This engine is still to be used in 2021 which is why I am considering buying one. Long stroke does it for me. I used to own a GSX1300BK [B-King], and I loved it, but it weighed 265 kg. This is 209 kg. It even sounds like my B-King. I know what you mean about how it feels; a bit metallic. I like that. The brakes on this bike have been upgraded since your test ride.

To thisz day only thing I have ever rode faster then a 2001 ZX900RR is the liter bikes from that era before the epa gutted the! God they was fast amazing my 2001 900CC is faster then my new 2016 GSX-S1000A and if anything the Suzuki is tuned up, newer, and healthier! But they are two different kinds of bikes! Honestly I would love to have one of those set up like the Suzuki that would be amazing just keep the aero!
Great vid man, great mic setup as well! What do you use? Your impressions are spot on. Another great thing about this bike is it seems to be really easy to work on/do maintenance. It handles great, breaks are strong but not crazy initially. A PCV will clear up all the unevenness of the engine at low RPMS. The power is insane, the looks are fantastic, the engine sounds like straight motorsport porn; and I don't notice much, if any vibrations. It also feels much lighter than the 460lb wet weight, especially pushing it around the garage/parking. Seat height is great for shorter riders too. This bike by far is the best bang-for-your-buck out there; period.

Always be on alert for, pets, kids, livestock, animals large and small, people, car doors that fling open at the last second, left hand turns by near blind car/ truck drivers, road debris hidden from view by car ahead, random lane changers that live only in their small world, oil spills, etc. Over 40 years of riding many types, styles makes of motor cycles has thought me a thing or two of the hazards out there, ride like a pilot their trying to shoot down is a good tact. I still have fun riding but always try to judge the situation and temper exuberant throttle control with a bit of realization that your not on a race track but rather public roads. One of my bikes is a 1991 GSX 1100 G that still looks and operates as new. It is rated at a bit over 100 HP. as compared to your bikes 143 H.P.
I like it as I do many naked bikes. I think this is the best color. Great gearing. Easy to ride. Above all I simply had a lot of fun riding it. With the weather down under, naked is great.
I have this same bike I traded my 2011 gsxr1000 I love it, if your use to a sport bike I would suggest a wind screen for some protection. but it's one he'll of a machine, very comfortable
Have to agree...bought my 16 in the all gun metal gray 3 days ago and it has the M4 exhaust on it...got a get the ECU flashed to get that under control and it's a beast. Kind off like jumping on the back of a 800 lb gorilla and jamming a red hot poker up it's a$$….better hang on cuz it's gone.
Have to update my own comment....got the ECU flashed and now the 800 lb gorilla is now a 1,000 lb gorilla now with the ECU flash she is just a beast that is so nice to ride....can't go wrong with this this type of bike. A super bike with a sit up stance with this much power is the best bike I've ever twisted on. Put on a 46 tooth rear with a ECU flash and you don't need anything else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to mention, with a full system and ECU flash, it goes from about 138 to 154 WHP. Brakes bed in over time. If that bike doesn't have at least 300-500 miles on the clock, the brakes aren't going to feel like they are designed to feel.
First time on 1000 i'd have TC on mode 3 too. I've had my 2018 Z for a few weeks and use mode 3 rain or shine. The TC lights frequently and front always stays on the ground and therefore feel safer pushing a bit harder. It lane splits\filters better than my sv650x, not because they weigh roughly the same but the upgraded 2018 brake lines have the brembos (straight off the R along with swing arm) stopping very quickly at those between cars speeds. You summed it up with fun (even with anti-wheelie TC on), easy to ride and comfortable. Yes price point as well. Thanks for review. PS. I'll bang on about the engine too. From stand still this will beat the R before it eventually hauls in the S's low\mid range torque vs the higher rpm R.
It’s a great bike. But it won’t beat the r anywhere in performance. I have a gsx s1000f and a k5 gsxr 1000. The r is around 35kg lighter and has about 35 extra bhp. Because of the weight difference even the low rpm torque is more noticeable on the r.
I've bought a 2018 one and it IS snatchy, even when setting the highest traction control level. Feathering of the clutch is required for a smooth ride. Also very sensitive to the slightest throttle roll off, almost feels like you're totally shutting off even though you're only very slightly doing so. Test rode a 2016 version before buying mine and never noticed any of it on that one. Maybe I'd already made my mind up to buy one before test riding so was blind to its faults. One thing's for sure, I'm getting a Power Commander fitted to mine as soon as it's run in.

I'd say go for it. I went from a 600 to the S1000 and once you get used to the extra power and stronger engine braking there is no stopping you. As the video correctly says, this category is awesome for road riding. All the power you need plus comfort in a compact package.

I have this exact same bike color and all and i love it thing is fast as a cheetah on cocaine! Mine has been turned up I’m down to 435lbs and 151hp and 81ft lbs of torque it moves out quick! No it’s not the fastest thing out there but it’s not meant to be it’s a red light killer!
I would love to try the MT10 - for some reason that one really appeals to me personally. Fingers crossed I get the chance at some stage. But yeah definitely try the GSX - as I said, I reckon it's a bargain for the quality and performance you get. Amazing bike.
that's a tricky one! the Suzuki is a bit dearer (here in Australia at least), a lot more powerful, and a bit heavier. But the MT09 is great on a b-road, great in traffic, and the engine has bags of character. Unless I really wanted the extra power, I'd probably choose the MT09 and save some cash.
Some tough choices at this end of the market. In the AU$19-24k bracket there are a lot of bikes that are great - S1000R, GSX-S100, 765RS, Speed Triple...
I actually think the GSX-S1000 is a bargain in this company! It doesn't have the fancy dash or all the electronics, but it's plenty fast and it's only ~$16k
Torn between this and Kaw Z900. What you think? I have had an older KZ1000 for years. Heck, I might just fix it up and start over with that. I would be partial to the Z900 obviously but I like the Idea of more horsepower. Does the GSXS1000 really feel much stronger? Seems to be rated at about 20 more horsepower?
For anyone reading this, I will say power is not the only thing considered here for me. But it is the most appealing question I have first off. I'm 6'1" and about 210lbs. I ride in a wide variety of situations but usually not up for really long trips. Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated. Thank you much!
one big reason why I bought this one is the price, you buy this put on a after market exhaust, power commander your at the same price as the z1000. the z1000 has no traction control nor abs

Hi Glen - the video you see is the only time I've ridden one, so not sure about the TC or the gas mileage. As for the throttle, I think people's complaint is exaggerated - I didn't think it was a problem.

Im getting into riding as soon as i can afford to, because of an injury i need to be in a more upright position so that rules out supersports....Ive sat on a CBR500R +650F and i found both very comfortable. I love the look of naked bikes and i know i could manage the riding position because its more upright but i think id feel a bit too exposed without a fairing and windshield. whats the wind buffeting like??
at town speeds you literally don't even notice the wind! Fairings and a screen help if you're really pushing but at normal (i.e. legal) road speeds, you'll be fine. good luck with your search mate.
The new version has a slipper clutch. A bit more power. The jerky throttle should be a bit better now. The brake lines should be better and the levers are blackened.
nice review, my problem with Suzuki bikes is they look a bit too generic for me. I like my motorbikes to have a bit of character and Suzuki seem to go out of their way to avoid doing that.
heh yeah, styling is a very personal thing and you've gotta find something you enjoy looking at too right? I personally think this is a great looking bike, especially in their trademark blue.
good review, ive just bought the 2017 model here in uk and as it has to meet euro4 standards they have lean fuelled it and its snatchy as hell on the throttle, even suzuki tech have said it maybe worse than 2016 s they have sealed off adjusting the throttle position sensor, so at moment without power commander or booster plug i'm screwed... now why didnt i buy the speed triple ... smooth as butter it was..love the gsxs but can be a bitch and almost dangerous roll back on throttle on a bend
totally agree, i should have known better than to trust another opinion. The Gsxs has now gone back, bought a speed triple 2017, amazing bike, and i seem to have a bike buying bug as just bought one of the last Daytona 675R, Triumph just seem to be getting it right, for me anyway.

Do some research kid. The K5 mill from the K5 GSX-R1000 is the most venerable engine ever produced by Suzuki. Different cams and timing for this GSX-S. You stumbled around in your intro describing it.
+WeNeedASaga I'd like a GSX-S1000 if I can manage to finance another new bike one day, saw the faired ones when I went and picked up my non LAMS 2017 SV650, I tried to get my father to buy one at the start of the year when he was looking to buy another bike as he's coming up to retirement age and never had a brand new one and given its upright sitting position which takes pressure off the wrist and that nakeds are more about bottom and mid range power as opposed to top end like the GSX-R750 he was looking at which I didn't feel comfortable with him buying as the most powerful bike he has owned is a 1999 GSF1200 Bandit and I thought the GSXR he'd wind up hurt or dead, fortunately he got off that buzz of wanting a really fast and new bike as he was looking at Hayabusas too.
Best sounding stock exhaust out of all in it's class to date IMHO. Great looking bike too. I can't wait to get one, but the "F" model. Cheers!

Yes, first gear does 138 km/h so hard to enjoy on the road unless you short shift.

At that price, the gsx-r1000 is hard to refuse.

Kick the TC up to 1. I`ve never tried mine with TC "off",not yet anyway. But from 2 to 1 i think its a big difference in the bite of the bike
I think you've got it on tc3 take that off and you'll feel the wheel rise alright tc3 is the slowest setting at least tc1 is required

Be careful with the GSXS1000 then - it's proper fast!
