Praise Cadence for such a wonderful first episode! Intriguing new characters, exciting combat, great worldbuilding, moments of genuine horror, and some of the best humor I’ve encountered in a long time. We’re off to a great start!
Was very hesitant after end of Oxventure, but this whole premise is so cool and eerie, love it! Robin is a vibe and *spoiler * is awesome, glad to see a *spoiler* finally in Oxventure.
I feel like the Geth campaign was intended as a lark that had them playing gamified versions of their presenter personas that lasted way longer than expected. (Still loved it, don't get me wrong.) Stuff like BITD/Deadlands showed us what these creators could do without that initial limitation; this feels like the next level of that, and it's lovely to see.
I've watched this pretty much twice already and I love the new setting! I joked in the live chat that I thought this would be like a mixture of Monty Python and the Holy Grail with Dog Soldiers, but there's just so much more confidence from everyone than I expected. The world feels vast, but lived-in in a way that obviously takes a lot of care and attention to balance. The characters already feel real in a way it took the guild a while to figure out, and the politics at play within the world will be great to uncover over time as the new crew become more significant. And Mike's wig is phenomenal!
Johnny literally made me cover my mouth in horror over some of their descriptions Especially that second battle! They are one of the DMs (gms, storry tellets, etc) that really make it easy for me to visualize what is going on. Everyone was just so in character and amazing. My pretty high expectations have already been exceeded. 11/10, no notes.
Robin is so precious, I can't. After never quite being able to catch up with the original Oxventure, I'm so psyched to be here at the beginning for Wyrdwood. Even with the luck pervert :D
49:53 Luck Pervert might be the first t-shirt design, but I really think Willowfine holding up two bloody arrows, saying “you’re welcome!” through a big smile should be the second.
I'm absolutely in love with this already! I love everyone's characters. "Luck pervert" was not a line I was expecting, but I'm there for it. The delivery of "Robin, you should slit his throat" is perfect. Happen and Lug just egging him on is great. Everyone giving Cressida crap for her name and then for the pineapple bit sent me laughing again. I will say that Mike and Ellen have a talent for playing haughty posh people. Is Happen's nickname just going to be "pervert" from now on? And I love that no one is surprised at the foot discussion. That description of the man transforming is horrific. I definitely swore when Johnny asked Lug how much hp he has. Holy shit! That reveal with Robin - Morven. The change from Robin to Morven is magnificent. Andy proved his acting chops with Deadlands, so I really shouldn't be surprised by the masterful change. I love the negotiations with Morven. Absolutely cannot wait for next week!
As soon as they flashed up Robin's character stats, I immediately started laughing out loud and thinking, "Why TF does this character exist?" He has FOUR HP, NO modifiers, and his job was "stolen by a dog"! WTF? 🤣
Same, and then it all made sense. Admittedly I swore as soon as Happen shot Robin in the leg. I knew there was little chance he would roll low enough that Robin wouldn't outright die. They did clarify for me that Robin can only die if Morven actually is killed; if she goes to sleep or is knocked then Robin comes back. If she's killed then they're both dead.
I was worried that I'd enjoy this season less because it seemed much more serious than previous ones, but I'm glad to say that I was wrong. There's still plenty of comedy, and the story overall has me very exited. The characters, the rp, the setting, are all absolutely excellent. Maybe something more serious from you all is way more my speed than I thought. So, what I'm saying is: WOHOOOOOO, MORE OXVENTURE, I'M SO HYPED!
It's the perfect mix of horror, fantasy and comedy! You can take the Oxventure guild out of a comedy but you can't take comedy out of the Oxventure guild
I absolutely lost it during the cress conversation, you can already see a lot of potential in the dynamic between these characters (for more than just comedy, although comedy is always good). It was also great how two of the six characters have already found their BFFs, and each of those BFFs are not particularly happy about that.
Yeah it really does seem like Ellen just said " I wanna be prudence, that looked like fun the past seven years EDIT I'd like to retract my statement, Ellen is really deep diving on her role playing with this character and she really isn't Prudence like at all, my comment was made in ignorance
Jane describing her character as coming from the village of Langtree has completely thrown me, as my brother used to be headteacher of the primary school there. Don't recall north Devon as being a particular hotbed for aasimar...
Great to have Oxventure back. Love the new characters, the new setting, Johnny's mechanics for the game, and most of all, love seeing you all have a great time.
My word, that's an intense start to the campaign. Episode one and we have eyeballs on a stick as punishment for racism, being literally turned inside-out as punishment for hubris, and one of the characters already dying* to friendly fire. Love the atmosphere of teams of adventurers heading out into the wild, being in contact only with the neighbouring teams. I expect messages of "This is Team Southwest, we are surrounded, we need supp..." followed by stone-radio silence.
Just commenting again because I'm rewatching it again. Lol. This was an excellent start to the new series. I'm enjoying all of the new characters, and Johnny did such a spectacular job with the world and intro. 😊
What a great start! Glad to see its ambition of telling a bigger story without losing the humour and chaos of the group. And "praise Cadence" has entered my lexicon
Hell yeah lets go! Edit: Got to hand it to Andy he really commited to the bit of Robin being absolutely a normal human, which makes me really wonder just what the hell is he planning. Edit 2: Oh god they werent kidding when they said its inspired by folk horror. Edit 3: Mo... Morvin? He was planning something! Well that was one hell of a first episode. Cant wait to see whats next.
I was a bit worried about the folk horror setting overpowering the usual Oxventure kind of humour, but this blend works really well:) Can't wait to see more!
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited!!! This setting sounds wonderful and the peeks at everyone’s characters make me even more intrigued! I fell behind with oxventurers guild stuff a few years back and haven’t been able to catch up, so I’m super excited to keep up with this new campaign without a backlog! Marking my calendar as we speak, can’t wait to see what you’ve all been up to!
@@oxventure My plans to watch live have been foiled by my job! I’ll be at work for the first hour of the premiere. I have a few questions if you don’t mind so I can plan out how I can watch as much live as possible! 1. Is every episode so far planned to air on Fridays always at the same time as this premiere? If so I’ll always miss the first hour :( but eventually I might be able to change my work schedule or request a day off here or there for any specials hehe 2. About how long would you estimate each episode to be? If I miss the first hour, about how many hours/minutes would I still be able to watch live before the episode broadcast ends? I imagine each episode varies a bit and I’m not sure how many episodes you’ve had edited yet so maybe you don’t know, but any ballpark estimation would be helpful 3. Will there be closed captions during the live airing of episodes? My job sometimes will allow me to watch and read captions of something, but it would have to be muted. So I’m wondering if I would be able to watch live and understand what’s being said even if I turn the sound off. Still super excited and I’ll be watching whatever I miss immediately once it becomes a public video, but I’ve never seen oxventure episodes as they air and I’d love to be able to do that as much as possible and be in the chat hanging out with everyone whenever I can. Immensely excited and I hope to be in chat as much as possible!! See u soon :)
Yes, the new campaign is amazing and dark and moody and wonderful, but I cannot shake the idea that the entire premise of the world is 'there was a sudden clap of thunder'
Really looking forward to more of this! Love the debt mechanic and new setting. The new characters are fun, and the costumes are great. Amazing job, y'all
My word. This was something and a bit. Johnny seemed to be channeling their inner Matt Mercer, which I'm a big fan of. A lot more drama than the original campaign tales, though I'm still here for all the usual amount of puns, jokes and shenanigans. And Ellen being evil?! I can't wait for next week
Feel like I need to watch these twice, once live to enjoy the chaos of reacting to everything along with everyone else, and a second to actually focus on the details of what's going on 😆 Had a great time, very keen to see what Happens next!
This feels right. Its obvious how much thought everyone put into this already, I love the Rules that Johnny set up and the picture of the world they painted so far. I was fearing a Campaign that will try to be way too serious and epic. But seemingly, you guys took everything that was fun about Oxventure and brought it with you into the fun, yet compelling storytelling I enjoy so much from you. I can't lift enough Hats of my Head in respect for Johnny. Furthermore: The Characters are allready intruiging and I am very proud of Mike for having the Barbarian Rules prepared
I’m so excited for this saga. Fun fact: I was struggling with my first play through of BG3 as a monk and asked myself, “what would Merilwyn do?” I started a new play through as a Druid and was OP as heck. Can’t wait to see what inspiration (double entendres intended) I get from this one!
From character art and the way the players look alone I am 95% confident in Robin being a child of an unholy union between NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. I would even venture as far to say that he's a child of an unholy union between "Bye Bye Bye" and "Backstreet's Back"
It took me 4 months to finally watch the last oxventure season since I know I was gonna be sad after, but I'm so happy to meet all these new characters and watch along a whole new adventure
Well dammmmmn, you all knocked it out of the park. That was a brilliant first session and I love the homebrew stuff added, espically the D100 roll to see if your magic debt is due
Wow! That was brilliant. Everyone's characters are fantastic, the setting draws you in. The world feels dangerous, but it still splices well with the Oxventure antics
So jealous of you all! I work during the time of the weekly premieres but luckily I've been able to chat with family lately about the episodes after I've gotten home and caught up. So glad to have these bonding times through stories like Oxventure!
This episode was an absolute revelation, I've been watching for years hoping for a deep, dramatic story experience from Oxventure, Deadlands got me most of the way and this feels like an expansion of the dramatic storytelling of that campaign! Every NPC and player character was absolutely brilliant and this story and world is deeply interesting from the outset. This might be one of my favourite D&D settings just off the bat, every since sentence from Johnny's narration feels like it carries a weight, the worldbuilding is on par with some of my favourites in the whole D&D subgenre, I haven't been this excited for a new campaign in years.
I loved this so much. I love all of you. I'm so excited to spend more time with you, and I promise to do better at keeping up with the episodes. Thank you Johnny and thank you Oxventurers.
I'm only nine minutes into the VOD and already loving this setting. Johnny, you did a fantastic job with it and I can't wait to see where it all leads!
Absolutely fantastic. I've been a fan since the Spicy Rat Caper, and this is even beating Orbpocalyse Saga and Blades in the Dark for how excited I am about this new installment
Johnny: I've never had people cheer a player taking 15 points of damage... Yeah, as Mike levels up and gets more equipment, that number can go down. I loved when I was playing during one of the sessions I was a part of and standing in a point blank Young Red Dragon breath attack only to take 6 points of fire damage, roar in the dragon's face, and behead it in one swing
You love to see it! You all look great and I hope you have a swell time during this campaign. I would really enjoy if you got to level up a bit more but Johnny is my favorite DM to watch and my trust in their judgement is 100%
The new group seems excellent. Amazing world building by Johnny, only one episode in and I'm immediately hooked, can't wait for the next one. Looking forward to the new advantures, and seeing where the story is going to go

1:52:08 my favourite part was when Andy said "it's Morven time!" and morved all over the place
Happen's "Does anyone want to run this one over the finish line?" Absolutely took me out. 😂😂😂. Absolutely brilliantly done everyone!
Also I cannot wait for the first time Robin gets punched out by Lug because they need Morven in a fight.
I had so many theories about Robin and none of them were anywhere near the truth. What an INCREDIBLE character reveal!
Same! I was so far off!
46:11… I'm rewatching this and I just now noticed the ‘sleep walker’ part of Robin’s sheet…
Not a hint I was expecting.
Should have
"Healing Damage! [Willowfire holding bloody eye spears] You're welcome!!"
Buying that shirt in multiple colors
I'm glad Morven got her 8 hours of beauty soup.
I’m about an hour in and I swear that Andy has found a way to play a Chauncey like character. Living the Dream! 💚💜
I really like how Andy is playing Robin Oatcake, especially at around 54:18. Simple, kind, curious, and quietly brave. Cress IS nice in a sandwich.
Normally afraid of change... but then Ellen asked how many 10 armed men there are and I was home 😂
As soon as they flashed up Robin's character stats, I immediately started laughing out loud and thinking, "Why TF does this character exist?" He has FOUR HP, NO modifiers, and his job was "stolen by a dog"! WTF? 🤣
Don't forget the AC 10...
They took our jobs. So now we eat them.
I was confused because Jane said they're level 5 too. The first thought in my head was, "What LVL5 character has +0 modifiers, 4HP and 10AC?!?!"
@@SolaScientiaoh is Morven a woman? My car radio was on the fritz so I might have missed it.
The aesthetic for this one is so beautiful and mysterious. Graceful and threatening. Makes me think of classic fairy tales 🙂
I absolutely lost it during the cress conversation, you can already see a lot of potential in the dynamic between these characters (for more than just comedy, although comedy is always good). It was also great how two of the six characters have already found their BFFs, and each of those BFFs are not particularly happy about that.
1:21:00 Johnny's dramatic building of the story is fantastic and I'm on the edge of my seat! "Nay!...." and Andy is here too. 🤣
Hitting people with a hard baguette? Andy's love of Discworld is showing. Next it'll be a half brick in a sock.
I've tried it. Baguettes get brittle and usually snap in the middle.
What you want is a weighty slab of German dark bread.
@@steveholmes11hard tack comes to mind. Don’t even need to wait for it to go hard.
@@joshuahadams Three or four "chipper" potatoes (or turnips) in a sock - in the style of Ray Winstone in Scum.
He needs a night club.
@@bengoodwin2988 I don’t know if Robin _or_ Morvin could get a license to open one with their shared condition. And Robin’s terrible luck.
The immediate thought from the trailer is: "Did Jane and Ellen hand each other their old character sheets?"
Ellen could also be satyr they never showed her feet she could have hooves
@@nicholaslockner9156 Ellen is definitely more Fey than Demonic, but her character is also giving me Prudence vibes regardless of the horns
Yeah it really does seem like Ellen just said " I wanna be prudence, that looked like fun the past seven years
EDIT I'd like to retract my statement, Ellen is really deep diving on her role playing with this character and she really isn't Prudence like at all, my comment was made in ignorance
@@nicholaslockner91561:05:00 oh, you pervert :D
Jane basically made anti prudence
omg yes character art reveals, excited to learn more about everyone's character and classes
I really like the setting it for some reason is putting me in mind of post roman Britain. With magic obviously.
I got that implication as well
Jane describing her character as coming from the village of Langtree has completely thrown me, as my brother used to be headteacher of the primary school there. Don't recall north Devon as being a particular hotbed for aasimar...
I dunno.. that bunch at the school in Peters Marland were pretty weird. I should know, 45 years ago I was one of them!
Probably gentrification
Can't wait for the "luck pervert" tshirt!! 😂🙌
I feel like it should have an image of natural 1 with "Praise Cadence! May have another?" on it as well
Man. Loving this new magic debt mechanic. Can’t wait to see who gets effected( or affected) first.
I don't know if "healing damage" was intentional or a slip of the tongue but either way it elicited a good laugh from me 😂
Great to have Oxventure back. Love the new characters, the new setting, Johnny's mechanics for the game, and most of all, love seeing you all have a great time.
Really wish Cresseda's leaving home memory was accidentally casting moonbeam...
Can we just take a sec to appreciate the banging soundtrack? Was this Luke's doing? Chef's kiss! So atmospheric!
not luke’s work, but yes, super atmospheric!
The first fight music I've heard before in a series called Drawga. I think it's probably just a royalty free composition.
I was a bit worried about the folk horror setting overpowering the usual Oxventure kind of humour, but this blend works really well:) Can't wait to see more!
It was all going so well and then Andy's feet came up and BOOM! I too am on a journey to wyrdwood...
Yes! Can't wait to see you in the chat!!
If so I’ll always miss the first hour :( but eventually I might be able to change my work schedule or request a day off here or there for any specials hehe
2. About how long would you estimate each episode to be? If I miss the first hour, about how many hours/minutes would I still be able to watch live before the episode broadcast ends? I imagine each episode varies a bit and I’m not sure how many episodes you’ve had edited yet so maybe you don’t know, but any ballpark estimation would be helpful
This was brilliant. The characters, the lore, the whole set, the freaking music! Cant wait for next week. Praise Cadence!
I would love an “8 Hours Of Beauty Soup” shirt
Yeeeeeees!!!
Yes, the new campaign is amazing and dark and moody and wonderful, but I cannot shake the idea that the entire premise of the world is 'there was a sudden clap of thunder'
Don't you DARE
I have to agree. It gives some definite "Binbag done goofed big time" vibes.
I would even venture as far to say that he's a child of an unholy union between "Bye Bye Bye" and "Backstreet's Back"
Ironically/coincidentally Robin did go bye bye bye and then Morven backstreeted back
This was absolutely incredible! that into was gripping, instantly along for the ride again!
We're so excited for this! We made sure my husband got off work and the kids finished their school for the week by 3pm so we could catch the premier.
So jealous of you all! I work during the time of the weekly premieres but luckily I've been able to chat with family lately about the episodes after I've gotten home and caught up. So glad to have these bonding times through stories like Oxventure!
Look at Oxventure! Extra classy and fancy while changing it up. Can't wait.
This is coming at the exact right time , I need something to keep my mind off my 10 year old fur baby needing to be put to sleep tomorrow ❤
That’s rough man. I’m sorry for you
@@pleaseenteraname5267it's okay and thank you ❤
We are going to watch this together and it'll be a memory ❤
I can't wait to see the fanart for this episode! First ever encounter was so eventful
This was a great start to this new setting/characters of Oxventure, really looking forward to the next episode and the wyld turns it will have.
Fantastic! Thanks everyone for a marvelous start to the new campaign!
You love to see it! You all look great and I hope you have a swell time during this campaign. I would really enjoy if you got to level up a bit more but Johnny is my favorite DM to watch and my trust in their judgement is 100%
Love how Willowfine is the least Prudence seeming character that Jane could have created. Buzzing for this and for it using the 2024 rules
I audibly gasped when I saw Jane there must be something sinister lying beneath that preposterously cute exterior
Ok forget I said this, nothing can be more menacing than healing damage
There's a good chance she'll pull a merilwen and melt everyone around her
She went from an evil warlock with demonic ancestry to a good cleric with celestial ancestry
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 I mean Zillah was probably one of the more moral Hobby Horses so it’s not unprecedented.
The new group seems excellent. Amazing world building by Johnny, only one episode in and I'm immediately hooked, can't wait for the next one. Looking forward to the new advantures, and seeing where the story is going to go
After falling behind so much with the old stuff that it became too much of a mental task to catch up I'm so glad the guys decided to begin a whole new world
when andy first presented his character, i had an inkling there was a twist involved. glad to see i was right ! very interesting character and setting, can't wait to see more!
