, so they will never build them for life. I think the maintenance can depend on the truck. Like a 6.0 or 6.4 for example seem to like the oil being changed often otherwise they decide to fall apart for no reason.
    Now on less temperamental engines I definitely agree the over maintaining an engine is retarded. Just my thoughts on that.

      #1 reason is I’m working 7 days a week right now trying to catch up and 2 I didn’t have the equipment to charge/discharge the AC system. I figured they could then handle all the other small issues. Besides that. Ford also has 2 year warranty on parts and labor so kinda hard to beat if they do it right. I do most the basics myself.
