The video of him singing this on his unplugged album, believe it was MTV is much better. Still very sad song about losing his son falling out of a high rise apartment building to his death.
Oh boy, this song is so much better than in this video, he's much older here, you can hardly hear his voice. As everyone will be telling you, it's about his young son who died in a terrible accident.
From what I remember he fell out of a window from his mother’s penthouse apartment and then through the glass roof of another high rise. His mother had told the story. Clapton had finally decided he wanted to be a part of his son’s life, be a father for him.
Etic Clapton is an icon. This song is very near and dear to his heart. He wrote it about his son who fell out of a 3rd floor window and died. It is a very touching tribute to his son. Eric Clapton is an awesome guitar player as well as a singer and song writer Check out the original version, it is much better. Love your reaction!
What can I say that hasn’t already been said. This beautiful, sad song was born out of a terrible tragedy. Eric’s young Son Connor falling out of a multi-storey building, I think he was just 5 years old!😢RIP Connor❤
Agreed. It actually sounds like reggae, with surprisingly little alteration. Definitely more upbeat. My guess is that at some point he didn’t want to play it the original way. It must be hard to bare your soul to complete strangers at every concert when the song is so intensely personal and gut wrenching. It’s a shame the vocals weren’t easier to hear.
Eric gave the Gibb brothers some advice that they credit to saving their career. He told them to go to Miami Florida to record in the studio he just had success in and it worked. They became huge in America when they weren't getting any hits in Great Britain.
This song was created from what happened in his life. A song suggestion which is from a similar place from Stevie Ray Vaughn is "Life By The Drop". Personal experience is where our most honest stories come from. Peace 💚
Look up this tragic story about his son Connor who was 4 years old and fell out of a 53 stories high window. So very sad. His son was so beautiful. 😢😢😢
He, for some reason, did this version with a bit of a reggae flavor, but that's not the normal cadence of this song which he wrote about the tragic death of his young son.
This is just a weird version of the song. The original version is much better in my opinion. This song is sad and it sounds weird that they're trying to make it sound happier. I imagine it would be hard to sing this song in its original sad way all the time (since it's about his son's death) but that's how I feel it should be.
I think he has to do this song in a faster reggae style because it is a difficult song to sing every night given that it is about the death of his son. I got to see him in concert a few years ago and he did it in a fast style like this then also.
I really wish you had known what the song was about before your comments, but many prefer to react without knowing the details. Although not my favorite version, I do like the melody with the reggae flair.
I see what you mean about it sounding like reggae. That’s not how most of us know the song. Some have suggested you watch the official video. The audio on that is the original version. The video portion confuses some people because it’s scenes from a movie. Clapton had already agreed to write a song for the movie before his son’s horrific death. (Connor was only four years old.) The movie wasn’t a big success. I never saw it. If you decide to watch the music video I would recommend you ignore the video and focus on the audio.
Nothing fun about his song, Eric wrote it with someone else, I forgot who, after his 4 year old song fell from a window in a high rise apartment building in New York.
It's still a beautiful song, but I don't like this particular groove as much as the original. That version breathes more. (True, I'd rather hear the original without having to watch the video that most reaction channels opt for, and then get distracted by.) But there's a gentleness in the original version that's missing in this one. (But then again, how can I criticize this brilliant man? He wrote the song, he can obviously perform it anyway he wishes.)
The reggae version is bad and does not suit the depth of the lyrics. The most accurate version is the live version taken from the MTV Unplugged show. You should do a reaction video again but this time from this other version. Guaranteed emotion. Thanks.
Hear the studio version, it’s what we expect when we listen to this.

I'll never forget hearing what happened to little Connor on the news. Broke my heart.
Such a sad song. Heartbreaking written for his very young who tragically fell to his death. 😢
Such a sad an beautiful song. My favourite Clapton song is Wonderful tonight, definitely worth a listen.

If I remember right... didn't Clapton's son fall out of a window?
@@rridderbusch518 fell from a hotel balcony if i am correct 10 floors or more high. Terrible tragedy son was so young.
@@RuthBair-ht1fj Thanks, Ruth!

@@BridgetBailey47 you are right it was a window from 53rd floor. So very sad.

@anitawright7169 Conor fell from a 53rd floor window. I agree, the original just has a more intimate heartfelt plea to it.
You can find the story about Connor told by his mother here on UA-cam. It's absolutely heartbreaking.

This particular performance isn't as sad as the main one. It's as though he's trying to make it more upbeat.

Yes, the official video is much better.
Maybe the first live unplugged version. The official video, tied to a movie no one cared about, is a bit meh.
You should listen to Dolly Parton just when I needed you most.
