It's actually the first house mentioned in the entire series! The POV for AGOT's prologue, Will, was caught poaching by Mallister men and sent to the wall.
The GOAT minor house. My absolute faves. Jason and Denys Mallister are badasses and good dudes. Their colours are dope: silver and indigo, so their sigil and their armour looks sick (gotta love the winged helms). Patrek is somewhat likable. ''Above the rest'', even their words have the perfect balance of arrogance and truth.
@@Al-ji4gd totally agree. And Seagard being this massive fortress built on the shoreline. The siege during the Greyjoy rebellion is reminiscent of the battle of Helm’s Deep in LOTR. It’s brilliant.
According to the cover of book 9 the German version of the ASOIAF series (all five books are split in half), the words of House Connington are: „A fierce enemy, a loyal friend“ (or something along that as of course it’s in German not in English)
To my mind, one of the most fascinating houses nobody talks about is House Fowler of Dorne. What makes them so consequential in the current timeline is what they could know about the events at the Tower of Joy. They control the Prince's Pass, which the TOJ is located in. You can't tell me that the crown prince and three members of the kingsguard could commandeer one of the Fowler's properties during a time of war for months on end and the Lord of the house knows nothing about it. In any case, I think they'd be a fun video for you Quinn. Nice video.
Edit: i just can't wait to see the casting for the play! Lyanna would be a terrific role and hopefully is a breakout for some talented performer I know it's something of a meme/playful banter to say otherwise but I earnestly love these Connington vids. There are many ideas, people and locations that are set up and expanded on in the series, and I think you do a great job going so in depth with them!
Slight correction, it isn't Jon Arryn's brother Connington kills but rather his heir, Denys. Denys was a distant relation who gained a claim to the Vale as he married Jon's niece, and only really became heir when Elbert, Jon's nephew, was killed by Aerys when he rode with Brandon Stark to King's Landing.
If you're looking for more obscure houses to deep-dive into, I'd be interested in hearing about the Bracken-Blackwood feud or some of the weirder Ironborn houses like the Farwynds (who first appeared in Dragon Magazine, incidentally). Either that or a script treatment for a sitcom about JonCon called Everybody Loves Rhaegar.
Do a video on the lore, future & theories of House Florent, the foxes of the Reach, rival to the Tyrells of Highgarden & King Stannis's strongest supporters.
For some reason I really like House Dondarrion. I just think their sigil is cool, you know, the purple forked lightning. And the fact the House started from a messenger being saved by a bolt of lightning. Of course, Beric being such an interesting character does help too. I saw someone theorise (I don’t think their house words are confirmed?) the Dondarrion house words could be something like, “Strike Them Down” which is just rad as hell. My favourite House words are “We Do Not Sow” but I’m not too fond of House Greyjoy lol. I have to admit you’ve made me like House Connington a lot more. The Griffin sigil goes unfathomably hard.
Knowing how GRRM feels about 6 limbs. Are griffins the only mythological animal in the story? Suggestion of houses to cover next: House Tarth, Dayne or Florent
A brilliant video, I love the highlighting of lesser houses. Speaking of which, I find it strange that so many of the Northern houses are facing extreme succession crises as of ADWD. One of these houses, House Dustin is one we should be seeing more of in Season 3. But I would love to see you highlight House Dustin, House Hornwood and other northern houses and what their futures could hold.
Griff-In it to Griff-Win it is the best pun and it needs to be the Connington Words. Connington’s do have one of the coolest sigils and I’m super surprised they haven’t appeared given it’s one of GRRM’s favourite, I’ve always assumed there was originally only one Griffin then a second son become Lord or King using the two griffins and he was so impressive everyone after him was like ‘Yeah this needs to be our sigil.’ Some Houses you could do are Beesbury 🐝, Crakehall 🐗, Blackwood 🐦⬛🌲 or Marbrand 🔥🌳. Edit: 2:40 where did you find the Great Houses Wheel, it looks amazing! 6:26 and the Black and White Griffin!
I like the House Reed, the House of the swamp of the North Sounds interesting being the only place in Westeros full of water cocodriles and trees because of the War of the Children and men Plus the importancy TWICE with the Starks, first with Lyanna Stark and later with Brann You should do a video about them, is very short and informative
House Crabb, Harlaw, Farwynd, and Massey would be interesting to hear about. Of course I could go on but those are a few of my personal favorites that don't get much attention.
“Oh sir Connington, as you now establish a house I’m sure it shall be remembered as a great one. What do you want your house words to be” “Well mine is a family that believes in Strength, Duty an- OH MY FUCKING GOD IS THAT A GRIFFIN? IT IS? JESUS CHRIST ITS A GRIFFIN! A GRIFFIN! WHAT IS THAT DOING HERE” “ah excellent words my Lord”
I’ll say it Quinn. I think it is absolutely possible we see some Connington knights at some point in HOTD, probably at the Kingsroad if at all. Also great video as always.
Cover House Royce. They are the most underrated House and the first we meet with Waymar in the Prologue. They descend from the first men have married the Starks and Targaryens. Are connected with Runes that supposedly protect them and their house words are "We Remember". I believe they are referring to the Long Night I think they know the white walkers are real and that is why Waymar Royce was so interested in what Will saw. I think the Runes also have to do with the Others or Wights. We also see Bronze Yohn as a great warrior defeating both Ned Stark and Rodrik Cassel. They are the most underrated house imo.
I would love to see something about House Bulwer of Blackcrown. Not a lot on them, but a fun house to maybe do in a video with 3 or 4 other houses which seem interesting but don't have a ton of info on. Like House Wyl of Wyl.
Bros word of the day really be “insofar”. Counted at least 13 times between the last two streams and this video. Don’t think I’ve said it 13 times in my life
I especially love house Connington because the city where I live in has had a griffon as its symbol since the medieval period and its official heraldry even today is a red shield with a white griffon on it. I think I live in Griffin's Roost
I watched the show religiously, and after season 8 i felt so frustrated and let down. Your videos got me started on the books and ill be starting Feast soon. Keep up the great work! 👍
I was always interested in House Tollett, especially why some of their family have fallen so low (I.e. Dolorous Edds upbringing). Namewise my favourite might actually be House Hogg of Sow‘s Horn. And I also love House Grandison, because it seems like every member we hear of has something to do with being sleepy just as the lion on their sigil ^^
9:48 I think Jon Connington's survival has more to do with the fact that he ran away while the other guys Robert killed stood their ground and fought to the end.
The german book series actually feature a house sigil and the words on the cover and for house connigton it is: a grim fiend a loyal friend. I dont know if the book publisher made that up or if they asked grrm
In the german version of ADW the cover is the sigil of house Connington and the words of the house are: "a loyal friend, a fierce enemy"; every cover in the german version has a sigil of one of the big houses and their words on it
I can easily see Ronnet switching sides to Jon and Aegon. If Aegon wins the Conningtons will be lords again with a lot of power. Plus Jon's legal heir is actually Ronnet since he doesn't have children, so I think he can easily talk Ronnet into joining him and becoming a lord of House Connington fully restored to their former power and maybe even more. As for Storm's End and the lord paramouncy, Varys might just kidnap Edric Storm and make him a puppet lord of the Stormlands to keep the Stormlords happy.
I'd love to see a video on the Waynwoods! I don't really know why, but this was the House that came to mind. Harry the Heir was raised by Lady Waynwood (the Hardyngs are their bannerman), and Littlefinger does call special attention to Lady Anya, who may soon be dead... Again, not much is known-but I'm excited to see your research skills in full force, Quinn!
I’d love to hear more about house Celtigar. While we might learn more abt them in HotD, as of now they’re the only Valyrian house we really know next to nothing about. Like, do they still have silver hair and purple eyes? Did they do inter-familial marriages? Are they really as rich as they make it seem? Could they have been dragonriders if they ever married into house Targ?

I'm always going to befuddled that ASOIAF isn't animated. It's literally the only medium that could handle all these characters with financial ease
My thoughts exactly
animation itself is expensive, though.
