I think a big thing you missed about PAL is that the weakest characters in the game were *barely* improved, while many of the top tiers were nerfed. I think this is the major reason that PAL isn't well liked. A fundamental fact about balancing games is that people hate nerfs, but love buffs. If PAL actually buffed the worst characters to a significant degree, then it would have been way more popular.
I agree But it doesn't mean nerfs don't need to be made sometimes I think you can imagine something like this as if some Smash 4 players refused to play the last version of the game because, idk, they played Bayonetta and she got nerfed Kinda stupid. I do believe the scene would be more diverse if ppl played PAL
A big what if would be what if they never released NTSC. Straight to PAL and people would probably find the same entertainment value because they had nothing to compare it to. It's unfortunately probably a worse side of human nature. If the Melee community was true to the game like the rest of the smash community is true to every digital buff in Ultimate, we'd see more diverse majors and I think it would be great for the game. But everyone who has a say in what happens except for Amsa has chosen a top tier and is gatekeeping.
@@americantimemachine7128as asumsaus already said, the buffs and nerfs of pal really didn’t change much of anything in the grand scheme of the meta. Just look at the European scene from before they switched to NTSC. Pretty much the same set of characters were all popular.
@MercyMainBTW if you consider the timespan in which the game has thrived until now, of around twenty years, and how lengthy was the process for we to arrive at the current scene, I do think the size of the rest of the Smash scene outside of the USA and the time they had has impacted it really hard on it's development. There's a nice video of Akshon Esports released a few days ago that simply commented superficially on the ruleset of the competitive game, and from its release to just the current stages list took around 6 or more years idk, to decide the stages list. The last solo Sheik to win a major was at 2004 and just now we had Amsa being the first solo Yoshi to win. 20 years. I do think the game should be played in PAL. Even if just a little, the other players and characters may have a better chance to succeed in an environment with a bit less dominant top tiers.
@@jonathanc3001 That's an extremely short-sighted view: popularity and viability are two completely separate categories. We have had Luigi and Samus, for example, place top 8 at majors. With how tight the top competition is, who is to say those characters would not have won in those situations with significant nerfs to the top tiers? Tier lists and popularity do not matter if real viability is much closer than it was before. PAL version should be tried when the meta seems stale. Right now it's a little better because of people like Axe and Amsa, but the rest of the top 100 might at least attract some sort of difference with a mixup. Beyond that, we're still seeing meta changes and those meta changes might be more pronounced with better game balance. The argument from a tier list perspective and tournament perspective from a smaller pool of a few years in Europe is just simply a bad argument.
