Hi i live in Australia, my name is Jeannette Coman I'm 68 yrs with my carer Reg who is 68 yrs retired. We love watching your shows. Reg has worked with wood making furniture way back many yrs ago so we find watching you a nice way to pass the time. I must say this recent piece you made was interesting with the idea to put two colours into segmented trays then after set time taking them out to then glueing them together with two different colours together made it nice, then with the spacers and another pour of the purple. The colours were nicely blended and at the end of the whole process colours really popped with that new high gloss made the piece totally stand out. The idea of the underneith footing to stand on made it complete. Supa job well made unique. 🎉 love your shows cheers Jen xxx😊
I've watched several UA-cam channels that show woodturning. I've never subscribed to any of the channels because they don't talk during the videos. You are the first woodturning channel I've ever subscribed to. I love that you explain what you are doing.
while I am a big fan of your youtube content, I'll confess I'm not usually super into the very colourful, resin-heavy pieces (just not to my taste, no insult to your work which is absolutely top notch) but this one is really quite lovely. Something about the way the bunya pine bits form organic, odd shapes in the finished piece really compliments the swirls of iridescence in the resin, it's very harmonious, and the vertical walnut sections ground everything beautifully.
First thought, I waited all week and you make preformed resin cubes and use milled walnut. Instead of randomly placing them in a mold, you mix the colors, one on top of the other, mirroring around the mold. Not what I was looking forward to at all. However, right up there with all your coolest things you have done for us. Jim, you are very talented, you have the vision, the touch, many of us only dream of. I know its a lot of work moving the cameras, to get the right shot, then editing. Your hard work is appreciated, thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Simply gorgeous! It looks like a piece of ancient Egyptian art. The wood gives a copper, bronze & gold accent to the the hollow form. The pine cone segments look like the remnant of a dynamic Egyptian scene. Mesmerizing!
Blue, green, purple, and gold. My most favorite color combination. You used three in resin colors and the wood could be my fourth. You put more sparkle in my eyes as I watched your most recent art masterpiece 🤗🤗💚💚
The most beautiful creations I’ve ever seen. I just accidentally happened upon your channel and 4 hours later, I’m still watching ! Bravo Mr. Sprague, absolutely stunning art pieces and wonderful use of our natural resources.
I am in constant awe of your craft. You are such a joy to watch with your eye for detail, incredible range of skill and ease in which you deliver your instruction. I’m giddy with excitement and anticipation every Friday when I get that notification that your new video is available! You are so down to Earth-I truly feel like I am having a conversation with my talented neighbor from up the road, so to speak, as you share your latest endeavor. Your art is unmatched, as you’ve proved again today, and you are a true Inspiration.
You are so right! I never would have thought to put it that way but it truly is like a conversation with a friend. He is so easy to be around, so to speak. 🙂
I agree: VERY VERY COOL! The colour combination is perfect!!! I like how the purple blended outward into the other sections. Great call on adding the pedestal.
When you were first started with the mold I didn’t think it would work…I was surprised at how nice it looked! The finished bowl is outstanding 👍. Have to add that I’m traveling across Canada from BC to Manitoba - absolutely terrific sights, people and excellent camping sites!!!!
Sweet Baby Jesus!!!! This is so dang Beautiful 😍!!!!! I LUV the colors this is one of the most beautiful turns I've seen since I started watching yal!!!!! Than
Dear Jim, every week I wait to see your new creation. You are my weekly TV show.I always love your creation, but this week OMG you just blown my mind with that dream bowl is a deam.
Well Jim: I have to say that you have out done yourself this time. I really like the colours and the way they blended in with the pine cones. The maple wood was also a good choice for a little extra colour. Putting the foot on the bottom does wonders to the form by lifting it off of the surface. Great piece of work. Next weeks turning will have to surpass this one. Take care and stay safe neighbour. PS: thanks for the segment on getting it out of the bucket.
I love this week's bowl! just beautiful! I'm always amazed by the color combinations, but adding the wood blocks to the cast just made the piece!! the foot added class and you would never know it was an add-on... looks like it was turned with the original piece! again, I really love it!!
As a 'hobby' turner I found your take on the business really interesting. I used to do a load of craft shows - until our association folded. The biggest problems I found were... living in Scotland the customers had very deep pockets but very short arms and the people coming in were older and had all the shelf fillers and trinkets they had accumulated over the years (and were trying to clear out and 'downsize'). Younger folk just aren't interested in hand-made stuff. I can understand why you think it is probably your favourite piece ever to have off off your lathe -- it is beyond spectacular.
Really happy to have found this channel. I've had tons of wood-turning/resin videos pop up in my various feeds over the past few years, but they've all been quick time-lapses with no narration that didn't give me any appreciation for the work that actually goes into these projects. Really cool and engaging to see all the challenges involved, and your end-results are gorgeous. Love your work, man.
Mr. Jim, this is one of the most colorful bowls you have made and I love it!! The different colors and how they combine with each other is absolutely gorgeous. I haven’t been on to see your work in the last couple months as my husband has been really sick. He passed on August 5th and I was looking for something light and positive and your video popped up. Thank you for helping take my mind in a different direction. But beautiful bowl!!!
Your creativity never ceases to amaze me Jim. I am always so excited to see what you come up with next! I cannot wait to own one of your pieces someday.
I love the shape of this piece. It's just gorgeous all the way around. I'm a big fan of pine cones, etc. things that add "texture." Once again, a nice nice job.
Absolutely beautiful!! I love the foot, I think it gives this a gorgeous look.Your very talented. I watch every video and can’t wait for new ones to come out. Keep up the awesome job !!
Well Jim absolutely amazing piece the colour combo you chose is just stunning. I really do love watching your videos. And that ks for talking about the business side of things it's great to hear from someone with so much experience like yourself. Top work like always.
That piece is right up my alley! Purple is my favorite color! I love that you used pearlized colors in the initial molds and then with the purple. The use of the plastic fruit tray to make the "blocks" with the nut/cones in it is genius! The entire piece is gorgeous! The nut/comes look like wood flower petals almost! How unique! The wood bands up the sides and the matching pedestal look almost gold in the contrast withe the resin. Truly a beautiful and remarkable piece! I just love it! You're quite talented and have excellent taste for color schemes and ideas! Kudos to you for sharing your tips for those who want to pursue making and selling of their crafts, wood and other mediums. Very sage advice!
Just WOW! It's the most beautiful thing I've seen in many years. It speaks to my inner bohemian hippie chick-ness. The colors are perfect. You are so talented. 🥰
Great piece, Jim! That combination of colours *really* reminds me of something and I can't think what it was. That's going to bug me all day... And some great advice in the voice over on how to get better results when turning your hobby into an income source. I started on Etsy about 4-5 years ago and sold a few canes here and there, but when I joined Pintrest with a "Canes I have made" board, my Etsy views and sales went up a fair bit. I put up my 3rd UA-cam vid a couple of weeks ago and that seems to be driving some traffic as well. (Gave you a shout out and linked your channel in the latest vid as your infill techniques were a bit of an inspiration for me.)
Jim I'm really glad I found your channel. You are a well versed teacher. I find myself hanging on every word & that's refreshing. I've got so much more I'd like to talk to you about but, that'll have to wait. Jim, please, continue to keep us educated! (OH yeah, GREAT hollow form!)
What an amazing piece! That base turned out perfect 👌 I'm not sure about the purple, I'd love to see it in a more neutral color. But I do love the way it filled everything in and brought it together! It goes nicely with the rest, just not for me.
That is so beautiful 😍 The foot on the bottom really takes it to the next level. I am still amazed how you can do these great finishes without having to deal with dust. Thr closeup at the end shows just how flawless it really is. I am curious, did this take 4 days to do the finish? Was it on your lathe the whole time? I absolutely love this piece, it turned out amazing 💕
The bowl tuned out very nice after putting so much hard work into it. A lovely surprise. Nice to hear that a man from my own country sent you the bag of timber to use. Lovely.
I known most people in Australia, but I know nothing of this so called Burnie. To the best of my knowledge (and I’m a language expert) Bernie is a Lavic name. I’ve no idea why there’s this silly talk of Australian…. Bernie.
Jim, that bowl came out excellent. I'm sure I am echoing the views of many of your viewers when I say that you are always courteous, respectful and readily willing to offer your opinion and insight. I certainly appreciate your sharing of experience. Keep up the excellent work.
Very nice, I really enjoy your voice overs. As a hobby woodturner I never enter my work in any shows as I do not want to take away any sales from someone who may be trying to make a living. Take care.
You should see those Bunya nuts in person! You take your life in your hands if you park anywhere near a Bunya tree, they are huge! You did a great job!
I enjoy watching you do the medium and finish work, sanding and polishing. I used to make drinking fountains, in my hometown, and learned how to take a flat-finished, ungrained stainless-steel bowl and put a beautiful, soft luster on it, with sandpaper and Scotch Bright.
A true artist will tell you that the "gods" have much to say about how a piece turns out. Flying 'by the seat of one's pants' is quite an important part of creativity. And, you have it, my friend. Beautiful bowl!
Jim, thank you for another great video. I've only been watch your channel for a few weeks but i bet I've seen 20 vids by now. I'm not a wood worker I watch just to see the artistry and creation. You're kinda like the Bob Ross of wood turning. 🤣 keep up the great work. Thank you.
My husband is just getting into wood turning and your pieces and videos have been inspirational. Now he has a huge list of wood turning tools on his Christmas list lol. Truly great to watch and learn techniques from you. Beautiful work!!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL! The most important lesson I took from this: if someone gives you beautiful materials and you do not know what to do with them, just sit with the materials. You will figure it out. Well done.
Thank you for your comments about the business side of turning. I've done my first 3 shows this summer with a couple more to go before the snow flies. You're absolutely right about the "unique" and different pieces being the pieces that catch the attention of the crowd. I had 2 burl/resin pieces this past weekend that were double the price of my typical wood bowl, and one of them sold this first day. From what I can tell by checking out the other turners pieces, my bowls are at least competitive in price and I'm not underselling. I'm far from a professional turner, but speaking to the people at the shows who buy and appreciate your work is very inspirational and motivates me to get back to the shop and turn the next piece. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
I love that you chose to create art after serving in the military. Your hard work is obvious and I think the most important thing you stressed in setting up a biz is resilience. Failures will happen. Its what you do with them. ;-) and look! at what you create. Astonishingly beautiful piece. I missed a lot of videos but I came back to see what this was all about. Glad I did. 😊
I think it’s just stunning, and as a born and bred Queenslander in Australia where the Bunya nut pine tree comes from, I can appreciate the beautiful vase you have made. As a child we used to collect the huge pine cones at about 5kls each and pry the big nuts out and either boil or roast them on an open fire yummmmm !!! Think of tiny pine nuts and imagine them 100 times bigger for each nut. Huge!!!!! Ahhh the memories!!!! And now they are ab endangered tree!!!
Your choice of purple with the blue and green had me wondering what you were thinking. Your choice turned out so beautiful. Adding the foot is an additional level of good thinking.
Very lovely form, and yes, I agree with the addition of the foot. It gives the form a lift and helps set apart from all the rest. Beautiful color combination too!
Gosh thats amazing. I wasn't sure about how the blue green and purple would look together but it turned out wonderful. Really highlight the pieces of Bunya cone

A beautiful pc of Art……..
Looks like the “Simon game” we had years ago. I think my 6 years my Jr brother had the game. Anyway, first thing I thought of when ya brought it out.
Perfectly said
Simply gorgeous! It looks like a piece of ancient Egyptian art. The wood gives a copper, bronze & gold accent to the the hollow form. The pine cone segments look like the remnant of a dynamic Egyptian scene. Mesmerizing!

Can I just say “Oh My God”. Awesome doesn’t even get close. Extraordinary!

The willful sharing of what's led to one's own success, in the hopes that others will find it too, is really beautiful.

I don't see how a resin bowl could ever be more spectacular than that piece. Well done!
Thank you very much!
Hi, Aussie here 😊 just had to comment on how STUNNING this piece is. I absolutely love it. Outstanding work!!!
Thanks 😊
this thing is funkadelic! it’s like an album cover from the 60’s came to life. that crystal purple is blindingly vibrant, i dig it! far out duuuude 😎
Thanks for watching!
I love how the foot actually brings the wood spacers into the piece more naturally. The colors go well together too
Thanks for watching
I agree, it absolutely added character to the piece. Absolutely gorgeous!
I'm kind of like you every new piece I see you do I think it's the prettiest one you've done yet
Thank you very much!
I agree: VERY VERY COOL! The colour combination is perfect!!! I like how the purple blended outward into the other sections. Great call on adding the pedestal.

I find it hard to believe that new hobby turners have quality that is on par with your work. 🥇❤️
Some people are just naturals, lol. Thanks
When you were first started with the mold I didn’t think it would work…I was surprised at how nice it looked! The finished bowl is outstanding 👍.

Kudos to you for sharing your tips for those who want to pursue making and selling of their crafts, wood and other mediums. Very sage advice!

Great piece, Jim! That combination of colours *really* reminds me of something and I can't think what it was. That's going to bug me all day...

Thanks 😊
Jim, your color sense is off the charts. What a GORGEOUS hollow form. 😍
Thanks 😊
What an amazing piece! That base turned out perfect 👌
I'm not sure about the purple, I'd love to see it in a more neutral color. But I do love the way it filled everything in and brought it together! It goes nicely with the rest, just not for me.
Thank you! Cheers!
That would even more gorgeous with a light down in it to shine through the resin. It is truly a uniquely beautiful piece.
Thanks 😊
Cada vez que assisto seus videos fico mais encantada com seu trabalho! Brasil
Thank you very much!
Your right it is VERY VERY COOL! I’m glad you switched the blue and green pieces. Great choice of colors and raising it up on a foot.
Thank you so much!
There’s really only one full day of turning and then bits and pieces here and there to get it finished. Thanks for watching
The bowl tuned out very nice after putting so much hard work into it. A lovely surprise. Nice to hear that a man from my own country sent you the bag of timber to use. Lovely.

Thanks for watching
The wood segments finished almost have a metallic look to them which goes so well with the colors! 👏👏
The rock needs a name... 😉😎
Yes! Thank you!
I should do a poll with names, lol.
I was skeptical about the green & blue colors initially, but the purple really brought things together
Thanks!
Very nice, I really enjoy your voice overs. As a hobby woodturner I never enter my work in any shows as I do not want to take away any sales from someone who may be trying to make a living. Take care.
Thanks for watching!
I really like the voice over, helps to fill the void of the machine and it's nice to hear some of your thoughts & experiences. Beautiful piece!
Awesome, thank you!
I think it came out fantastic, the colors and the shape. The foot was a great improvement that added elegance.
Thanks for watching!
Love the way the pine "shines" almost red...lovely!
Thanks for watching
The fruit bowl idea allows for such a nice combination of resin colours. Really cool!
Thanks for watching!
You should see those Bunya nuts in person! You take your life in your hands if you park anywhere near a Bunya tree, they are huge! You did a great job!
I’ve seen the pictures, definitely something I wouldn’t want to fall on my head, lol. Thanks for watching
It looks like glass it's a beautiful bowl you're a genius in the wood turning world
Wow! Thank you very much!
I think that is one of your best hollow form's. It's simply awesome.
😎👍👍👍👍👍👍🤓
Thanks for watching
I enjoy watching you do the medium and finish work, sanding and polishing. I used to make drinking fountains, in my hometown, and learned how to take a flat-finished, ungrained stainless-steel bowl and put a beautiful, soft luster on it, with sandpaper and Scotch Bright.
With metal you certainly can achieve that finish. Thanks for watching

I loved the addition of the foot. That balanced the bowl out nicely. Good job, Jim!

Lol, thanks 😊
So beautiful. I love that it will always be a one of a kind. A Jim Sprague creation.
Thank you very much!
Amazing how those blocky castings of the bunya cones became so organic and blended so well with the purple. The foot is a lovely addition.
Thank you so much!

Very beautiful. Myself, I think the addition of the base kind of ties all of the wood elements together. Love the colors!

Interacting with customers is the only way to build a business! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely STUNNING! Another gorgeous piece! Thanks Jim!!
Many thanks!
This is probably my favourite piece now. Love all the colours.
Thanks 😊

That’s too bad, had no idea they were at risk. Thanks for watching!
Words can’t describe how beautiful that is !

Stunning piece Jim. The 4 colors came together beautifully. The foot is a stroke of genius. Have just the right lift to this piece. Super job.
Thanks for watching Doug!
Your choice of purple with the blue and green had me wondering what you were thinking. Your choice turned out so beautiful. Adding the foot is an additional level of good thinking.

You're right, that added base made a big difference...more graceful.

A bowl of earth and sky magic. I like it a lot!

Beautiful and love how the purple blends all the colours together. Marti Gra colours of the King cake! So festive!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful hollow form. I wasn't sure I was going to like this one until it was completed!
Thanks
Very lovely form, and yes, I agree with the addition of the foot. It gives the form a lift and helps set apart from all the rest. Beautiful color combination too!
Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful bowl. It does look even better with the foot. The foot looks as if it was part the plan from the beginning.
Thanks 😊
Gosh thats amazing. I wasn't sure about how the blue green and purple would look together but it turned out wonderful. Really highlight the pieces of Bunya cone
