Jesus, I stripped the heads on those two little screws under the stereo and basically gave up before finding your video and seeing that the screws were also bolts heads!!! 5 minutes later I had the stereo out, THANK YOU!!!!
You can avoid it by taking the small cover off next to the shifter, insert the key and pull the shifter back . Don't put the key in the ignition. I have never changed the radio on a Civic and found this video to be extremely helpful. THANKS !
You can get the bolts under the cubby hole with a regular 3/8 ratchet if you just kneel from the passenger side. Its not that hard. Just get it so its a bit loose then turn with your fingers. A 90 degree socket extension helps though.
Thank you watching your video today this morning at 7 AM. I was able to get my stereo to start playing audio again apparently my cables loose and I didn’t know how to take the assembly off thank you.
Great detailed explanation and video. Is this worth trying to check the antenna connector to the radio which is giving nothing but static? or is there another possible issue? thank you!
For the love of god remove the damn key from the ignition! You are providing power to all the electrical! Good way to fry something if you slip with your wrench.
Now that you have the radio removed. What is the process to change the bulbs for the ac/heat buttons. Almost all of them are out in on my civic. Thanks in advance. Great dyi video,
It is very similar. The buttons and lights for the AC control are either screwed on, or just snap-on (I can't remember) to the piece of the dash that you remove when you remove the radio. Then you can take the bulb with you to a Honda deal and they can sell you the part. Or you can buy a set on ebay as well. I might make a video of this later this summer...I need to replace one of my bulbs actually!
So what exactly is the issue that causes the intermittent display? I just purchased an 09 civic and it's an every day drive so I can't really take it out and send it anywhere for repair. Is it something I could fix or does it involve tearing the radio down and replacing resistors and stuff?
Looks like I'm going to give this a try. I do fear not being able to put it back together. Those plugs and wires you removed for the airbag light, hazard etc. Are they easy to tell where they go when you plug them back in? Are they all different shape or is this a chance for confusion?
funny how the beeping from the key being in the ignition doesn't seem to bother you but it bothers so many of the viewers. It would bother me if I was you. What's the point of having the key in the ignition? It's weird how it's on in some clips and off in others. WTF? I'm envious though, really. I wish sounds like that didn't annoy the living shit out of me. The video was still kinda informative muted.
What is the issue with unplugging the airbag sensor light with the ignition off? If I unplug it with the key on or turn the ignition back on with it unplugged what happens?
I need to remove the radio and the display above it from the dash panel. I am going to attempt to polish the display. Someone took some kind of chemical or maybe a dirty cloth and scratched it so bad you cannot see display except at night. How does the radio knobs come off?
Great video, always nice to see thorough explanations on tedious projects. Now to find an alternate way to remove the screw from beneath without a 90 degree ratchet driver like you have! LoL thanks for posting this!
I got a simple question and I know this is right , why do you want to have the ignition on and set to parking brake on , and shift to a lower gear , shouldn't you disconnect the battery and then do as fallowed in your video , to me it was kinda dum to have the ignition on while disconnecting all the connections with live electrical current going thru still ..... I think by doing that your messing the system up even more then what it is ...
There's really no difference in the power being stopped by turning the car off and disconnecting the cables. Old video adapters used to suffer from fatal shocks from doing this, but newer standards and grounds have changed how power is delivered.

Yeah you can avoid it by disconnecting the battery and not have the ignition on like these people making this video to me it's was dumb doing that in the first place
I have no idea I talked to the dealer they told me that it prob has one but I responded that I already checked , and they said that it could prob have a disconnection somewhere
So I can't drive my car for a week or so until my stereo comes back and I can plug it in so my Airbag doesn't blow up ? either way my car is down for a long time because radio /sadface
I have radio with USB port, and if I buy this car I have no way to install my own radio ! So,where you can plug in USB memory stick? Again you have to use what radio, what you my do not like after couple years! I would not buy a car where you have no chose ! And,if I my have this car,I would cut that panel, and place my own one in! Good video. Detailed instructions. I'll be installing my stereo and aftermarket stereo dash-kit this Friday. Wooo!!!
I love the helpful whispering. Thank you for the video, made life easier removing my dash to color match it to Alabaster Silver in my FG2.

Omg take out the F*#*$/@& key!!!!!
There was no pint on keeping the ignition on at the end he said take ignition off cuz of the air bag 🤣
You can’t take off the key if the car is in another gear😂😂😂
Thumbs up because you guys are bad asses.
Also, great video. Very instructional.
Straight fwd video, thanks

Man's a savage
Comments are so funny. Great DIY, thank you!
Take the key out of the ignition! That beeping is crazy inducing
Are you still repairing these? 2009 civic ex with premium sound
muchas grasias me sirvio de mucho su video

Did you ever figure this out?
yea im going to do it them its been a while since cd get stuck in there, so i cant play cd anymore! thanks for the post!
Thanks, I am making my radio Bluetooth compatible
hahah, me too. I am here for the same reason!! So annoying the old radio system!!
Do you need to unplug battery to avoid any issues with airbags
thank you so much for posting this it helped out and I got it out in 2 seconds!!! awesome!!!
can you separate the radio from the panel? i want to plasti dip the panel, but is way to much work to taped all the bottons and etc

I have the same problem can I just tie it in with the power wire?
Why do we need to leave the key on?
Why do you have the key in the ignition still?
I believe it's because you need to move the gear shift level to the bottom position.
Looks like I'm going to give this a try. I do fear not being able to put it back together. Those plugs and wires you removed for the airbag light, hazard etc. Are they easy to tell where they go when you plug them back in? Are they all different shape or is this a chance for confusion?
they only fit where they came out you cant get them crossed

Do you repair the stereos? How much for a refurbished one?
I need to remove the radio and the display above it from the dash panel. I am going to attempt to polish the display. Someone took some kind of chemical or maybe a dirty cloth and scratched it so bad you cannot see display except at night. How does the radio knobs come off?
Yea bro uhh u made it look so easy knowin damn well we dont have a 90 degree angle rachet
Do it yourself is free, paying anyone to do the job is more. Stereo shops to the dealership may charge $45-75. Whick is better?
Where is the repair part of vid?
Great video, always nice to see thorough explanations on tedious projects. Now to find an alternate way to remove the screw from beneath without a 90 degree ratchet driver like you have! LoL thanks for posting this!
Extension. Just less convenient

Because his civic is a auto automatic lol

I have to take out the left side of my dash just to remove the radio?
It's a good video but it would be better to listen to if the key wasn't in the ignition making the cars door open beeper going off.
What is the process to replacing the bulbs?

DjRuff617 Starting to have multiple lights for my ac go out.
This video will definitely be my guide to get to them.
Hey where could I get that tool at to take mine out
very very helpful. thank you
Does the stereo have a fuse?
You might want to put duct tape over the door open sensor decided in the annoying beep while working on the car dashboard. Thanks
or just take the key out of the fucking ignition since there's no point in having it in.
i have a question, when you pulled out that radio, do you have access to the aux port back side from there?? thanks in advance
there is a spare white socket in center of back of radio to plug in an aux adapter
I can't get those 2 screws out from under the radio...what tool did you use? My socket wrench extension is too long I think.
me too i can’t either
I can't get the left screw out 😩 I used a screw driver and the socket set. Can I go another way? the struggle is real just for a stuck cd.
lick all the knobs that should loosen it up!
Stupid question, but who do you send it to for repair?
The question was WHO do you send it to?
how do you fix the "no display" ?
Muchas gracias amigo!!!
what is that bipping noise??can be avoid it ??
Yeah you can avoid it by disconnecting the battery and not have the ignition on like these people making this video to me it's was dumb doing that in the first place
exactly. even if safety isn't a concern for him he could have just taken the goddamn key out of the ignition.
hello there! do you know how to unblock the radio frequencies for Europe? 104,4 99,8 etc hope its possible. . . Greetings!
Wanted to ask about those dash light does it have a fuse
I have no idea I talked to the dealer they told me that it prob has one but I responded that I already checked , and they said that it could prob have a disconnection somewhere
Kill that beeping sound.
Disconnect the battery
Honestly.
Well, its been 6 years. I wonder if he's turned it off yet
Thanks guys, good vid!
your video is unwatchable. take out the key, clamp the button, or disconnect the battery for gods sake
Its great!!
thanks!!
Does anyone know the make/model of the ratcheting tool?
What's the blue tool you use to remove the dash without scratching it?
They are called panel removal tools, tiny plastic crow bars essentially. Just Google them, and there will be plenty of options to search through.
Hard to hear you with the car😢
Key beeps really made video annoying further more why are electric components being unplugged with keys even in ignition
is it cheaper if u remove it ur self instead of having them do it?
So I can't drive my car for a week or so until my stereo comes back and I can plug it in so my Airbag doesn't blow up ? either way my car is down for a long time because radio /sadface
Remove the Air Bag portion from the front panel.
Dude. Take your key out next video or keep the car turned over. This is a freaking car channel.
Thank you
thanks, looks easy!!
why the hell did you leave the key in the ignition! Do you enjoy torturing yourself or just others?
I rather put in an aftermarket stereo unit than send it in ( :
8 mm screws,
Wtf with the beep sound >=(

Beep beep beep beep beep. 🤯
Beep beep. Beep
Omg take the key out

Blue Dragon my thought exactly except the door switch literally grounds through the bolt holding it in you just have to loosen it !!
