There was a moment before Mike revealed his HP that he was Schrodinger's Tabaxi!
You. You win "best comment" award for that ^_^
😂😂😂
One of the guys I play with plays a tabaxi named Schrodinger 😂
@@bartholomewlunt3347Does he often get into dicey situations?
Does he like boxes and poison?
Sully just has a constant "I'm just happy to be here" vibe and I'm all here for it.
One of my favorite things on NRB/CN is how much Sully enjoys hanging out and getting silly with his friends. Dude's laugh is beyond contagious and he always seems to be having the absolute best time (even when Dom is torturing him).
When he said "I'm very confused, I don't know what's going on..." I wasn't sure if he was talking in or out of character...
@@SuddenReal yes ;)
I saw Sullivan in the thumbnail and had to check out the video! He's just the most wholesome part of pretty much any video he's in.
Him and Dom are just the best duo, really enjoy their banter.
somehow, Jane casually carrying a penknife is still on brand
I imagine there is also a half pack of Marlbroro reds, an unidentifiable tooth and blueprints for the building.
Also, not allowing anyone else from your party to use your knife is also very Prudence 😄😄
I used to carry one all the time. Can’t anymore cause of work.

"The ocean is impassive." But Luke! "The ocean waves back" was RIGHT THERE
This was both the very first line I saw in the video, and my very first thought upon hearing it. 😂

The cat judge who strictly follows the letter of the law and is also a master criminal is such an Ace Attorney character
I see Sully in thumbnail, I click. He's like a wet and befuddled cat that's just been pulled from the river and is expected to immediately be able to solve math equations upon being returned to dry land. Very excited to see what this game is like!
What an… astonishingly accurate assessment of Sullivan’s personality
Well actually, he's a man-bird.
Sully’s startled bird expression fits quite well with his character being an aaracokra
Fun fact! The startled bird expression comes from many traumatic years in the USSR under Domseph Stalin.
Poor Mike being smashed into a crushed up cat heap by the honest crab really cracked me up
Cracked him up too o_O
Cracked him up so much he almost didn't recover.
And still he was the MVP of this session!
DM applies specific injury effects like no character in D&D ever suffers. "That seems fair."
@@crouchingmarker I feel like Luke rules unfairly against Mike quite often. I remember in an earlier episode he was DM:ing he made Mike roll a DC 18(?) strength check to jump 5 feet lol.
Maybe it is because Mike is less competitive than the others, so Luke is more likely to put him in bad spots for comedy, but to me it feels a bit arbitrary and unfair when it happens.
Luke: "they gratefully drop their ropes"
Mike hears: "they gratefully drop their robes" 👀
Luke: "you are knocked prone"
Mike hears: "you are not prone" 😂
I love Mike. 🤣
To be fair, I also heard “they gratefully drop their robes” 😂

That beautiful moment of Mike asking what's in his pockets and Luke genuinely at a loss for words for a couple seconds. Never change Mike
What has hobbitses got in its pockets???
It's always a good thing when players think of something that the DM did not.
In case of doubt: steal, steal, steal from the original adventuring party book. Player always has a ring in their pocketses.
I'm a little surprised that Luke didn't have an inventory for these characters ready to go. That was one of the first things I thought of when I realized what was happening here: just check your pockets.
@@DiZtheJedi
I'd assume that's because of the scenario, there's not much reason any of the characters would be holding onto an inventory here.
Luke having a conversation with himself as multiple fish-men had me in stitches!
What had me laughing was just how long, and completely in character it went on, and somehow, without words, conveyed an entire group's argument! XD
Scratch card alignment: Chaotic: Uses a die. Neutral: Just so happens to have a penknife. Lawful: Uses a coin like a normal being.

@@joshuacheung6518 Definitely incorrect. Monk != fighter.
@@Dyanosisi’m pretty sure what joshua means is that monks ARE fighters; in terms of what they do in combat. fighters and monks are both martial classes, making them combat classes! wizard and sorcerer are not, and would not be classified as “some kind of fighter.”
The letter at the end mentioned the prisoners were being taken to Kir Sabal.
This is an Aarikocra city in Chult (and plays a minor role in the Tomb of Annihilation campaign book)
*THEORY* Sully’s character may have amnesia, but isn’t a prisoner…he’s a guard!!!
My other theory with no evidence whatsoever is that Jane is the captain himself.
Guess what…I was totally right! 😆
The mention of Kir Sabal gave it away.
The call for "Honest Crab" t-shirts starts here
With the crab honestly smashing Tiddles into the beach?

"When I get killed, can I play as the pony?"
Imagine if Luke had taken out another scratch card character sheet for the pony haha
Alas, Luke did specify that the pony is intelligent.
strange that comments are not on the top. 21 likes and one person responded, best response so fare.
Tiddles getting 1-2’d by a crab and being a gust of wind away from death, and then immediately becoming the most perceptive person in the group is so funny to me 😭
Jane displaying the many uses of pocket knives (and actually just having one), Mike being crushed by an honest crab, the confident magic pony and Luke's fishtalk are my highlights. Well done, DM Luke! Can't wait for part 2!
I love just how amused Luke seemed to be by the spell's description of "unusually intelligent" 😂
I recall seeing a scratch-off DIY recipe in an RPG forum like ten years ago, and thinking "This is awesome!...I have no idea what to do with this." This is a ridiculous and interesting idea.
Ikr? This immediately made me want to pitch this to my D&D group. Actually, so did the Kobolds episode. I'm loving this "D&D, But..." series just as much as I've been loving Dom's "Monopoly, But..." series over on NRB.

Luke really has come into his own as a DM/GM. Your D&D games are great! Your Blades in the Dark games are magnificent! Johnny must be one proud mentor.

@@Sirfinchyyy The rules lawyer in me failed his death saves about half a campaign ago when I started playing more regularly and found just how many things are ignored for the sake of a good story and player experience. I have to respect it and I think it improves the experience for those playing which is all the justification you need but dear lord I could never run the game like this myself. The instinct to just start checking over character sheets to make sure they've done the maths right when the numbers sound wrong or "subtlely" hint at unused class abilities would be too much for me after maybe a week.
It's like if someone played a barbarian who never used their mechanical rages. Narratively you could have excellent story there and it simplifies the game for the player hugely but I just wouldn't expect it to be as fun mechanically and would feel obliged to remind the player every time initiative is rolled unless they explain they're doing it on purpose and at that point why not just play a fighter? (Sure, you could argue you can clearly have fun failing your rolls, as Egbert has hilariously demonstrated but you don't want to be failing all of them or ones you specialise in ideally as something like Merilwen failing nature rolls or Corazon failing with rogue skills would feel pretty bad if it happened consistently because your player isn't adding their bonuses.) Full respect to Luke, Johnny and the rest of the players for making it work but much like those who dance in heels, that's just not something I think I can do.

What are the allegations
The running gag on No rolls barred is that he fancies horses
Find Steed is not a "horse related spell". There are plenty of other animals that are steeds (and are much better than horses, in most cases).
@dyanosis bruh I'm just making a joke about a running gag for NRB
Luke's mastery of the Kuo-Toan language is so impressive. It's like he lived under the sea and among them all his life!
His Sahuagin needs a bit of work, though.
Oooh, I ran a one-shot exactly like this once, it was very fun! (although the first 20 minutes or so was everyone individually trying to cast Eldritch Blast, and asking if they have a tail)
Having followed oxbox/tra since 2016 and NRB since launch in 2020, this is my dream crossover. Sully should wow them!
:0 It has happened! I remember a social media post floating around suggesting this DnD idea - the DM knows every Player Character, but the players themselves have to figure it out. The scratch-card format is great in avoiding mistakes/mishearings!

I ran a similar amnesia mechanic for a friend’s surprise birthday party. Everyone else had normal character sheets, but the guest of honor started with a blank sheet. I cut the actual character sheet into pieces and handed them to the player as checks were made and the relevant statistics came into play.
This setup is cool, but plain old scissors will also work if you don’t the scratch off technology handy.

Love how "middle aged" immediately becomes "geriatric"
I believe Luke said something like 'upper middle age', or 'past middle aged', which to me means 45-50ish.
I was excited about Sully, but this is a proper NRB crossover, even throwing a twist on the game! Oh, I can't wait!
Jane carrying a pen knife is very prudence like
1:35 Luke's eyes getting bigger glaring at Mike made me lol
Mike's mood of the whole game after receiving 33 crab damage fearful of everything getting him is real
So hyped to see another collab between my two favourite UK channels!
I don't know why I find "we've forgotten our everything" as an explanation for amnesia so funny.
So far, I assume the Mike's catman is a rogue of somesort. Jane's human is a elemental monk. And Sullivan's Birdman is, likely a paladin of sometype.
Yeah, Inquisitive Rogue specifically.

Hah! Same!
Really hope that Oxventure would also play Call of Cthulu with Dom as the next crossover! These series of crossovers are awesomely fun!
I played with amnesia in Shadowrun once. The rest of the players were rescuing someone from a fortified hospital, that turned out to be me. GM had my character sheet, and every time I rolled something, he told me how many dice to roll. Turns out, I was a black guy who immediately started aggressively shouting in Italian (rough translation: "Who the ---- are you?". Ended the session by flawlessly piloting a hotwired SWAT helicopter purely on instinct.
For anyone confused by "how many dice to roll", Shadowrun is a game where you roll a number of d6s equivalent to your relevant skill or attribute. Each d6 is counted separately, not added together. Each d6 that rolls >= to the the target number is called a success, and multiple successes amplify an effect you're trying to achieve (usually making something you do faster, or dealing more damage). It's also worth noting that any 6s are rerolled and added to that die's previous total, as that's the only way to achieve some of the hard TNs.
Sully's face in the opening scene absolutely had me in stitches.
I once played a character with amnesia and the DM had my sheet and I had to keep notes and just try stuff to figure out what I could and couldn't do. I ended up being a doctor and the group's medic. Had to collect books and handle tools to regain memories and abilities. It was a load of fun. Just make sure everyone you play with and especially the DM is ok with the set up.

Sullivan is a perfect match to take part in oxventure shenanigans
Oh heck yeah, two-parter! I was looking at the run time near the end and wondering how they were going to resolve everything by then. Sullivan is great, looking forward to seeing more of him. Jane reactions make me smile, as usual. And go figure Mike would excel in a game that hinges on players not knowing anything about their character sheets ;)
I have some guesses as to what class everyone is playing...
Jane has ki points, so that's got to be Monk, presumably teaching/training in a temple based on the flashback? Sullivan is giving Paladin vibes with the smiting (and the "you feel vaguely guilty", lol), though interestingly the flashback indicates a street urchin sort of backstory. I'm floundering on Mike a little. I think Ranger, based on innately knowing which way is north, and some other stuff. I had briefly thought Rogue, but the fact that he's not familiar with lockpicking rules that out, as does his history in law. Based on some of his skills I have to wonder if he was some sort of investigator before he was a judge. And of course, I wonder what all their crimes were, and what order the colour tiers go in after blue (which is presumably the most dangerous).
Basically, riveting stuff, I'm super invested in finding out what led everyone to this point, good job DM Luke!
Edit: Due to some very good points below, I have been talked back around to Rogue for Mike : )
I briefly thought Ranger for Mike but ruled that out as Rangers are half casters, like Paladin, and Mike doesn't have any magic.
I'm leaning towards Rogue as they aren't forced to take lock picking, it's just common, and I'm, like, 95% sure there's an investigator rogue subclass
Plus, Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3 is the roguest rogue to ever rogue and he was a magistrate in his backstory so being involved in law previously isn't completely rule rogue out
@@mnoelis Oh that's a fair point, Mike seemed to have abilities rather than spells. And if there's an investigator subclass of rogue, that does make a lot of sense for the skills he has. Thanks for the info!
Ooh, I hadn't thought Monk for Jane. I was thinking maybe a fighter like she said, but I'm playing a Dragonborn Fighter in BG3 and I just leveled up when I chose my subclass I was choosing spells and had the option of getting burning hands. I think I turned it down, because Wyll also has burning hands. Sullivan I feel sure is a Paladin. I'm torn on Mike as well, but I'm leaning toward Rogue as well.
@@SolaScientiaI know for sure Monks use ki points because one of my friends plays a Monk in our DnD game, but it could be that other classes have that feature too and I'm just not familiar
The kuo-toa should have taken a bunch of psychic damage from trying to learn what a gift was.
I'm not surprised by Jane's pen knife. I'm also excited I'm not the only one who has one. I used mine well playing a murder mystery game (not the knife part).
Little know DnD fact: There is one type of tree in the world that can perform Lay On Hands...
The palm tree! 😂
I ran a game like this, but I kept a fully filled-in copy of the PC's sheets and just told them if they made the roll and they worked it out from when they passed or failed 🙂
Then as they continued, I triggered flashbacks to remember certain things like abilities, spells etc
I'm considering running an NPC with no memory for my players to interact with. I'm going to have a filled sheet so I know what stats I'm working with, but I'm leaving the name blank so I don't reveal anything too soon (and I want to see what they end up calling them)

Literally driving myself mildly insane trying to figure out where I know Jane's face from. Looked her up, realised that I have occasionally watched Outside XBox videos before, and her voice made such an impression on me that I remembered what she sounded like before hearing her speak in this video. Then got confused why they were introducing Sully being from a different channel, but not her. Then realised about ten minutes later that I recognised the other two guys too, and realised what the Ox in Oxventure stands for. What a rollercoaster!
I used to believe that it would be impossible for all my favorite British UA-camrs to know eachother. But they do. Love that Sullivan Beau Brown!
I never expected to open up a random video on D&D and immediately do a double take and say, "Is that Sullivan?!" I already know this is going to be a very good and very chaotic video.

Great to see you here, Sully!!
34:25 The Sully Horse bit never dies!!
Man sully will get to do so many impresions and dumb stuff in this. This is gonna be chaos. If we dont get his micheal caine ill be distraught
I love both of these channels but, as I mentioned in another comment, I was kind of disappointed that we didn't really get to see Sully shine here. It might just be a difference between the way the two groups play D&D - different table styles are a thing - or that the Oxventure crew are gamers/presenters more than actors, but it seemed like Mike and Jane spent 90% of the game speaking out-of-character to Luke rather than RP-ing with Sully and each other. And I can count on one hand how many times Jane even looked at Sully, let alone interacted with him or his character. So, despite the fact that he tried to start RP-ing with them a couple of times, M&J weren't really engaging with Sully much and that didn't give him much to bounce off of, resulting in him being way quieter and more sedate than fans of NRB and CN are used to seeing him. I hope the Oxventure gang relax into it and RP a little more in the next episode bc, otherwise, it feels like Sully's kind of wasted here. And that's a shame bc this version of the game is such a cool idea and has a lot of potential to be fun and funny.
On a hopeful note, it did feel like they were warming up a little toward the end. I noticed that, late in the episode, Mike and Jane started moving from an "I tell the others what I saw" style of gameplay to actually telling them (sort of) in-character, so maybe the lack of interaction was just a nerves thing and, as they get more comfortable with these new characters, the weird conceit, and/or playing with a guest who's known for his improv and comedy, they'll settle in and RP with him a bit more.
@johnplaysgames3120
Yeah that did come through to me too, but in their defense I do also feel that not having Andy or luke who are usually the proponents for chaos in a lot of oxventures as playable members hurt it a lil too. Hopefully, this is the start of nrb members coming on oxventure and not a one-off.
@@sartajhansi6127 Agreed, across the board. Especially that it might have been a different experience if Andy or Luke had been playing. They lean into the RP a lot more than Jane or Mike tend to (and, as you said, tend to bring the chaos, which is always fun).
And, just to be clear: I'm not attacking the Oxventure gang. As I said, different tables have different styles of play and there's nothing wrong with that. Also, the Oxventure folk are not really actors or anything so it's a different set of skills/strengths. It's just interesting to see how much the table he's sitting at changes the way Sully is able to play, and - for fans of the RP at Chaotic Neutral - a little disappointing that he didn't get to go off and get silly like we're used to seeing.
I definitely hope there's more crossover between the channels though (I always love seeing Ellen show up on NRB). And, tbh, I'd love to see Chaotic Neutral try some of these "D&D, But..." concepts as well bc I think they could have a lot of fun with them. The two channels are two great - if slightly different - tastes that have the potential to taste great together.
