  • Are some of the segments on your display going out? Honda didn't use enough (or the right) solder on these displays meaning that over time, small hairline cracks occur in the joints causing the pins to lose connection.

    Did this yesterday, just reflowed the existing solder joints and it works perfectly now. The disassembly was easily the most challenging part in the whole process, really hated those clips in the dash.

    Thanks for that. Nice to see UA-cam recommended a video that's useful for a change. I assumed the LED segments were dying on my mum's 2010 Civic (1.4 i-Shift) as they did on my Blaupunkt Canberra display from the early '90s, only on the Honda some days the entire display would light up as normal and other times and after driving for long periods some of the segments were gone. I didn't think of pressing the surroundings to see if it made a difference as you did. When I have the car back and have enough time, I'll deal with the dry solder joints on those pins just as you did.

    I added solder on each pin.
    It was very hard, as my eyesight is average and my soldering skills are less than average.
    However, all done, and it works perfectly and no more missing segments.

    Great vid brother. This helped me a lot. I thought it would have been ribbon and not through pins like this. I am about to try this thanks to you. I am an experienced at soldering soo.... Not sure what flux you used but the stuff in the syringe works best. The pen and brush on stuff just not half as good simply. Using that alone would have been enough to reflow the existing solder effectively. Yeah sorry too say, much solder you used. Tbh I was surprised it worked, I thought you may have bridged a few near the middle there. Not critical as it seems to work great. Nice! A solderphile would suggest to remove the solder using copper braid and putting new on but not needed. Hot air would work the best if you lucky enough. Iron is fine tho. I would reccomend not adding solder for a first try at lest. Good stuff 👏🏻 👍🏻

    Hey mate, thanks for the video. I have just repaired it with re-heating (no-addition). Worked 2 weeks and then again missing segments. What do you suggest ? Should I add more solder with solder flux ? Since the area is so small, I am concertful with damaging the pins.

    • @VynZography
      @VynZography  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, yeah I really think more solder is needed. They used the bare minimum with this thing when making it! The small pins make it tricky but just take your time. You wont damage the pins but you can solder pins together, which is obviously not good. If you do this then suck the solder off and try again.
