    Just bought the F version in that colour scheme , ye ye I know, people say it looks like a scooter blah blah. But I like it, good wind protection and feels really planted on the stock suspension. That engine though is a peach and for just under £9000 new, a bit of a bargain.

    Hey man what would you recommend between this a z1000 or an mt09? Thanks

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  3 роки тому +2

      Hard to say. Depends what is more important for you. The Z1000 has the stocky angular looks but is a bit cramped. The MT09 has bags of enjoyable torque but horrible fuelling. The Suzuki is smooth and powerful but a bit boring and behind on the gadgets. Ultimately I bought myself a CB1000R, so I chose none of them! You have to go based on what you want out of the bike and everybody is different.

      I ride a 2015 cbr600rr but want something a little more fun to pop wheelies on. I think the fz will bring me that joy, just doesn’t seem like a stable bike to me for the highway. I like the front look of the z1000. The gsxs looks ok but sounds like it’s a pretty powerful bike. I’ve thought about the cb bought it just looks so basic and small. Anyway thanks for the feedback man.

    The reason why you failed to get into another traction control setting was that your throttle shouldn't be open, not even slightly : you should *close* the throttle, only then will you be able to switch the traction control setting. So you MAY be riding, but then, it is still mandatory to close the throttle...
    Apart from that, I don't like this bike, I own one myself (model 2016). Even after swapping the ECU (under warranty, I hadn't had to pay anything), it is still too much on/off. In the mountains, in hairpin turns, this is quite tricky, as you can easily miscalculate a turn only because of some small bump in the road surface, resulting in a too eager bike acceleration response. Power and smoothness don't go hand in hand on this bike. My VFR800F handles a lot better on such terrain, as the latter doesn't force me to be ready with my rear brake, just in case the bike decides to go its own way...

    One of the bikes I would be interested in if I were to go for a litre inline four. An old review but is the low/mid-range better than your CB1000R?
    A point about these big Suzuki inline fours is that they rarely need the valves shimming, the tolerances are so large. My B-King never needed shimming, and I read on the B-King forum of someone who did his own servicing and had never needed to do a shim in 80,000 miles.
    To add to yesterday's comments, the lack of unnecessary technology on Suzukis attracts me to this bike. I miss my B-King's engine but not the weight.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 роки тому +1

      From what I remember, I wouldn't say it was much of a difference to the CB1000R. Perhaps slightly more grunt at the low end. Sounds like Suzuki have nailed it with servicing and reliability though!

    Did you happen to notice some really bad vibration at 80ish mph (130km/h). When I test rode one the vibration was horrendous on the highway (the demo loop included a few light twisties, a desolate backroad :), and a stretch of interstate highway). And this is coming from someone who regularly does long distances on a Versys 650, which as you know isn't the worlds smoothest bike.

      Andy Man Cam Me and a mate test rode for a few hours, the MT-09 & S750 and although I liked the MT with its 850cc and clutchless up shift (which was great fun when you wapped the throttle back and just banged up through the gears, 120mph in no time at all lol) I still loved the ride and handling of the S750, it’s very forgiving and although I agree with you that your knees are a little higher than some bikes, I got short legs at 30” so not so bad for me 👍 You should test ride the S750, nice machine, and of course gears are smooth and solid as it’s a Suzuki.

    • @AndyManCam

      Sure, that wouldn’t surprise me. The 1000 seemed to have a very solid and planted feel. Like a trusty stallion that won’t let you down! That coupled with lighter weight must make the S750 a great ride. I’ll just have to freshly oil the knees before I try one!

      I rode the GSX-S1000 and GSXR-1000R back to back. The S had decent but not great fueling, but OMFG does it vibrate like hell at highway speeds. The true blue Gixxer has a MUCH smoother motor with much better power delivery, I never thought a 200hp bike would be so easy to ride. I would kill for a naked bike with the current Gixxer motor. At 80mph absolutely everything on the GSX-S vibrated like hell, and I'm used to my Verys 650 which isn't the worlds smoothest bike at highway speeds.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 років тому

      I’d say yes and no mate. My legs were less cramped up on the MT, but the seat on the Z was far more forgiving. Smoother engine on the Z but more ‚natural‘ feeling Bar Position on the MT. I think the best way is to try and have a sit on each.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 5 років тому +2

      I've also ridden both bikes and also a Busa. The Busa's fueling is better than either of the other bikes. The MT-10 to me was a bit more comfortable, just a bit more relaxed riding position, the MT-10 also vibrates less, however the MT-10 has kinda jerky fueling in any mode and has a different powerband. the MT-10 comes on harder above 7000rpm, but the GSX-S comes on harder down low. The GSX-S vibrates BADLY at highway speeds and is turning some really high RPMs too (6000rpm @80mph, for comparison a stock Versys 650 is turning 6400rpm at the same speed with less than half the power, and considerably less vibration) the gearing on the GSX-S is also way too close, the MT-10 definitely was more relaxed at highway speeds and doesn't vibrate much.

      mrvwbug44 I have also ridden these bikes, never a busa but I do own a zx14r and a gsxs1000f. I 100% agree with your analysis. I might add that the pegs are lower on the gsxs when compared to the zx14r and the bar is higher. But not like a adventure bike. If compared to my V-strom 1000 it’s no where near as comfortable. It’s an in between bike in regards to comfort. But the vibration is pretty bad through the pegs at anything over 60mph like mentioned. The seat is really comfortable. The engine I absolutely love. The gears are way to close. The note the bike makes from the intake is addictive and you can definitely keep the stock exhaust and be happy. Low down torque is fantastic. When compared to the MT10 and MT09 which I test rode before deciding on the GSXS, I can say I’m still very happy with my decision. There’s no perfect bike hence why I have so many different types. I think if I had to do it again I would buy the gsxs750... that hurts to say.

    This bike is arguably the most modifiable motorcycle on the market. If you wanted, you could make a 1200cc bonkers machine out of it, that would give a lot of full-on superbikes a run for their money. It's the K5-K8 GSX-R1000 engine which has been modified about as much as the Hayabusa, with loads of big bore/stroker kits available, with well-proven track records. www.bikesales.com.au/editorial/details/suzuki-gsx-s1200-review-58167/

      @@whitegoodman7465 Well I know that. And a Hayabusa wouldn't perform anywhere as well as a tricked out liter naked bike, with 205 wheel HP, and 104 ft-lb wheel torque, now would it? Those numbers would obliterate all the naked bikes on the market, would leave all superbikes in the dust until about 140 mph, and the bike would still handle like a stock GSX-S, or better with suspension upgrades. Read the article, it's pretty interesting. It's not for everyone obviously and the reason the guy built it? Because he could. That K5-K8 engine is one of the very best for doing this.

      For the fz1 one thing to look at is a reflash of the ecu makes a world of different in torque. I barely go above 5k now. But with newer technology I bet it is amazing fuel delivery.

      Absolutely! I hope you’re proud of yourself!! 😜. Thing is that in times where money and time is tighter than ever, people can’t have a bike for the daily use and a pocket rocket for Sunday blasts. Nakeds are just better all-rounders (I think). Ah the good old "new tyre" myth

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  4 роки тому +1

      Ah, the good old ‚good old new tyre myth‘ myth. Regardless of whether release agents, preservatives or whatever are used or not, the surface of a freshly molded tyre is smooth and shiny. It’s a result of the molding process. Mold shiny=tyre shiny. Therefore the chemical and physical grip will be slightly reduced until the surface is scuffed off. Ultimately, there is NOTHING wrong with taking it easy for the first ride on new tyres, at the very least to give you a chance to get used to the different handling characteristics. It baffles me as to why armchair warriors want to dispel this entirely harmless and good sense practice, simply to show how ‚clever‘ they are. As long as EVERY single tyre fitter that I’ve encountered continues to tell me to take it easy to begin with, then i think I’ll just keep doing it. You want to throw your bike down the road, go for it. But don’t encourage others to do the same.

    • @akent46
      @akent46 4 роки тому +2

      @@AndyManCam That's a nice way of expressing congruency on the matter. As long as a brand new tyre is warm, it will have traction and adequate deformation for it's contact geometry as expected out of a slightly scrubbed tyre.
