“35 DOLLARS! That’s insane”.
Linus you are selling a water bottle, for 30 freakin dollars.
You can’t complain.
$30 water bottle isn’t that bad, the $50 for 3 underwear and $90 jacket is bad

90$ FOR A HOODIE, GET IT NOW
No water bottles are not the expensive one it’s the underwear and the jacket
35$ for a game is pretty normal even lower then many new releases which is 50$ - 60$

There’s a guy at my school who goes to the library to play his quest everyday, I respect that guy
Edit: we became friends
Does he play Beat Saber though?
Eclogites by the looks of his arm movements and The sound yes
Alex Burton from where?
Alex Burton it’s cool man, happens
Kwinten me too, looks like he’s playing beatsaber
They actually fixed almost all those problems, AND released hand tracking early
Yeah, I agree.
The only problem I've had with mine is if I move my head to fast whilst making the guardian then it gets a bit weird and jittery.
Cool I might get it next year
Just wondering, but is minecraft vr on the quest
@@Broment502 It's only for other headsets. But the Oculus Link might allow the quest to run it I don't know for sure.

Are we forgetting that the index is like a grand and this you don’t even need a pc
I have a high end PC that is $1300, but I still desire to get this with the new link capabilities.
(unless you want to play vr games that weren't included)
I mean if you can afford it and you are already a gamer you should definitely go for the index. The quests library is very limited and to play the good games you need the oculus link anyways which turns it into a wired headset.
You can use virtual desktop to play steam wireless in the quest no link needed
Poogby it just came out and they are working on it

linus: it's quite choppy and it lags a lot.
riley: it's probably cause we're recording and it's running on a phone processor...
As a Quest owner and owner of the games that they were playing, I can tell you that things have improved a LOT since the version that these guys were using. I never have any stutters or lag, while playing. I love the system and I have a link cable with a nice VR computer, so that allows me to play PCVR with the Quest as a headset, which is also a great experience. I've had no regrets.
What cable are you using for Oculus Link?
I'm using the Official Oculus Link cable. It's great, if you have the money for it.
@@jamescatchot10 Does the Oculus Link cable come with the Quest? Or do you have to buy it separately?
@@sutibn There is a USB-C cable that comes with it to charge it and to allow you to move files over from a pc or whatever you want to do. Back when the Link software first came out this cable wasn't fast enough to support using it for PCVR, so everyone had to buy fiber optic type cables, like the official link cable.
They have been patching the Link software though and now they claim the cable that comes with the Quest will be good enough. I do see one downside though and that is that it's a much shorter cable. There are some non official cables that you can buy though that aren't as expensive as the official link cable that Oculus puts out, but are at least very long. So there are options for you.
The oculus link cable is great but if you have a 5ghz compatible wireless access point/router try using virtual desktop. It's literally the same thing as oculus link but wireless. Your welcome lol
It’s lagging because you’re recording
The lightsaber lags because the controllers have a different tracking rate then the screen (lower, but you can change it in the settings).
Vader immortal didn’t really work since you walked out of the play space.
Oculus link and sidequest exist to expand the library.
Red Matter’s graphics exist

Btw, 35$ for a game is nothing.
Usually there are games that cost like... $100
Pi’Stas’io exactly. They are so biased with this review. The average console game is like $45
Yeah games are now like 60 dollars
Tbh nah it's annoying you cant buy stuff used I get most PS4 games used later when it's like 20$ or less. But I do understand 30$ for a lot of people isn't absurd though. It also depends cause a lot of VR games are very short compared to full retail console or pc games etc so "worth it" is debatable per person.
I spent that on my computer
"Unless you live in a giant warehouse..."

When Oculus Link comes out there needs to be a part 2 to this video.
It's still going to offer the least of the headset, especially when compared to PCVR proper headsets
@@meowmix705A lot of people will still be willing to choose it over any other for the price. It'll always improve during and after the beta for sure.
@@OzzySafa I don't understand why choosing this instead of cv1 or S
Tracking on the cv1 will be always better even over the S
Of course there are many cables.
Quest vs S
More hz on the S and you will also have 1 cable on the quest with the link
@@OzzySafa That's fine. But even Oculus stated the Quest (w/ Link) will never deliver as good as an experience as the Rift S. Ppl that tried Link and are hyping it up seem to be ignoring Oculus' own stance on the issue.
So if you mainly want PCVR - you;re gonna want a PCVR headset.
If you're willing to give up some graphical fidelity, then the QUest tradeoffs might be good enough others.
Lorenzo Clara You’re right however it’s only a 8hz difference many of the new comers to VR won’t really notice this. The Blacks on the OLED will look nicer to say the least. For the people that want the best of both to dip their feet in without paying unreasonable price for the others, this is a great option.

Those "out of play area" messages weren't coming from or related to the Quest's tracking system. It was coming from Vader Immortal itself because you were stepping outside of their 'safe zone' in the game. Bad way to handle that. It's annoying as hell, yes, but is not a reflection of the tracking.
yep, it was really stupid. it was like watching an old person who can't figure out why the remote isn't working
@@xordus ?? I didn't mean Linus handled it bad. I mean that error message is a dumb way for the game to handle keeping you within the play area. I fought with that damn thing the first time I encountered it as well, trying to figure out where the fuck it wanted me to move to.

Linus: "BuT tHe GrApHiCs..."
LMAO he do be like that tho
Mazxj Stripes But the graphics looks good especially what it’s running on.
In fairness, VR runs fine on a ~$600 PC. Not disagreeing, but 3k is a stretch lol.
Paradox Shift
Well still if you buy a $600 pc and a Rift S then altogether it would be around 1000 dollars and I think that a $600 pc would be a little jittery.
@@mrdaddu3852 It wouldn't though. As I said, VR runs fine on said hardware...
I'd like to see Linus revisit this when Oculus Link is out and see how that 'increases' the value of the Quest, being able to use this as a standalone wireless VR headset and also connected to your PC with one cable so you can play your Rift and SteamVR games.
This is the only reason why he accepted the idea from his team to create this video. More content for the future. Not a bad move - but a true shame that the device doesn't get the review it deserves - for the right reason. Quest will blow every VR headset he has currently purchased when it comes to future developments, price point, and freedom.
I think the best thing they could have done to make this device better, would be to make the panel compatible for at least 90hz or higher, but only run it at 72hz when it's in standalone mode. That feature alone would take this whole setup to the next level because it would make it really versatile, as a on-the-go VR set as well as a high perfect headset.
@@Obliveater95YT John Carmack actually answered that. They are technically capable of doing 90Hz right now, but it would break their FCC certification. So for the next generation they will make sure to certify at any possible refresh rate, but it's too late for the first gen quest :(
You need a cable. It needs to be wireless.
@unrepeatable raddish No, lower refresh rate causes more motion sickness. I own an Index and I can play that significantly longer because of the much higher refresh rate.
Watching him play Vader immortal, he was so whinny, and difficult. I have less trouble navigating my mentally challenge niece through the same game.

Hey! Looking for some real person review, what are your final thoughts on owning one? Worth the $400? I really want to get one but I don’t want to get something that I don’t use very often
AkTon I bought the Oculus after being introduced to it by a friend, I definitely think it’s worth I just don’t use it as much because I’ve gotten a bunch of other gaming devices recently but I definitely think its worth it. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s a little heavy in the front but other than that it’s fine, I got used to it being a little heavy in the front and now don’t feel it. Most of the games you can buy for it are under $30 and the selection of games is great, you can also get games that aren’t out yet or custom songs for beat saber using your laptop or computer on side quest. (it’s a thing you can download I don’t use it much though) so yeah, I definitely think it’s worth it. I really just use the quest for beatsaber and job simulator but there are a ton of other games too.
Just - Risa hey thanks for the info! Depending on how board I get during this Quarantine shit I might just say fuck it and go for it
@@akton6157 The Quest is in back order and out of stock, you might as well get it while it goes back in stock instead of buying it later because it will take about a month or less to get it after purchasing

the warnings in Vader immortal were there because you were putting you head through geometry.
also yes there is more of a stutter in games when you are recording video at the same time.
This happened to me in episode 2 when I was stuck under the map (while climbing) it was really confusing with no way to fix it other than quit and start the chapter again. Fine for me but new players really can't handle that frustration.
It seems like it was handled really poorly. They should give you a wireframe of the scene so you can navigate back into the correct space instead of arrows which might be confusing. Alternatively there should be a button that returns you to the last correct position.

Literally yes
You, sir, understand me.
Hey linus, computer vision engineer here, its not the space that matters tracking to work, but rather the texture. Its going to perform badly in a situation where there are no objects and everything is same color. It tries to "detect definitive locations" on the room and handling tracking through those points. We call this keypoint detection, it is a very robust, very powerful and efficienct technique.
It is also important to have keypoints that are visible anywhere on the room for this to work accurately, for example, if your wall has a painting or a definitive, unique texture, that is insanely helpful for the quality of the tracking.
And this will only improve over time, there are alot of advanced methods we have that can provide milimeter accurate tracking (so precise that we can literally measure your heart beat speed from little movements of your body) using only cameras but those require a bit too much computation right now.
can you make a video detailing what helps the tracking in more layman terms? Like, if I take a few cardboard boxes, color them pure black and throw them around the room, would that help? Why?
What about lights? I have dimmed lights in my room. Does lack of bright light affect tracking? What if I turn off all lights in room and make it all dark?
This would be super helpful for all who have this type of tracking devices.
@@Muhanoid Uniqueness is the key here, having multiple black cardboxes can actually hurt the performance since the tracker may confuse black cardboxes with each other (actuallly, if something is not unique, tracker is more likely to ignore it completely to avoid confusion).
I would say having pictures , doesnt matter what, on your walls are very important in this case, they are visible almost always, they are very unique (assuming you dont have same picture in multiple locations), they make the perfect features.
Light levels should be enough for camera's to be able to produce clear image, it very much depends on the camera's used in headset rather than actual algorithm. But i heard quest's cameras perform good on dim light.
So I should put up carpets/paintings with very distinct patterns up to help it track better?
@@astronemir Exactly, also repeated patterns are basically useless.
A simple way to know what would make a good keypoint is basically assuming that you randomly zoom into 30x30 pixel region from an image, can you recognize where it was on the original image? Corner of a image for example would be very recognizable, but a repeated texture on carpet would not be very easily recognizable (since there are too many "potential" locations for a repeated texture).
@@Muhanoid Hard contrast changes help a lot for any type of tracking.
Bland surfaces with little to no change are a pain, any random object that stands out will greatly help, say a dark object in a white background.
Though I'm only assuming as I've only dealt with motion tracking in 3D software, but the basic idea should be the same for the Oculus here.

@@hoen2009 The problem is that Quest draws the same kind of fanboyism that consoles do. There is a cognitive bias that happens when you get these people who are either too poor or too lazy to build/buy a gaming PC capable of the superior experience that PCVR brings on higher fidelity HMDs. They get irrationally defensive when people attack their Quest because deep down they are insecure about the fact that they are possibly missing out on a greater experience if they spent more on a powerful PC. @@thedonzo You gotta consider how long ago this video was, the Quest was still really good, but his experience definitely isn't to be dismissed because today's Quest became really good, as for the past couple of months even, it's improved a lot.
Also in terms of the video, it's going to be useless to look at the footage even if you're watching it at 60fps, because I imagine he'd feel it was a bit more stuttery than what's at least he's used to which is the Index. That's more of a testament to his VR experiences and not how stuttery the Quest WILL feel for most people who buy it.
@@jinsory5582 I do when he made this video is when the oculus link beta dropped and all those things im saying came out lol. That being said it was all fresh but as a tech guy I would have assumed he would be on top of that stuff. Its my job to keep up with the latest technology and its linus's job as well so yeah...no hate just a huge oversight on his part.
1:28 The sheer look of horror in his face.. Lmao.
"YOU WROTE THAT INTO THE SCRIPT!"
xD
Does anybody else think Linus is biased? I do.
Maz ‘n’ Haz hes beennpaid for the "good" review
He seems like he expects to have a bad experience
Wouldn’t you be too if you built computers just to build them with the best possible components
Dedinitely sponsored
@@novablum3399 that'd be illegal to not properly disclose to viewers that this video is sponsored
12:46 whoever said that comment-let me just tell you:
Star Wars doesn’t suck. Give me 5 reasons why. Yes the sequels definitely did but the first six movies + TCW, Rebels, and the Mandalorian where great. Vader Immortal might such but not Star Wars
My favourite part of this is the amount of corrections they had to make in post, proving this headset is evolving consistently
Song at 9:40 is Home - Can't Stop Loving You (feat. Lifford Shillingford)
Thank you!
now im just expecting a 10 hour loop of that dance to this song
@@burnzy3210 just use Danny Byrd's "Put Your Hands Up". Has the same vibe and I know it's a good alternative because I go crazy with my driving on Horizon 3 everytime that song comes on.
@@OfficialDJSoru I agree, I love that song too. Was very surprised to hear a song like that on LTT. It sounds very similar to something you'd find on hospital records or UKF. Shame it's so obscure
9:44 I don't think any YT video has made me laugh this much in a long time xD gg editors
The cinematic interlude I didn't know I needed
Take this comment to the top. Editors are insecure.
We like.
my day = made. cheers for the time stamp. i've watched it 5 times just now
Did that man just ASSUME THAT VR HEADSET
Linus got the goggols effect on his face when he took off the headset
Someone's gotta say, you get a lot more choppiness when casting the display, which they do through the whole video...
Linus: I was wrong
Ltt team: we told you
Linus:this game is $30
His t-shirts: am I a joke to you
Linus:In a cool world with flashy lights.
Meanwhile in the real world:Some guy dancing
My gf gave me the Quest as a gift on my bday last week and i was like why did you spend your savings on a VR for me! but oh boy i was so wrong me & my gf have played it almost everyday for about 1-2hrs daily in the last week & we love it.
No wires made it so simple to play in my living room. I have a rtx 2080 build pc in my room but i do not have a enough space to play there but if the oculus link cord is large enough i thing this is the best thing my gf to have gifted me this year!
Worth the Price & Experience.
I am getting the feeling that your gf gave you the oculus because she wanted it lol
@@herzbr psst. Unplug the 2080 if you don't want her using it and then unplug the mobo
Taran has been using too many macros at 9:44
TARAN, this is an intervention!!
Can we see a review of the Oculus Quest 2?
dont forget quest having Link, making it not just a "low end" option
And to what I know oculus link makes it an even greater headset
You were the only one that thought VR was dead. No one else thought that.
What this guy said ^. He speaks the truth. Only fake journalists writing fake articles bashing VR and this whiny UA-camr thought VR was dead.
@Istvan Varga That's not what an enthusiast is at all
Already said it in another comment, but I'll say it again here. Luke's and Linus' comments have been taken out of context time and time again. Hell Linus even mentions in this video the point they were original trying to make.
Seriously, LTT gets so much hate in stuff like VR focused subreddits over misconstrued comments.
I laughed out loud when you were dancing in the background.
The DDR throwback got me LOL'ing!!!
I’m not gonna lie.. that was some pretty legit lightsaber beatbox effects at the end there.
9:54 guy jamming in background and Linus doing his thing looks like a 2 person party :DDD

$550 equivalent here. A no from me as well.
Does it handle the pc vr games? And does it do multiplayer with other that have a vr headset?
My brother bought a quest... Ive never been in vr before and i used it... Ive used it for a few weeks now... And for my first time using vr i love it... Sure! Beat saber doesent look as good as it does on other vr systems but i honestly love everything about it...
Best. Vr. Yet.
(For me)
I wasn’t really sold on VR until I bought a quest.
That sounds like a "you" problem, but welcome to the VR world. There's lots to enjoy and many things to experience :)
Once you go VR it's hard to go back. No joke.
So wait, you don’t need a computer to play? The games are just in the headset?
Aaliyah Does Stuff you need nothing. Just the headset and you can use it. Anytime. Anywhere. It’s legit.
