I really feel for Fig's dad, kinda. Dude's life's falling apart, and he's trying to do his best, but it just keeps getting worse. Also he has beans on his shirt.
Technically Fabian got detention along with Gorgug for fighting in the hallway. Brennan most llkely forgot with all the tomfoolery and asinine fuckery and retconned it as getting detention for calling Daybreak out for taking a bribe.
@@deathbykonami5487 he got detention for both they mention that he also punched zach (i forget his characters name)when theyre all in detention talking about what they did
Just pointing out how well foreshadowed the detention event was, and how well Brennan got everyone together like that: Bill, the most important character in Fabian's life, told him to punch the strongest guy in school, so of course he would, and Gorgug happened to be the biggest one around. His father also bribed a gym teacher who was gonna welch on the deal, and Fabian with no subtlety would shout about it if he hadn't been gotten for the punch. Gorgug, a fledgling barbarian with anger issues as a central character conflict was punched in the gut, so of course he's gonna rage, it's self-defense. Odds are if he wasn't punched he'dve been targeted by the Rog, who physically attacks multiple party members across the first day. Adaine was told that stealing a book from a restricted section would be a huge benefit to her status and gain in wizardry, and with self-esteem issues like hers it was definitely in the cards to do. Then, she saw a restricted-section book completely unprotected, stole it, and promptly had a panic attack, a pre-established status condition. Riz was extremely focused on finding Penny Luckstone again after she disappeared while babysitting him, so when he stumbled onto a clue of course he'd do whatever it takes. There is no solution to getting info from the girl's changing room that doesn't lead to detention. Kristen wanted new perspectives and was riding the high concept of "religious girl reforms deliquents" straight into hell, so she joined willingly. Fig is an agent of chaos and was literally never going to be anywhere else, except maybe jail. Brennan set up situations perfectly tailored to get the players into detention (except Fig, who is the situation), without compromising player choice at all. It's a great stroke of DMing and is really subtle for how skilled it is.

"A hero is a violent wanderer, who enacts their will bloodily and with strange magics upon the world." _~Arthur Aguefort_ I am going to watch this entire show and there is nothing you can do to stop me
I’ve seen the shorts pop up for months and the clips pop up for years. I’m finally realizing why Brennan said that he both loved Emily but also said she was trying to kill him. She’s very good at derailing campaigns in total logical ways and Brennan is an ultimate rule of cool master.
One underrated thing that I genuinely appreciate is that, contrary to the majority of pop culture, Brennan portrays a very traditionally masculine character like Bill Seacaster that actually shows a great deal of affection and love towards his son
I love how everyone's intros were just that, a little intro but siobhan is already like "BITCH IMMA PUNCH MY SISTER AND CAST SOME SPELLS ITS ROLEPLAY TIME!!!"
@@ohowjuicy it's an Irish name, it usually has an fada(accent) on the a which elongates the vowel, and in Irish "bh" is pronounced like "v" and an "s" before a slender vowel makes an "sh" sound resulting in the name Siobhán sounding like "shov-awn" :)
I can FEEL the ‘Yes and’ energy that these guys have clearly had drilled into them and for D&D that’s PHENOMINAL! It makes things clearly go so much smoother x-x

GOD the Mr. Gibbons voice is SO spot on for a middle aged high school counselor trying to seem cool and connected with the youth Brennan was made for DMing
I’m extremely impressed at not only Brennan’s DM skills, but also the players skills in portraying their characters. Each of them fully commits, and you can see it in all their mannerisms and even in their postures. Just the way they sit screams their characters, even when their character isn’t in focus. Truly amazing to watch here, and I commend all of them!
In acting it’s the only way. You have to completely commit to the character to pull it off. Even when it’s only audio you’ll sound so much more convincing if you do the movements as it can come out in your performance. The idea that Gilear said unkind things when Fig's horns came in is hard to imagine. I can't remember any time he's overtly unkind in an episode other than the "demon" outburst in this one.
The knowledge that this beautiful child that you raised and took care of under the assumption that they are your flesh and blood just to learn the lady you wanted to have a family with cheated on you and that the child is someone else's can hurt in deep scarring ways I don't doubt he said some stuff that he regretted immediately once he processed what he said Don't doubt he hated himself cause it's clear that no matter what that's still his daughter that he adores and did his best to be there for
Looking back at his introduction now it makes me feel like a lot of his self hatred/lack of self esteem comes from that moment, and he’s so pathetic because he can’t forgive himself.

The sincerity in Brennan's performance when he did the old principle's speech had me in absolute tears. "...who enacts their will bloodily and with strange magicks upon the world."
Just realizing that at 1:05:30, Ragh is sort of admitting that the reason he goes so aggro on Riz and dunks him (and births the whole The Ball legend) is that he saw Dayne talking to a boy who wasn't him.
I love how Brennan’s reaction to high rolls is always “fuck yeah,” because he’s rooting for them and totally down to roll with their imaginations (no pun intended)
"Never forget, all of you, that the greatest magic of all... is Chronomancy, the magic of time." That is briljantly found. Comedic timing at its finest.

@@calconone7250 I think it’s partially live and partially post production. Like the introduction music to every new place and to create the ambiance is definitely live or in person, but the little sound effects are added in for extra comic relief or intrigue.
Its the DMS job to make sure the players don't throw away items they don't know the use for yet just like when Siobhan tried to give her orb away immediately
The reason you don't have to pick between Fantasy High and Critical Role is that this doesn't try to copy what they are doing. You can't do traditional D&D in a higher form than a full cast of voice actors and a dedicated and wildly creative DM. They figured out a formula that works, and works incredibly well. This doesn't try to be that. It has an AMAZING and unique setting with every character having such personal resonance and weight. Crit Role takes place in a sweeping adventure of epic proportion across lands and continents, but this is much more of a relatable community and family based adventure. Every piece fits together neatly and it really makes the town and the school come alive. In a post Critical Role world, this goes to show that you can still be incredible when you carve your own path and take a risk on something new. I absolutely love this. It's different, perfectly acted, and lovingly crafted. If you guys aren't careful, Dropout may just become a Dimension 20 subscription service as this show continues to rise in popularity above the rest of your content. :-)
I feel like they could play straight dramatic high fantasy - the DM and players are really every bit as good at the table (although maybe not a real-life found family like the CR cast is). But I do enjoy the various spins they put on campaigns.
eeehhh thats like saying "Starwars already did sci fi, so nothing should ever do sci fi!" they could do high fantasy and it would be different from roll 20 by merit of...the people all being different...and it would work.

Fabian getting detention for letting slip that the local authority is corrupt is some straight up real American Highschool shenanigans. Love it
Technically Fabian got detention along with Gorgug for fighting in the hallway. Brennan most llkely forgot with all the tomfoolery and asinine fuckery and retconned it as getting detention for calling Daybreak out for taking a bribe.
@@deathbykonami5487 he got detention for both they mention that he also punched zach (i forget his characters name)when theyre all in detention talking about what they did
Just pointing out how well foreshadowed the detention event was, and how well Brennan got everyone together like that:
Bill, the most important character in Fabian's life, told him to punch the strongest guy in school, so of course he would, and Gorgug happened to be the biggest one around.
