Two steps to stop window fogging, 1) spray and wipe inside of all windows with anti fog spray from auto parts store and spray and wipe exterior windshield, front side windows, and rear window with anti fog rain x ( at least 2 coats ) then 2) get a powerful 12 volt cigarette plug tornadoe fan from a truck stop and set it to blow on inside of windshield and you should have anymore fogging issues. Those vacuum wipers gave me flashbacks of my first car, a 1968 AMC Javelin. I bought it in 1985 for $300 from my brother. The faster you drove, the slower the wipers went. That's not good when you're from Seattle. It had an auxiliary vacuum pump on top of the fuel pump, but the diaphragm was apparently blown.

Not gona lie, Ive thought many times about doing the "Make it run then road trip it" thing and well it scares me. Hats off to you for being able to pull these off!
I did that 2 years ago with a $1,000 Buick Rendezvous, tossed a head and head gaskets at the 3.4, changed the fluids and took off on a 3,000 mile road trip to Colorado, discovered it runs hot climbing passes, the 4 year old tires tossed all the cords, and it wasn’t a fun trip in an 80,000 mile car. My 77 Chevelle on the otherhand is a veteran long distance road tripper. (Cept now, it dropped a valve and destroyed the engine on the way to a baseball game.
Captain John’s is a hidden gem in McAlester. Which is a good thing because it’s just about the only option aside from Chili’s. I find myself down that way twice a year for work.
My friends 1965 Chevy ll went through a new set of front tires in 258 miles in July of 1978 when we decided to go for a drive. Found out that it was the tie rods, and he had zero resources, so off to A-1 Auto Wreckers, she went. We still talk about that day in 2024.
I had a similar trip from St Louis to Houston in a 1979 Corolla Wagon 2TC that was running hot. Stopped at Springfield and went to the movies to wait til sundown. Saw Oscar with Stallone. Had pulled the thermostat cover at an O Reillys and found there was not one. So after dark in the cool air we drove all through the night at 55 with the heat on full blast. had to put a blanket over my feet to keep from burning them. She ran right at the red the whole way, Made it home around 9am. Never had a leak but the next day went to pull the Rad and it came apart in my hands. Heater core as a supplemental Rad works well. When I was a kid, we had an old 1959 Chevy Apache 32 pickup truck with vacuum wipers. When you coasted, they'd go so fast I was sure the blades would just fly off. When the engine was under load, they'd stop. You had to let off the throttle for a second to let the wipers sweep, then get back on the gas before you lost too much speed (the truck had a 235 L6 with a three on the tree, so losing momentum was borderline tragic).

In case anyone is wondering about that thing he installed on the windshield it's called "Speedway 91061009 Windshield Stop Light Prism / Traffic Light Viewer"
Here's a little tip for getting the meats off the back of a Ford of that era. Jack up the wheel on the opposite side it will push the side you are work on just enough to get the tire to slide between the hub and fender.
The funny thing is is that Dalton knew the kind of road trip he was going on and still put off crucial repairs for convenience and laziness. The whole time, I was laughing and laughing because a lot of the issues could've been avoided. As a 30+ years mechanic, I was shocked at the ill preparation in making sure that it could make the trip successfully. You are one brave person on taking these chances of ill prepping a road trip. The videos are very entertaining though! I love 💕 Pole Barn, never a dull moment. Anyways, thanks for the video 📸.
Hey, great content. Keep up the good work. I'll tell ya an old racing secret. Before you install your next water pump, cut half the impellers off. To keep it balanced cut off every other blade, then skip one, cut the next, skip one. You get the idea. You should have 4 blades instead of 8. This slows down the rate at which the water passes through the rad. Water spends more time in the rad thus running cooler. 😉
Good evening from Cape Cod ⛵ the White knuckle ride is part of the journey guys 😂 it's a shame the front end is falling out of it but you found somebody that will put more love into it. Great video guys 👍✌️🇺🇲

The transformation of the old wagon is incredible Dalton. Not only is it running and driving, it's road trippin'... 16 belts... That's freakin awesome LMFAO. It cracked me up when you said you paid $70 for the cig lighter. As a fellow smoker, I would have done it too. Now you just need to get a new receptacle for it, so it stays in on its own, and pops out when it's ready to use. It's damn near magic. Hell, most of the new vehicles don't even come with a lighter. I remember when I bought my new 2014 RAM 4x4 crew cab. It was a fully loaded rig with the Cummins, and it wasn't cheap. When we picked it up, I noticed on the window sticker that it had the "Smokers Package" which they charged $75 for. When I got in I looked and couldn't find a lighter, and certainly didn't see an ashtray. As a last resort I looked in the center console, and there it was, the smokers package... One cheesy ass little black plastic ashtray with the lighter inside of it.
Damn shame, love the old wagon. Too bad you didn’t have enough time to run it for awhile before adventuring off into the world of the unknown. We all love the adventures. Keep up the great work.
I was so glad to see you gut the thermostat and not just remove it most people don't understand you need some back pressure so coolant can slow down enough to pull heat out of block but to also get in the heads far enough to keep from having hot spots where the coolant will never reach without some back pressure, as long as you do the wrong thing the right way it's all good. It is what it is, ain't what it should be, never will be what it was! great job
I get the frustrations and the panic, but this is what i call an adventure. Driving a car that doesn't have a very long life and you know the risks, but there's thats adrenaline excitement.
When you check the engine oil you should pull the dipstick out wipe it off clean put it back in and pull it back out that gives you the true measure of how much oil you have.
Sorry ya'lls vacation didn't as as planned, but thanx for taking us along on your adventure...!! I liked seeing all the little towns along the way to Dr lee's place ....cant wait to see what kinda ride you wind up with for the remainder of the trip....be safe.

"I really hope we live, that would be great!" - loved this epic 4 parter! Thanks for the hard work! The car meddling was fun, but your personality and dry presenting style is entertaining to watch too! Its hard to get a good balance of likeability and engineering / 'car stuff', but you've got it! Not gonna lie though - was heartbreaking seeing the Mercury being cut up haha
Something extra special about lighting a smoke with an old school car cigarette lighter (I have done this before). Also, the special...um marks.. they would leave if you played with one as a dumb kid.
Didn't realize you were going to Stephenville, not the most direct route to the coast but guess is you heading toward San Antonio area that makes sense.
The heart of the problem is the RPM.....3,300 RPM is still way to high to keep that engine temp in the safe zone. The gearing needs to bring it closer to 2,000 RPM on the highway and the overheating issue would disappear.

Sad to see it go, but you did what you had to do I suppose. 👍
Glad the wagon is getting some love. 😎
In case anyone is wondering about that thing he installed on the windshield it's called "Speedway 91061009 Windshield Stop Light Prism / Traffic Light Viewer"
Dalton is exactly like most of us no 200k shop don’t talk about merch all the time. Down to earth guy. That’s why he is my favorite UA-camr.
Yep! Very refreshing.
Water spends more time in
the rad thus running cooler. 😉
Good evening from Cape Cod ⛵ the White knuckle ride is part of the journey guys 😂 it's a shame the front end is falling out of it but you found somebody that will put more love into it. Great video guys 👍✌️🇺🇲
Thank you for being so attentive to our comments good or bad, You could already be a couple of steps ahead of us, but if it will make yours and us as the fans more knowledge-able then great, Thank you for all the great content Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.
It was a fully loaded rig with the Cummins,
and it wasn't cheap. When we picked it up, I noticed on the window sticker that it had the "Smokers Package"
which they charged $75 for. When I got in I looked and couldn't find a lighter, and certainly didn't see an ashtray.
As a last resort I looked in the center console, and there it was, the smokers package...
One cheesy ass little black plastic ashtray with the lighter inside of it.
Really enjoyed the video Dalton. Regardless of all the problems, there's still no better way to take a trip than in an old car.
Looks like an “exciting “ trip Dalton and Jess! It’s cool that you’ve stayed in touch with Matt’s dad Lee as well.
Ignore the haters. What you do is really cool.
What the best thing about visiting Texas was, everyone that we meet said where are you from, and welcome to Texas!
Great vid... Love the '60
I'm happy to support such a good creator 🎉🎉 ❤❤ can't wait for the next video
When you check the engine oil you should pull the dipstick out wipe it off clean put it back in and pull it back out that gives you the true measure of how much oil you have.
50 zip ties on each tie rod end may work?
I gotts to say . When Jess has a lot of commentary it is so cute and wholesome! love you al;!
Sorry ya'lls vacation didn't as as planned, but thanx for taking us along on your adventure...!! I liked seeing all the little towns along the way to Dr lee's place ....cant wait to see what kinda ride you wind up with for the remainder of the trip....be safe.
Part 2 should be very interesting.
Might be hell now, but the memories will be worth it later.
ctc auto ranch? isn't that the same place where they did a very early episode of roadkill where they got a cuda?
Another fun adventure ! Soon Power Tour 2024
Hey Dalton. Got my Boogie van t-shirt in the mail the other day and wore it driving my Boogie van to a car show yesterday. The shirt looks great and shipping was fast. Couldn't be happier. Looking forward to watching more of your adventures.
So happy. I'm a part of don't lose the shop. Forgive me, Dalton for being late.I'm glad this came out
Put a vacuum canister for the weaper motor
26:03 ooooooooooohhh GOTH HOUSE it's ALIVE!!!
Many years ago,I had issues with vacuum wipers.I took it apart and used bearing grease toline the walls of the vacuum motor interior. It worked great!Just a suggestion.Love ur show, sir.
Your videos are a breath of fresh air, always enjoy watching
If you are reading this Dalton thank you for your continued entertainment and inspiration and knowledge, you help a person like me with OCD and anxiety find a way to enjoy cars in a more care free kind of way, I own a 1994 Mitsubishi 3000gt that's perfect and rustless and it always throws problems at me but ive learnt to just not care anymore thanks to you
"It's Texas for Some Reason" is your next t-shirt slogan. You're going to be rich.
Also a great album name.
Pretty good racehorse name too.
I’m from the Weatherford area and, and can confidently say that Doug and the other guys at Turpin tires are the best we got and am glad you got great service from them.
"I can't even fly a paper airplane" 🤣🤣🤣
"I really hope we live, that would be great!" - loved this epic 4 parter! Thanks for the hard work! The car meddling was fun, but your personality and dry presenting style is entertaining to watch too! Its hard to get a good balance of likeability and engineering / 'car stuff', but you've got it!
Not gonna lie though - was heartbreaking seeing the Mercury being cut up haha
Something extra special about lighting a smoke with an old school car cigarette lighter (I have done this before).
Also, the special...um marks.. they would leave if you played with one as a dumb kid.
Didn't realize you were going to Stephenville, not the most direct route to the coast but guess is you heading toward San Antonio area that makes sense.
just curious when you were through that way?
Watching this after my graduation, a better gift than money! 😂
Nice!
I once sent my rare engine isolators to Steele Rubber for refurbishing. It was great.
22:49 auxiliary cooling is still a genius idea, and will absolutely be used in the future when big engines are paired with small engine radiators
Yep! Proven!
The heart of the problem is the RPM.....3,300 RPM is still way to high to keep that engine temp in the safe zone. The gearing needs to bring it closer to 2,000 RPM on the highway and the overheating issue would disappear.
@@Martin.Wilson it would be just fine if he had more capacity
Dalton we love your interaction with us fans. Keep on keeping on brother! Did you try any water wetter in the 460?
I've wondered about that stuff for a long time...
Next time drill holes in the thermostat around the spring area, it works!!
Dalton, JD, and Jess, some of the coolest people on the whole of UA-cam.
Thanks for sharing the fun, the misery, and the excitement of the road trip!
