Oculus Rift S, anyone? Linus forgot to mention it entirely!!!!!!! No need for extra cameras at all, for $ 400, it’s a good VR headset...
Oculus said they would send one, then ghosted. While I was waiting, this came out. All in good time.
Linus giving them the cold shoulder, good move.
i refunded the oculus rift s, didnt rlly like it, the wmr is much better
Phillipe i agree with you I have the oculus rift s and with the limited amount of space I have it works perfectly for my predicament because of the use of the inside out track as opposed to the outside in with the base stations. I really enjoy not having to do all of the routing for the base station and not having a super long drawn out setup of the rift s. I feel like it is being overlooked by many because people are complaining about the tracking abilities but I have not had any issues with the tracking of the rift s and for 400$ it’s a steal for the specs and everything that comes with it
@@LinusTechTips wait because oculus didnt send you one, u didnt mention it in the video?! just buy it like everyone else dont be cheap

Hey man, this video is what convinced me to go for the Index. I finished building my new PC on new years day, and my headset arrived this past friday. No prior VR experience.
I'm blown away. So, completely blown away by it all. It's felt intuitive enough considering this is my first experience, minimal to no motion sickness pending the game. Thank you for this incredible video!!
Hey! What are your specs? And how does it run the index
Hope you aren't still stuck in Gaben's queue for one and hope it cooperates with you. Coming from a DK2, Oculus Rift, OG Vive, and a Quest owner, the Index is just perfect. The biggest thing NOT mentioned in the video, incase you have tried another headset, is the Field of View for up and down is ALSO higher. This is why games like HL: Alyx has more things on the floor and on tables: you can just look with your eyes whereas in most other headsets, you HAVE to look down due to the FOV being smaller.
I'm testing an index right now for work purposes and my God. First VR experience and it's just mind blowing. This is completely worth the $1000 and now I'm considering buying one myself. Rig is only 2 970s in SLI and a 1700x at stock no overclock but it's been buttery smooth so far. Definitely though the 970s are the limiting factor. Looking at a 3080 right now which should completely remove any limitations.
Damn y’all got me thinking about pulling the trigger on the index lol
@@Always-Decent I was thinking the same, but I'm going to wait to see if the Decagear delivers. Still sounds too good to be true, but I still hope I'm proven wrong. HP Rerverb G2 visuals with Index-like full finger tracking controllers, inside out tracking, $50 wireless optional addon, and all for $450?!?!?!?! Super skeptical, but crossing fingers, toes, and anything else I can get to cross lol. If it comes to fruition it could be what creates the tidal wave of people adopting VR.
For Beat Saber there is a mod called "Saber Tailor" that allow you to change the angle of the sabers, I find it really needed after switching to the new controllers.
Yeah I had a mod kit before, but curiously after switching to the index it disappeared. Was gonna look into it when I have a free evening.
Linus Tech Tips if you grip the index controllers further in the back and slightly rotated they work perfectly. For me they then feel more like sabers and actually kinda awesome.

Other companies would slap a big "UP TO BLANK FOV" on the box but Valve doesn't because they don't know what setting you are most comfortable with which is the most important thing for VR.

Hey Linus. If your wife is having motion sickness issues I highly recommend spending some time evaluating your graphics pipeline. I recently got an Index myself and started having motion sickness again (though I hadn't experienced it since my original DK2). And personally, I'm running a 1080 TI.
Some things I recommend you try:
1. Get an app called fpsVR from Steam and run it before the game. Check to make sure your frame rates really are what you think they are. Some of the tech in SteamVR can make you think there are more frames than they are, but this tech can also wreak havoc on those that suffer from simulator sickness.
2. Open Steam VR settings and pay attention to the performance metrics. Especially pay attention to Reprojection and Motion Smoothing. If your rig is not able to keep up with the refresh rate of the display (90, 120 or 144) it will drop into one of these two modes.
3. Reprojection is the worst because it's having to reuse old frames. This is also seen as Judder. But I personally believe that even Motion Smoothing was making me sick. Motion Smoothing tries to create new frames based on path prediction. But if, for example, you quickly turn your head, you may end up with a frame drawn on the predicted path rather than the actual path. I believe this is what was making me sick. I recommend turning Motion Smoothing OFF and reducing your quality settings until you hit the target frame rate.
4. Check your quality settings. Both under the Frame Timing AND under the Application tab. If Frame Timing is 150% (the default recommended value for the Valve Index, BTW), all games will run at 150% even if their Application settings are at 100%. My 1080 TI was struggling to keep up with the default 150% metric, which was dropping it into Motion Smoothing. Again, I recommend turning OFF Motion Smoothing and turning your quality settings down (in-game, in the Steam VR settings or both) until your hardware can hit the target without assitance.
5. Pick the right balance between 120 Hz and 144 Hz. 144 Hz will help with simulator sickness but at the cost of visual fidelity. If your wife is especially susceptible you might want to choose 144 Hz over the graphics quality. But that will be a balance that's up to her.
6. Consider a graphics card upgrade. I will be switching to a 2080 TI soon, but even the much cheaper 2080 Super would allow you to render significantly more visual fidelity while also maintaining 144 Hz.
Best of luck. I feel her pain, so do let us know what you find and I hope she's able to enjoy VR soon without the sickness!
So, you want to test the hands but you didnt try the aperture hands lab demo to see whats possible with the right support?
Didn't test Blade and Sorcery either, which has full finger presence and uses the body tracking too.

Pets DO take after their owners.
Warning: the Valve Index has a few technical faults at the moment. Screens are artifacting after weeks of use, and the thumbsticks often don't click or even actuate in certain directions (including forward). These issues have caused a ton of drama in the VR community in recent months, because Valve refuses to acknowledge these problems, and claims it's 'by design' lmao.
My unit wasn't affected by either of these issues, but my lighthouse definitely makes more noise than it should.
They actuate but dont give feedback but it does register, at least on mine
Remember that the dissatisfied will speak up far more than those who have a flawless experience. The only issue my headset has experience is the very common lack of clicking on the thumbsticks, but everything works software wise. Believe me, if I wasn't at work I'd be in VR rn and too busy to respond to this comment

Just never open the box, then the cat will be alive AND dead.
Ah the box theory
You will never know if it is alive or dead but at this moment its both

Tubby J I think you mean alive amd dead
you can get this awesome VR experience or the apple monitor stand. your choice.
But how's the Valve Index gonna help me support my 5000$ monitor?
Apple sucks
I was kinda waiting for this comment xD
Apple VR Stand
@@icipher6730 Shh, don't ruin the magic. Apple VR is just a regular monitor stand with mirrors and 2000$ price tag attached.

It was just too small for anyone who didn't invest in it to pay attention.
In late 2015 the original Rift wasn't even released. The only things that existed were a few development kits.
In 2016 the Rift was bought by super VR enthusiasts. While there was a good number of people playing -compared to '15- it couldn't be considered an industry.
It's hard for something to be dead when it was never alive to begin with.
It's a shame people think VR might be "dead", that couldn't be further from the truth.
Most people I know are super excited about VR. We all want it, but only 2-3 people I know actually bought it. The rest of us are just lurking and waiting for the games to develop, and prices to drop. They shouldn’t judge the future of VR based on current sales. The majority of people haven’t bought a headset yet, even though they are going to eventually. Lets just hope companies and developers see the bright future of VR and keep making it better and better, even if sales are low, and eventually it will pay off.
it's expensive, and in some countries almost impossible to buy due the price, and besides that it needs a huge pc, most people have a psvr, i think rift quest will help to make it more popular.
@No name ok 2020 is going to be the year of VR. With boneworks just having come out and a half-life game with the source engine 2 just around the corner. Almost all the headsets are sold out.
@No name ok just another bitter kid not happy with where he is in life so needs to ridicule others on then internet for some sort of validation
@@richardstylez1950 I'm actually in that exact boat right now, most/all of the VR game's I've seen have been more arcadey or mini game looking to me, I've been waiting for something a bit closer to a standard video game to come out, I'm getting super into all of this now because of boneworks, which is the first VR game I've seen that I'm actually super excited for, if more games like that come out, the VR naysayers will disappear in no time
